This week there was a reference to Adventist hospitals -- they didn't say Seventh-day AdVENtist, just ADventist (as we do) -- and Loma Linda University. GG seems like it might be a well-written show. I just don't go for that Chick stuff. OK, Smallville is a bit of a Chick show, but not as bad as Lois and Clark was. The script writer must be basically ANTI-SDA because they are portraying SDA colleges as a conservative boring unsexual safe place to send a girl. I had no trouble at all with boredom, but of course I attended a few years ago, just about the time that colleges no longer had enough hold on students to keep them on campus for the weekend. Before the era of the Grand Weekend Exodus, colleges provided simple entertainment that, at the time, was enjoyable to most participants. Now, I suppose, we might consider it simple and unsophisticated. SDA colleges would like to keep their students on the straight and narrow, which is what makes them so appealing to Lane's mother (herself about as appealing as a barking marine sergeant). Since the show is about to go through some major changes, it wasn't a sure thing. "I'm a little nervous because a lot of things will change next season," she says. "Lorelai and Sookie start their own inn, Sookie's having a baby, and the young people are all going to different colleges. But I'm always surprised and happy when the scripts come in. I'm never disappointed." Still, there was a chance that Lane would be sent away to college, but it looks like she dodged that bullet. "This isn't confirmed," Agena says, "but in the last episode we just shot, my character agreed, out of Korean mother guilt, to go to a Seventh Day Adventist college and live at home. I'm thinking that keeps me and my mom involved in Stars Hollow. I'm pretty sure Rory's going to Yale - and if she doesn't live at home, she'll be close to home." The big question, however, is whether either of Rory's boyfriends will survive the season. The truth is it doesn't look good. Jared Padalecki, who plays Dean, is set to star in the new show "Young MacGyver." Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Jess, gets his own show as well, starring in a "Gilmore Girls" spinoff. Agena says the two will go out with a bang, however. "Dean and Jess get into a huge brawl over Rory at a party (in the April 15 episode)," she says. " I think Jared got hurt. I heard that it looks great on-screen, but the blows are pretty close. One of the punches landed! I think Jared needed to put an ice pack on his eye." MTV shows restraint During wartime, MTV Europe is nixing violent videos, such as ones with images of war and explosions, a spokeswoman told MSNBC's The Scoop. "Videos with words such as 'bomb,' 'missile,' 'war' or other sensitive words should not be shown at the moment," said MTV Europe executive Mark Sunderland. "We're screening videos with an eye toward current events to make sure whatever we play is sensitive and appropriate." MTV Europe has issued a list of videos that should not be played during the conflict in Iraq. Among the banned are System of a Down's "Boom!," an antiwar video directed by Michael Moore, whose "Shame on you, Mr. Bush!" speech Sunday night had Oscar directors scrambling to play exit music. WB picks six shows The WB announced last week that it is picking up six shows to return next season. Leading the pack is "7th Heaven," by far the network's highest-rated show. The network has given the show a two-year pickup, meaning it will make it through nine seasons. The network also has picked up "Gilmore Girls," "Smallville," "Everwood," "Charmed" and "Reba." "Reba" is the network's highest-rated comedy and "Charmed," a show barely hanging on last season, has seen its ratings grow on Sundays, a night the network has always had trouble programming. Two reality shows, "The Surreal Life," and "High School Reunion," also have been picked up for another season. You may have noticed that two shows, "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," and "Angel" aren't on the list. "Sabrina" is rumored to be ending its run this year and planning a series finale. The fate of "Angel" is more up in the air as it continues to struggle in the ratings. The network has until May to make a final decision. 50 Cent still on top There was no change in the top three on the album charts as the music industry suffered another slow week. Rapper 50 Cent made it three weeks in a row at No. 1 as "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" sold another 240,000 copies. Norah Jones comes in at No. 2 as her "Come Away With Me" sold 243,000 copies and R. Kelly's "Chocolate Factory" takes the No. 3 spot with 105,000 copies sold. Aguilera and the NBA The NBA will present the world premiere of a new Christina Aguilera video "Love it Live" on Sunday during ABC's telecast of the Washington Wizards vs. Boston Celtics game. The 90-second music video, produced by NBA Entertainment, features Aguilera's new single "Fighter" and will promote the NBA's 2003 Playoffs "Love it Live" campaign. The "Love it Live" video, filmed at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, follows Aguilera as she prepares for a performance on center court. Kevin Williamson, creator of the show who is writing the finale, says fans will get their answer. "Quite frankly, I want Joey to make a decision," Williamson tells TV Guide. "I think the last couple of seasons I've gotten frustrated with her character sort of being here, there, everywhere. "Also, it's going to be fun to play up ... you know how during the first two seasons it was a very self-aware type show? Well, it's going to be fun to watch our characters rendered speechless," he says. "I'm going to finally render them speechless. There's going to be a lot of laughs and tears. And we're going to do the whole tear-jerking ending. The show, which will be set five years in the future, also will feature a wedding, but Williamson won't say who gets married. They show what evangelist will be at what church and the dates. So that may be a place to head. Here in TN, this fall, evangelism will be in high gear and MI was the front runner for this style of having the lay people doing it when I was there in Sept of 02. We have heard many SDA comments, which some would perceive as negative; but I thought were funny. Many of the things said are probably things that most non SDA's think about us. She is unreasonably strict, has manphobia, heard that SDA colleges were strict (maybe were, a few decades into the last century), thinks an SDA college is the next best thing to a convent, and therefore Lane should go to one. Lanes mom has been shunning Lane. Adventists don't condone shunning. LD P.S. My personal opinion about Gilmore Girls is that it's losing its zing, and in order to keep its ratings is already going in directions that no longer interest me. Lane's mom shunning her, I think is a cultural thing not necessarily and SDA thing. I love the show, and even though my girls are not here we call each other right after we've seen it to talk.
