FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Marjorie Mitchell of Fairfield died May 12. She was 92.

Born Marjorie Ernestine Woods on Dec 20, 1919 in Lyndonville, Vt., she was the third child of Garfield and Ernestine McNeal Woods.

Mitchell earned a licensed vocational nursing degree in 1941 and practiced at the New England Sanitarium.

In 1945, she married Carl Mitchell. Sewing, knitting and crocheting were some of her hobbies. She also liked walking along the beach, exercising and hiking.

Mitchell was a member of Brooklawn Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Bridgeport since 1960, where she volunteered with the children's divisions. She was most recently a resident of Maplewood Assisted Living in Orange, Conn.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy Helm and Ardice Bednarczyk; two sons, Gary Mitchell and David Mitchell; a sister, Cleone Giedd; a brother, Berton Woods; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband; a brother, Kenneth Woods; and a sister, Doris Woods.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m., directly at Brooklawn Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Burial will follow at Lawncroft Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Ministries of the Brooklawn Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Spear-Miller Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
