CoAspen
Quote: So where is the Biblical precedent for God's ministers receiving a salary? It wasn't Christ's example. Is there anything in your daily life that mimics the times that Christ lived in? You said it, if Christ didn't do it we shouldn't either....by implication. Who wants to travel that road? Why is it that some would like to set the standards of living life for others, based on what they, themselves, may do or not do?
Moderators lazarus Posted November 15, 2012 Moderators Share Posted November 15, 2012 Both good questions by Gerry & Lazarus: What would a priest do with a 200K salary, or what does anyone do with a salary? Was Christ on a salary? No. Were the disciples on salary? No. Or Abraham, Moses, Ezekiel or Paul? No. Were their needs met - yes, God provided all, but not with a salary. So where is the Biblical precedent for God's ministers receiving a salary? It wasn't Christ's example. God the Father did not magically produce food every time Jesus and disciples had to eat. They live as a result of the giving of those who opened their hearts. The tithing system supported the "ministry" in the OT. It's the same today pastors are paid by giving from the members. Its systematized because the church has 1000's of full time disciples not 12. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.
