'Jesus' closes porn store

The owner of an adult store says Jesus Christ convinced him to close the business and burn £6,400 of pornography.

Michael Braithwaite says the holy message came to him after he was hurt in a car accident.

Braithwaite says that was when he realised he was in a "sinful business".

He has now burned $10,000 worth of porn at his store in Putney, Kentucky, and plans to open a Christian bookstore.

In July, Braithwaite pleaded not guilty to charges of advertising and distributing obscene material.

But he says his conversion isn't just a ploy to avoid prosecution.

Good for this man, now pray for him because porn is one of the most powerful tools in Satan's artillery. Porn is a tool to destroy men's souls....It makes women simply an object for perverted sexual gratification....There's no love in this equation! Both men and women lose...

When I hear that it helps marriages, I shutter....Been there, done that! It is a lie!!!!!!!! It comes from Satan....Be warned, don't buy this lie....

Correction, it makes some people believe that other people are objects for sexual gratification.

Actually it makes the women in the movies, strip-bars, magazines, etc. exactly that - objects for perverted sexual gratification.

Add to that that many of these women are drug addicts, run-aways or victems of childhood sexual molestation. These women are just being exploited and I would say the many of the male actors are too but not to the same degree.

Porno gives a very distorted view of sexuality to those that use it. A lot of porno is purchased by couples and they start to think that is how sex is suppose to be done. The actors involved in it look like they are having so much fun but when the camera shuts off it is a whole different scene. The whole world of pornography is sick. Not only shouldn't we behold such images but we should fund such an industry either.

Porn stinks (to put it politely). Period. Gross. Ew.

Amen to Robert's, Shane's & Chrys' comments here so far ... and double amen to David's, no man is beyond the saving power of Jesus.

Shane, I was thinking more along the lines that when these videos are viewed, the viewer then takes that false notion of these people being objects for sexual gratification.

NO ONE IS AN OBJECT FOR SEXUAL GRATIFICATION: EVEN IF THEY USE DRUGS, "STAR" IN THESE MOVIES, WORK IN STRIP CLUBS, ETC.

These are people--just like you and me--who deserve the same love and respect from one another just as you and I do. They may have been caught up in a life of sin, but there is still life in them. Still a chance for revival.

We can't always excuse the women who participate in porn movies. Many of them do it for self-glorification.... However, the greatest attraction is $$$$ MONEY!!!

When I say "excuse" - I mean by stating the usual - i.e., they are on drugs or they were themselves victimized. As long as one plays the victim one will never see the need for change....It's always the other guy. What I mean is that as long as I can point to someone else, I don't have to look in the mirror at myself

I heard some well-known feminist state that marriage was nothing more than legalized prostitution! shocked.gif Well, I don't fully agree with that statement, but sad to say "many" marriages are not born in love. Unconverted men tend to go for the looks - the sexuality. Problem is when his wife puts on a pound or two (or a wrinkle or two) the marriage is over....And unconverted women tend to go for security (that means $$$$ bucks or potential). If the money dries up she's gone.... From that aspect the feminist had a point - the guy is paying for sex....Ugly, ain't it? icon_smile_sick.gif

Robert, NO woman who has any self-worth at all would ever stoop to that kind of thing. Women who do these things do it because they don't think they have anything else that anyone would want enough to pay for.

I am not trying to excuse anyone for BEHAVIOR that they choose. I am trying to say that just because someone chooses to behave poorly does not mean that he/she becomes that which others think they are. No matter what behavior one chooses, one is still human and is, therefore, still valuable in God's eyes. We would all do well to emulate God's love for one another and to quit pointing fingers at people who openly practice sinful behavior.

Shane's post said that the viewer MAKES the person involved in pornography an OBJECT of sexual satisfaction. Nothing we do as individuals can MAKE a person become an OBJECT.

People are people. People are never, never objects.

I guess the same is true of male CEOs who rob from their own employees for their own personal gain! I guess any CEO with any self-worth at all would ever stoop to that kind of thing. smirk.gif

Amen, Chrys. When I said porn was gross I meant the medium of corruption it is, the imagery it portrays, the degradation it causes, and the industry itself. But yes, none of us have any room, as sinners ourselves, for Pharisaic "God thank You that I'm not like them" prayers, because a twist of fate could have led us there, and we all have our own sins to contend with. All human beings are of value to God no matter how far in sin they have sunk. I ought to know! (having sunk pretty far myself)

Yes, indeed male CEOs should be loved too! Even if they steal from their own employees. Love them so much that one day they'll learn that stealing isn't a good thing to do and that they should stop.

This analogy, by the way, makes no sense. CEOs do not engage in sinful behavior--in this case, thievery--simply by nature of their position.

Easy to say, but not so easy to do - especially if it was you who just lost thousands of retirement dollars and are now being forced to work many more years.

I believe you're are missing out on my point.... Whether it's the male CEO or the female porn star making millions, the spirit of self-justification; the cop out of "I'm a victim" isn't going to get them one step closer to the kingdom of God. Only those who see their sinfulness and ask for Christ's righteousness in return will see heaven. And, BTW, I might add - their lifestyle will eventually change....

Ever read Dickens' A Christmas Carol? It is the same spirit of the Cratchit's that I'm talking about.

The only thing we can do to help these people, victims or not (and, by the way, they are all victims in one way or another), is to pray for them, to reach out to them, and to love them.

Can you love the guy who steals from you? You bet. God does it every single day.

Our lives are about our own personal relationship with Jesus. What happens here is of His concern and His vindication when wrong is done. Our job is to love.

And when you look at it that way, we are employed only by the Holy Spirit and He'll never steal any money from you. He'll only steal your heart away if you let Him.

Again, it's easy to say, "Our job is to love" - but doing it isn't so easy. Human love is fickled and unreliable. Humans can't love unconditionally....The best of us "fall short."

They [those caught up into lifestyle sins] need to hear about God's love....They need to hear about a God who loves the worst of sinners more than He loves Himself. They need to hear about a God who was willing to say goodbye to life forever so that the vilest of sinners could take His place. Even then, some will refuse....Why?

1 Tim 6:8 but if we have food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich [be it the CEO or the porn star] fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and hurtful desires that plunge men [mankind] into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evils; it is through this craving that some [i.e., some believers] have wandered away from the faith and pierced their hearts with many pangs. .

Robert, if you really believe there is any real comparison between what those two activities really mean to those who perform them, you are extremely dense.
