aka
Christine, you put this sentence in your opening topic thread first message : "Post anything you like, as long as it's OFF TOPIC. Anything that is not OFF TOPIC will be rejected as unworthy conversation and you will asked to move your post elsewhere!" Is it possible to come to some softer concensus of ruling without us plebs having to walk on egg-shells of the "..... will be rejected as unworthy conversation and you will asked to move your post elsewhere!" ? We all have been seeing some serious responses to topic themes spontaneously opening within this "Off Topic" thread. If we all were to be afraid of staying on-topic for a volley of 5-7 post message replies, it would be stiffling a much needed dialogue exchange. Would it be alright if you, or anyone, would formulate mercifully a more workable parameter for usage in this 'Off-Topic' thread? Administrators Naomi Posted September 7, 2005 Administrators Share Posted September 7, 2005 About 10-12 years ago I was not hired for a really good position. As the board was putting together my compensation package the chairperson said, "Never trust anyone whose last name ends in a vowel. <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> The little devil on my shoulder said, "wouldn't it be great if you had a strong connection with an organized "crime" figure." Clio
It's raining here today... the yellow leaves have all left the trees. My driveway looks like a path paved in gold. I wonder what shade of gold the streets in the New Jerusalem will be? Did you know in Israel they abbreviate it as J'lem? Clio Quote A heart where He alone has first place. aka
J'lem ? it seems so Jewish to do that with the city's name. They have as tradition abreviated Yahweh so to not desecrate it and now the shortcut for the holy City. Interesting. I didn't know they were doing that in print. J'lem would make a nice moniker name online. Turmeric

Moderators LynnDel Posted September 7, 2005 Moderators Share Posted September 7, 2005 Woke up in the hours and watched Uncle Buck. So funny, so much like that embarrassing family member everyone has - you love 'em but you avoid 'em in public. At the end he's waving good-bye. Kinda sad. Made me think of my missing good-bye. cricket
Turmeric (and everyone else who'd like a little more leaway), Do whatever you like with this OFF TOPIC thread! Initially, I posted it as a personal, albeit subtle, rant against the "OFF TOPIC" warnings issued in the regular threads. I think it's a silly request, myself. In a normal conversation people tend to go off on tangents and say things that strike them at the moment. Quite often, I am frustrated at the times when I have something important, but OFF TOPIC to say and I feel like I have to "keep my mouth shut" because it's technically not ON TOPIC! So, as I said, do whatever you want with this thread. I am all for staying "in coversation" but not necessarily "on topic". [:"brown"]OPEN POSTING ON ANY TOPIC MAY BEGIN NOW!! aldona
Looks like I'm heading towards 2000 posts (I think this one is number 1996). I think this happy occasion calls for a change of title. "Pap Test Queen" has had its day, and it is time to capture a different facet of who I am. I'm leaning towards "The Armchair Activist". My husband would say that "Born Free - But Now I'm Expensive" would be more appropriate. Does anyone have any ideas? aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? Michelle
Gladly the Cross-Eyed Bear is the punchline of a joke (the little boy comes home and says, Mom, we sang about that bear. What bear? You know, Gladly, the Cross-eyed Bear). I unfortunately thought it was very funny and named one of my son's first tiny stuffed bears Gladly, because he's cross-eyed. Well, the name stuck and now my 8 y/o, who can't part with stuffed animals, still has Gladly, though he doesn't know why he's got that name! aka
...so the parameters of this OffTopic thread are totally unrestricted wide open in themes, right? 1. We can talk about whatever we want to and just say something just for the sake of saying it. It goes without saying that we are still nonetheless committed SDA Christians and in the process of growing in holiness unto our Lord. That carries with it certain posting restraints for the sake of not offending others, right? 2. We can write a message without being uptight that someone should answer us. 3. We may answer a comment made by another and they may continue writing additional comments to the topic as well. The vollies of exchange is unlimited to any subject opened up. 4. We may scroll through this thread and relate to a statement another made a time back, and ask a question to them or add a new thought to their statement. 5. We may stay as Christians in our comments and not use this free-for-all thread to jab or cajole another. However, I can imagine a small leeway will be allowed for "appropriate" cynacism, sarcasim or soft-teasing. Perhaps this whole thread might be a good substitute for our missing Chat-Box.
