aka
Michelle, I have the impression on memory that customarily at coronations the crowd shout this "The king is dead; long live the king" (referring to the previous and new king in the same breath) after the death of one and the crowning of another. I suspect this was also said in abreviated form 1953 for the present Queen Elizabeth II(the king is dead; long live the Queen) I have no proof, sorry. Maybe FiFi can find out. Michelle
Turmeric--this is possible, but in the novel, there was no new king yet (young Arthur was unknown by all but a few)--thus the humor--the habit of saying long live the king when he was already dead. Okay, rather black humor, but still funny to me. M

aka
hhmmmmm, morphine... great stuff when in need. it does it's job. I wouldn't mind having it when on my dying bed. but you getting off it now must mean you were suffering from something most serious. that's makes me worry... and how does it affect your glucose level if you go off morphine? Clio
Note on topic: Well, it's sorta my own fault. I wasn't feeling too well yesterday, and I didn't take my time release morphine like I'm supposed to. I have degenerative bone disease in my left knee, torn meniscus pads, and two tumors in the bone. I need a total knee replacement. But with my husband's health as fragile and poor as it is, I just can't be out of commission that long. I'm the sole support of our family, and for me to go out on disability (even if my husband's health were more stable) would sink us. The ends don't meet now... Only Jesus keeps us going from week to week. So when He tells me it's time, or chooses to heal me, I'll have my knee fixed. In the meantime, I need to remember to take my morphine tablets.... one every 12 hours.... otherwise withdrawals really stink.... feels like your skin is walking off your body... and pretty soon you just wish it would! All your joints hurt, all your pains come back, and your tummy is an unhappy camper. *sigh* Thanks for the concern! I really need to remember to take my meds. Clio
I know Naomi. But we have already lost everything due to my husband's illnesses. For me to be off the 3 months required for me to have my knee rebuilt, and our family living on my disability income during that time would sink the family. It is not possible right now. It will not be possible until my husband is well or dead. In the mean time, I need to remember to take my little green pill. As long as I remember to take them, I'm pretty ok. I've been living with this for a year now. For me it's inconvenient and painful. For my dh it's literally life or death. He credits my being here to manage his healthcare the reason he's still alive. I credit Jesus. Clio Quote A heart where He alone has first place.

cricket
[TIC]Apparently, it is racist to be white and get hit from behind in an auto-accident by a black person. At least, that's what I was accused of today when my daughter and I were struck from behind! (Funny how the police took the other driver away in handcuffs. It appears that she was driving a non-registered car without insurance. Guess being "non-racist" will get you nowhere fast.) [/TIC]

cricket
On topic: sorry about that. I was accused by the black woman who hit me! (She was hit from behind by a white man--in fairness, she accused us both of being racist. Still, she accused us before either of us had even said a word!)
