cricket
I thought it made logical sense as well. That seems to be the problem I'm having with it. Wondering to myself whether or not the idiom "baldfaced lie" is, in fact a brazen mistake...something along the lines of southern St. Louisans saying "Highway 'Farty-far'" when, indeed, what they mean to say is, "Highway Forty-four." Amelia
I heard a slang? word used today that I havent heard in eons. Of course it was used by an elder person. "T'other". Which is short for "the other" as in "the other one" etc. Quote <p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">"Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you."</span></span> Eph 4:29</span><br><br><img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/gizmotimetemp_both/US/OR/Fairview.gif" alt="Fairview.gif"> Fairview Or</p>
Neil D
Ya'll didn't mention that the Pacific Northwest has a regional dialect to it, and even then, only natives seems ta have it. I used to think it was limited to my oregon natives, but I found it in washington, and other places in Oregon. I am aware of the Maine dialect, and of course, there is that area of the country with the southern drawl. New York has it distinctly nasal quality, and the Bronks is supposed to have something even distinct from New York. And then there are the transplants/races that have thier distinct American accents, ie Sweedish, Blacks, Jews, and there are some subgroups within them as well. All very fasinating...Especially to a drama coach/director looking for a specific flare in scene... swisskris
My husband was reading something in a Swiss newspaper that refered to Washington D.C. He asked me if I knew what D.C. stands for. I said, "Sure, District of Columbia." He started laughing and said, "No, Disaster Control, that's where Bush lives..." Sometimes I think I live with a very strange man...maybe it was all that chocolate he ate growing up.

Derrell M
Swisskriss, Chocolate??? Your culinary background along with my garnishing capabilities should clean every last remnant of chocolate out of the poor guy. I will simply carve an apple, and you can provide the right ingredients to help him place the seeds in it. LOL!! (Hope I've got the right Swiss Kris.) swisskris
Has any one noticed that 3ABN has become Dannyland? All his relatives seem to be on camera all the time. Tommy is what Danny would look like with a toupee, Ronnie is what Danny would look like without his hair transplants and Kenny is what Danny would look like if he had more fashion sense. Interesting...but strange.
aldona
I just want to let everyone know that I'm very happy because I've just had a wonderful Saturday night "at the opera"...well, I've just watched my favorite opera on DVD and the beautiful melodies are going to be going through my head for days... Alfonso & Estrella (Schubert) Highly recommended to all classical music enthusiasts...it's the only opera I know without any murder, adultery, witchcraft, ancient pagan gods and other dubious plot lines...and the basic values that the audience takes away from the story are: - Love is more powerful than war. - The most glorious thing a man can do is to forgive his enemies whole-heartedly. (that's actually in the lyrics) - Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth (well, the kingdom anyway). No wonder it's never seen at any of the major opera houses... aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music?
