HENRY, Neb. – Ray Chapman, 88, of Henry, Neb., passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb. with family by his side.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 31 at the Seventh Adventist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastors Ron Russell and Ken Maldonado officiating. Interment will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery near Morrill.

The Nebraska Army National Guard will be performing military rites. Visitation was Thursday, May 30 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell, Neb. Memorials may be given to Morrill American Legion or the Seventh Day Adventist Valley View School.

Ray was born on April 8, 1925 in Minatare, Neb. to Charles and Bertha (Segebartt) Chapman. He went to grade school at nine mile and did one year, his ninth-grade year, at Platte Valley Academy.

Ray served in the Korean War from Sept. 23, 1950 to Aug. 8, 1952. He drove truck hauling crude oil before and after he married Lorraine Nuss on Aug. 16, 1953. To this union, four children were born, Dwaine, Ed, Stan and Ken.

Ray farmed his entire life up and down the valley and a short time in Whitney, Neb. He also had his CDL and at different times drove truck for various people. The last 21 years he lived in Henry farming and driving semi with the family.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; sons Dwaine (Diane) Chapman, Ed (Steph) Chapman, Stan Chapman and Ken Chapman; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and sister Glenna Hedgecock.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Phyllis Chapman and Ruth (Bruce) Brown
