By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near. {5T 451.1}

I was so sad to hear this. Besides being in Desert Shield and Storm, he was our 9th infantry commander when I was at Ft. Lewis. I'd run into him from time to time and he always took time to chat. When he first came we were having a number of change of commands and they were all long days with standing out in the field in formation through long speaches, different speakers plus the long outgoing and incoming commander's speeches. However when it was his turn he started out with "I remember hateing to stand out there for the long speeches" and gave a very short speech. Also we worked 10 hour days, and he decided to make Thursdays a 9 hour day. He would show up at different buildings at the quitting time and if it was not empty he would go in and start turning off the lights and shutting down the computers on people. He was very serious about that extra hour off. There were a couple times in the field where he would ride along with the Chaplain and I'd be driving and he would visit with us. and there was a month when my Chaplain was on leave so I worked at the Division Chaplain's office that month and would need to deliver reports to him or he'd come down and chat with us. He will be missed.
