joeb
I'm a little more than 1/2 way through reading this book and I have to recommend it. Deitrich Bonhoeffer was an extraordinary man, and someone who really "got" what it is to be a Christian. When taking into account of the religious environment he came out of it is nothing short of a miracle that he came to understand that Christianity without a relationship with God, and total committment to God, is not Christianity. This is a complex book about a complex, brilliant, dedicated Christian man wanting to lead his people out of ignorance about what Christianity and the Christian church is, what it's mission is in the world, and how every Christian needs a daily relationship with God. It's a fascinating read and well worth the time it takes to read it. The man's dedication to God is an inspiration to me. His thoughts on how we cannot "grasp" God, but that God "grasps" us, and that there are some of us who just can't get away from God, really strike a chord in my heart.
