Jesus was a capitalist

One truth shines out from the Bible: Jesus spoke to the individual, never to government or government policy. Jesus was a capitalist, preaching personal responsibility, not a socialist.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

That was an excellent article. Interesting to be sure.

By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near. {5T 451.1}

I absolutely detest "this makes Jesus weep in heaven" statements.

But I like capitalism much better than the elevated state power of socialism/communism. Lots of examples in history, Brethren.

My bible notes that His kingdom is not of this world Jn 18:36. As such, I highly doubt Jesus would subscribe to any financial-political instituational system, regardless of how 'right' it may seem. Let's not overlook the fact that the supposed beacon of Capitlaism, of which the world's capitalist systems try to aspire to is also the Second Beast of Rev.

Jesus also noted: "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's" Mt 22:15-22, further providing evidence that He is not affiliated with an earthly political system which in turn control its finanical systems. I state finanical and not political since Democracy and Capitalism are not synonymous.

This is not to say that I do not appreciate what I have living in a Capitalist system. In fact, I enjoy, and are grateful living in a free market; however, His ways are not my ways.

Jesus does not need the benefits of living in a free-market, nor do His people need its benefits to have a walk with God. God has people in every financial system. In fact, scripture notes that in the latter times, His people will eventually be oppressed and persecuted and will eventually have to give up whatever freedoms and possessions they have.

It is my humble opinion, that suggesting that Jesus is Capitalist is very close to blasphemy. I personally can only go with what the bible states, and any suppositions about the character and nature of Christ I defer to the SOP.

The Pope has recently come out as a big supporter of "social justice." This resonates with the current white house a lot.

The hands are clasping methinks.

So often people try to change the meaning of the word 'personal responsibility' into 'social justice' so as to avoid it entirely. Being concerned about others in a tangible way does not seem to be a part of the more conservative system, which seems to focus on self, pure thought, correct belief and let others fend for themselves. I live very close to one of the major religious groups headquarters, and the history has been desireing the government to force their views, gay issues, what is wrong with the world, abortion, etc. Since losing,in their view, the election and hoped for influence, things have been much quieter.

However, I do see some of the same elements with in Adventism. The constant focus is on 'things' not agreed with instead of Christ, unless it is their view of what God should be. 'Narrow path', has come to mean 'my interpretation', the 'Bible' says has become 'EGW' says. Individual salvation has become corporate salvation, ie., salvation is of the SDA church. Personal conscience is being set aside in obedience to the .org.

Never mention the word 'social justice', it will always be turned into something bad, we just can't have that, it's not christian, of the devil!! Remember, personal responsibility is really a code word for social justice!! Avoid at all costs!!

It seems appropriate to quote someone currently in the news -

“Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice. It is the protection of a fundamental human right, the right to dignity and a decent life. While poverty persists, there is no true freedom.”

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

(And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

Conservatism, the more strident voices, will simply state 'freedom comes from Christ' ignoring all of his words that speak to personal responsibility/relationship to others.

I have come to view conservatism as paranoia, in other words, what I 'touch' might contaminate me. Christ has been remade into some common person without any once of compassion, unless...unless they have earned it through some means.

Bottom line, I am not liberal enough with what I do have and that always bothers me this time of year, especially.

You can't overcome poverty, brethren. Some people will gravitate that direction no matter what you do to and for them.

I think some people need to take a good look at what Scrooge stood for, I'm hearing some 'echos' of his words. Christmas time is a good time for a reading of Charles Dickens again.

“This is the even-handed dealing of the world!" he said. "There is nothing on which it is so hard as poverty; and there is nothing it professes to condemn with such severity as the pursuit of wealth!”

Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

“Are there no prisons?”

Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

“Christmas a humbug, uncle!" said Scrooge's nephew. "You don't mean that, I am sure?"

"I do," said Scrooge. "Merry Christmas! What right have you to be merry? what reason have you to be merry? You're poor enough.”

Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

“But you were always a good man of business, Jacob,' faltered Scrooge, who now began to apply this to himself.

Business!' cried the Ghost, wringing its hands again. "Mankind was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business. The deals of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!”

Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

“And it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God bless Us, Every One!”

Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

Is the Seventh-day Adventist Church a branch club of a political party in America?
Nope.

What we have seen lately, is theological liberals in the church adding political liberalism to their worldview.

And for the sake of some individual's personal salvation, God leads them down that path.

How one could arrive at that conclusion would indicate a distant relationship with the ministry of Jesus and Jesus as a Friend.

Quote:
Capitalism is at once far too rational, trusting in nothing that it cannot weigh and measure, and far too little as well, accumulating wealth as an end in itself. —Terry Eagleton, Harper's, March 2005

Capitalism as practiced is a method of humanism seeking ways to legally enrich one's self while determining the best way one can exploit the riches of others for self enrichment, totally opposed to the ministry of Christ, Who was and is willing to trade all that He is in order to benefit those who would have no other means to share eternal life.

"And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. The days in which we live are solemn and important. The Spirit of God is gradually but surely being withdrawn from the earth. Plagues and judgments are already falling upon the despisers of the grace of God. The calamities by land and sea, the unsettled state of society, the alarms of war, are portentous. They forecast approaching events of the greatest magnitude. The agencies of evil are combining their forces, and consolidating. They are strengthening for the last great crisis. Great changes are soon to take place in our world, and the final movements will be rapid ones.—Testimonies for the Church 9:11. {ChS 52.2}

The time is at hand when there will be sorrow in the world that no human balm can heal. The Spirit of God is being withdrawn. Disasters by sea and by land follow one another in quick succession. How frequently we hear of earthquakes and tornadoes, of destruction by fire and flood, with great loss of life and property! Apparently these calamities are capricious outbreaks of disorganized, unregulated forces of nature, wholly beyond the control of man; but in them all, God’s purpose may be read. They are among the agencies by which He seeks to arouse men and women to a sense of their danger.—Prophets and Kings, 277. {ChS 52.3}

The World a Pesthouse

Men in their blindness boast of wonderful progress and enlightenment; but the heavenly watchers see the earth filled with corruption and violence. Because of sin the atmosphere of our world has become as the atmosphere of a pesthouse.—Testimonies for the Church 6:10, 11. {ChS 53.1} underlined mine LHC
