Ron Lambert
Hooray, we surpassed the Mormons! Next we need to overtake the JW's! We're number five, but we try harder! Of course, by stipulating that religions can only be included in the list if their membership is greater outside of their "core country," we leave out Shiite Islam, as well as Baptists, Methodists, Hindus, and Buddhists. In terms of absolute size of membership, SDAs are much further down the list than fifth place. But at least we are not quite so small a minority, any more. Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted May 11, 2005 Moderators Share Posted May 11, 2005 Re: Baptists, Hindus, and Buddhists Hinduism is a major religion, that consists of many different sects. The question did not ask about religions. People who work in the field tell us that there are anywhere from 9 to 12 major religions. Sometimes people will add a few additonal regional ones. The question asked about religions bodies. So, with that focus, one would have to consider the individual groups of Hindus, not Hinduism as a whole. NOTE: Christianity is a major religion. The listing clearly listed sects within Christianity. Buddhism: The statement above applies here. Baptists: They also are split into different groups. Ron Lambert
What about Lutherans? Their core country should be Germany, but there are large Lutheran bodies in the U.S., such as Missouri Synod, etc. And didn't the Lutherans recently reunite at least in an association? Stan
Not to sure Lutherans are everywhere... I do not remember seeing them in Africa or the South Pacific. That does not mean they are there. Another problem is there are so many Lutheran groups, thing something like 39, many which do not talk with each other for what ever reason. Planey
Quote: Not too sure Lutherans are everywhere... I do not remember seeing them in Africa or the South Pacific. They are certainly very active in Papua New Guinea and are in fact one of the major denominations there (along with Catholics and Seventh Day Adventists and yes there is a difference between those two ) Not sure about the rest of the Pacific, though.
