There are two separate issues that are often considered together, and considering them together causes unhelpful confusion.

One is the genetically modified organisms themselves, and the other is the business practices and agricultural practices associated with them.

In general, I think GMOs are safe, though each needs to be evaluated on its merits. They certainly have the potential to increase yields and feed the hungry.

Monsanto in particular but a number of the big companies producing them have some very poor and extortionate business processes, support monocultures and focus on things like pesticide resistance for genetic modifications. (This last leads to over-use of pesticides, which is the danger to health, rather than the GMO itself.)

Truth is important

My wife has been doing lots of research on GMOs and from what she has gathered, GMO is scary stuff.

It's kind odd that communist like China or former communist countries are the ones not accepting Monsanto. But if we examine the Jesuits, and the Vatican, they will poignantly state that their peferred government is communism. If we draw this to its logical conlusion, it will make communism a bit more palatable when the powers that be want to impose the NWO. In having such countries plead the reason for imposing this government world wide it will be easier to do so when 'fear' reaches its pinnacle in the masses.

Putin is controlled. He is worth billions and I am sure he is compensated for reasons unknown. I am sure that countries which do not use Monsanto do so for a reason. My theory is, is that it provides a plausable denialbility in order show that some countries were working in the "best" interest of the world. Communistic or heavily controlled countries have the advantge of controlling information. As such, they can more easily hide 'true' intentions as opposed to a 'free society', ergo why these countries are used as the 'good guy' for such situations. All one has to do, is trace the money and who they belong to.

Whether we like it or not, all of the crops someday will be indirectly cross pollunated with Monsanto. Control the food supply, you control the world.

Can I prove any of this? NO!! But as they say, where there is smoke, there is fire.

I'm not a plant geneticist or Monsanto scientist; but what little I know about GMO indicates that it has been going on since long before the term "GMO" was coined. We called it splicing, cross-pollination, and selective breeding when I was in school. The only difference between GMO and splicing or cross-pollination is that, with GMO, we know what we're getting. In cross-pollination, selective breeding, and splicing, you didn't know if you were getting the bad with the good until it was harvested and consumed. With modern gene-splicing. we know (more or less) what we will get. Does that make modern GMO better? I don't know.

Look at modern wheat (modern - like - the past 150 years). The original wheat plant is 4-6 inches tall and had seeds about the size of blue-grass seed. It's the same with corn. Those "little corns" that sometimes come in Asian food - that's more like what corn originally looked like. Why don't we see feral (or "wild") wheat or corn in abandoned fields? Because those crops must be cultivated to effectively produce.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I've heard that the "health food" soy would be totally undigestable if it had not been genetically modified through selective breeding. This means Silk is not accurate when it says it used 100% non-GMO soy beans. (Not that i care, I love Silk products).

Thanks Joe. Monsanto is the new "big tobacco" and it's pile-on time.

It's nice to hear the other side of splicing.

I'm not someone to cry wolf where corporations are concerned, but Monsanto as is as about as corrupt and power hungry as any politician. They're dirty and have been for a long time. They rank about even with Microsoft on the corruption scale.

By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near. {5T 451.1}

Without a lot of scientific evidence to prove anything, when we were young our tomatoes when sun ripened were delicious and would be lucky if lasting more than three days after being harvested. Micro organisms just loved them. Now that they're genetically modified they will last, in the refridgerator, as long as 2-3 weeks, and some taste almost as good as shoe leather, unless you put a little salt on them.

I don't know why they call red and yellow apples delicious anymore. They've long ago lost that characteristic. And Bing cherries, they've long ago lost anything close to the taste of those found in the Yakima Valley some 40 years ago, although Royal Annes seem to be holding some semblance of the sweet our grandchildren will never experience this side of Heaven. Even ripe watermelon is having trouble of its' own, although if you get them at their peak, memory enables one to remember somewhat, they're not a different species than what use to exist.

In deference to those who try hard to supply the ordinary palate with delicious food, some of the lack in tastiness, could be a result of the depletion of nutrients in the soil that once was to be expected, but now I understand can be as much as 40% less than in days gone by.

Big Tobacco - great business if you're a shareholder in healthcare, life shortening if you're an addicted teenager or pregnant...inhaling carbon monoxide.

Monsanto & Big Pharma are the rising global monopoly in food & health care.

("In the world gigantic monopolies will be formed." 2 Selected Messages 142)

Due to patented seed sales incurring onerous debt, an estimated 200,000 Indian farmers have committed suicide (less than .1% of India's 550 million farmers).

If you've caught the news lately Joe, genetic research has changed somewhat since high school days & apple grafting.

One of the first independent researchers of GMOs, Arpad Pusztai (Biochem doc in Aberdeen, Scotland) published his results in The Lancet in 1999. His work was initially encouraged - it was thought that there could be no harm from GMOs. Feeding genetically modified potatoes to rats, he found measurable damage to the intestine and immune system.

This caused a UK scandal in science and politics. He & his wife were fired by the research institute when they would not be silenced. Scarce independent research has been conducted into GMO safety - esp. long term human effects, as many bodies have ruled them "the same" as traditional crops. (I can't see the difference, can you see the difference?)

Seeds of Destruction (2007 by William Engdahl) documents the role of government and industry to monopolize world food production. The preface can be read below.

This from the HSI Health Science Institute newsletter

Quote:
Dear Reader,

With June fast approaching, we're just a few weeks away from sweet corn season.

That sounds enticing, but not if you make the mistake that hundreds of thousands will make this summer.

They'll sit down to a steaming plate of Frankencorn.

Seriously. This stuff is a monster. It's not only genetically modified. It's TWICE modified. And the second modification is only there to solve a problem created by the first modification.

But doubling up on GM isn't even the most disturbing part. The worst is that it might contain traces of one of the most notorious toxins in history.

Yes, It's THAT bad. And it's the LAST thing you want on your dinner plate.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No ordinary orange

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Years ago, the agri-business giant Monsanto brought an evil spawn into the world -- Roundup Ready crops. It was genetically modified (GM) to survive drenchings of Monsanto's Roundup weed killer.

If "evil spawn" sounds a little overdramatic, well... I'm sure we could find thousands of farmers who would agree.

More recently, Monsanto introduced RR seed for sweet corn. That's the corn you buy in bins at your local supermarket. But this corn has a little something extra. Scientists modified the genes to include a trait called Bt.

Bt kills insects.

That's right. Sweet corn. On your dinner table. Genetically modified. Drenched in weed killer. Infused with insecticide.

Scary? Oh, I'm just getting warmed up...

With RR, Monsanto scientists believed they'd outsmarted Mother Nature. (Have none of these guys seen horror movies? Mother Nature eats scientists for breakfast.)

But with the greatest of ease, Mother Nature responded with something new under the sun: RR-resistant superweeds. These sturdy, fast-growing weeds have turned into an overwhelming problem. Some farmers actually abandon their fields to these stubborn monsters.

That's where a component of Agent Orange comes in. Yes, I'm talking about THAT Agent Orange -- the highly toxic defoliant used during the Vietnam War.

The Agent Orange component is called 2,4-D. It's a poison that kills superweeds. But it can only be used very early or very late in the growing season. Otherwise, it kills the corn. So Dow (the maker of 2,4-D) has developed a GM corn that's 2,4-D-resistant.

Oh sure! Great plan! That means corn crops can be drenched in this potent superweed-killing toxin throughout the growing season.

This is beyond mind-boggling! Has nobody at Dow realized that this is the VERY SAME PLAN that created the superweed problem?

The difference is that the next generation of superweeds will be superweeds on steroids. And what "solution" will Dow or Monsanto give us then? Napalm-resistant crops? Radiation-resistant crops?

Meanwhile, back at our dinner tables, traces of 2,4-D might affect us in any number of ways. But here's a potential clue. After Vietnam, Agent Orange use was linked to cancer and birth defects. And if that's a terrifying notion, then you might enjoy this quote from CBS News...

"Dow says the herbicide is perfectly safe, citing numerous government approvals."

Perfectly safe! I don't know whether to laugh or weep. Is there anyone naive enough to take comfort in that statement? And "government approvals?" That idea might have been reassuring 50 years ago. But not in 2013. No way.

So, if you can, buy your sweet corn from a local farmer this summer. A small farmer. A farmer who plants the old-fashioned way -- with real corn seed. Not Frankencorn.

The HSI is not considered a reliable source for health information. Just going through their website, reading their articles and products they push or try to sell, will allow any none conspiracy belief person, to see that they are against scientific medicine, into government conspiracies, etc, etc. It seems only they know the real truth. That phrase is always a tip off. Tis really sad the untruths they publish that people will believe in.

Now that didn't take much debate, did it? At least not for those who recognize the prophecy (God's declared will and purpose) is of no private interpretation.

"[Yet] first [you must] understand this, that no prophecy of Scripture is [a matter] of any personal or private or special interpretation (loosening, solving)." brackets parenthesis theirs LHC

"When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future."John 16:13 NLT

So if a person hasn't asked for the Holy Spirit, even a simple Truth like that is a mystery. However there is a way out.

"So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”"

He is what everyone is looking for in the honesty of their hearts. He is the Desire of all Nations (peoples).

I think all agree with that olger. But when asked by the Jews of his day, what did Jesus say? I know its not exactly the same than and now, but the Jews had there problems with the than government, but yet Jesus tells them to give unto Caesar what is required and unto God what he's required. Now I know that this statement from Jesus basically was about money, but it could easily go for many other situations. But it seems to me we are now going offtopic

Yes, quite correct. If this was a topic about the four fundamental existential questions, that would have been meaningful input to the discussion. But the topic is obviously much more temporal than that. It reminds me of a favorite saying of my MIL, "He is so heavenly minded, he is no earthly good." In context of this discussion, it would be as helpful if a customer came to Ger and asked him for a recommendation for the best insulation material, and Ger said, "Jesus".

Really, it does more than run things off-topic, it trivializes Jesus. To me it is not much different than using the Lord's name as an expletive. It is taking the Lord's name in vain, by invoking his name inappropriately and quite needlessly out of context. I think it is offensive, actually.
