Members phkrause Posted May 30, 2014 Members Posted May 30, 2014 Well its about time. :):) Anyway, most know that we had retired and moved to Florida back in Jan/Feb '11 and than had to move back to MA in Aug/Sep '12 when we found out that the DCF were taking our grandchildren from our daughter and the father. Well we now have guardianship of our grandchildren. Parents didn't and still have not shown that they are capable of taking care of the children. We had intended to stay at least another year to give them more time to bond with there children, but my Mom fell and broke her leg this past Sunday. So we have a problem and that is how to take care of her. The best place is to be back there and close. We need prayers, that we will be able to pack, and get there, find a place to live. Figure out what to do with my Mom! Can she realisticly(sp) live on her own at her own house or have to go into a assisted living facility!! Or care we really take care of her. My has also been diagnosed with Lime disease, so she really can't take care of her as well as when she broke her hip back in May of '11. And with us now taking care of the grandchildren, we really can't take care of her and them. But with Gods help and your prayers we are going to give it a shot. So thanks for your prayers in advance. Not only that we're going to try and accomplish this before the month of June is over. Quote phkrause Obstinacy is a barrier to all improvement. - ChL 60
Administrators Gail Posted May 30, 2014 Administrators Posted May 30, 2014 It has been a long road but this is good news! nuff sed Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Pete: Welcome back! We took care of my mother until it got to the place where it was no longer advisable for either her or us. I am not sure what Assisted Living facilities are charging nowadays but Nursing Homes charge $6000+. We were blessed by a physician who found us a private home in which two SDA nurses from Trinidad were taking care of their 99 yr.old mother and were considering taking on another patient. To make a long story short Mother has been there for two years and their mother died about a year ago. Mother is 102. I don't know what they are feeding her but her skin is smooth and unwrinkled. She has been bedridden after breaking her hip but looks good. The house is immaculate. As far as the two sister caregivers are concerned she is now their mother and mom seems happy though she is deaf as a post and her memory comes and goes. It is costing us $3000 per month BUT that is 1/2 the cost of a Nursing Home. I think that if she had gone to one she would be dead by now. Take a look around. Talk to the Trust Services Dept. of the Florida Conference. They have a list of caregivers in the Orlando area. I don't know if you HAVE to go back to the Deltona area or not. If her house is there and you will take it over that's one less thing to worry about. Regards, Nuff Sed Quote
Members phkrause Posted May 30, 2014 Author Members Posted May 30, 2014 Thanks Gail & dgrimm. nuff sed thanks for that info. Only problem is we don't have that kind of money. Before we moved back to MA, we took her down to Florida Living, they wanted around $1200 a month. God will take care of her and us. I'm not worried. Again thanks for the info. Members phkrause Posted June 2, 2014 Author Members Posted June 2, 2014 That was a few years ago, not sure if its the same. My Mom said she couldn't pay that amount, I'm gonna guess its probably still the case. Quote phkrause Obstinacy is a barrier to all improvement. - ChL 60
Members phkrause Posted June 9, 2014 Author Members Posted June 9, 2014 As a matter of fact, I was just about to mention that. At the moment it will be either this coming Friday, the 13th, or Sunday the 15th. If not, it will be shortly there after. Need to be there before my Mom gets out of the nursing/PT home! Members phkrause Posted June 18, 2014 Author Members Posted June 18, 2014 Thanks to all, for your prays. Have arrived safe in Deltona, FL. Have been able to get online, through my phone. Setup my cellphone to be a hot spot. It actually works faster than my cable internet did. Very indeed. So will be able to visit again more often in the next few days and get back to posting more. Members phkrause Posted July 12, 2014 Author Members Posted July 12, 2014 Just another update. As some or maybe even more of you know. We originally had moved back to MA to keep our grandchildren out of fostercare. So we spent almost 2 yrs there, to now have become there legal guardians. We had intended to spend one more year, but than my Mom broke her leg so we moved back asap. My Mom has been in the hospital for about 3/4 days and than she has now spent the last 4/5 weeks in Orange City Nursing & Rehab Center. Today we just brought her home. On July 23 she sees the surgeon to see if she can put full weight on her leg. We're praying that when he sees her he says she can walk with full weight and the cast can come off. So again thanks for all the prayers. Quote phkrause Obstinacy is a barrier to all improvement. - ChL 60

Members phkrause Posted December 1, 2017 Author Members Posted December 1, 2017 I see its been since September that I said I'd try to update what's happen since we got back here!! Unfortunately I have not taken the time to do it!! So lets see if I can get it started by remembering?? haha At first we lived with my Mom for a few months, but knew we needed to move to a district that had a good reputation for children with autism! God found us a great place and it had a school, preschool (head-start), because down here you have to be 6 before September 1. Well Raife wasn't six until the 18th!! So he had to go to preschool (head-start) for another year. He already had 2 years in Massachusetts and if we had stayed another year, like we had planned, he would've been in kindergarten. So we had to scramble to get him registered by the time school started, but every step of the way God was leading. Since we were considered foster parents, we went right to the top of the list and were able to have our pick of 6 head-start programs, so we picked the closest one to us and it so happen to have a head-start program that had autism as part of there program!! Amen Lord!! So Raife went there for one year and than we found out that the elementary school that he needed to go to next was either the 1st or 2nd best elementary for kids with autism!! Praise the Lord once again!! So Raife started there in September of '14 and Tristan started at the school and the same class that Raife had graduated from. He spent 2 years there and now this year both go to Timbercrest Elementary. With Tristan in kindergarten and Raife in 2nd grade! But in the past year just before the start of the new year for school, the house we were living in, the owners decided to sell, so we needed a house that was still in the same district to be able to continue and the same school. Well God worked that out too!! Thank you Lord once again!! Got a house that was even more roomier than the other one. 5 bedrooms and a pretty good size play room! An older home but in pretty good shape!! The only thing is that we're to close for them to ride the bus. The last 2 years Raife got to go by bus and Tristan was hoping to be able to ride the bus with his brother, but that didn't work out! Neither one is complaining so that's good. We only live about a mile from there school, so if we had to walk or they would like to ride there bikes, that can be done!! So that kind of brings what's happen to kids, next I'll try to bring you up to date on my Mom!! Quote phkrause Obstinacy is a barrier to all improvement. - ChL 60

Members phkrause Posted January 25, 2018 Author Members Posted January 25, 2018 So let's see if I can update my Mom's situation!! When we first moved back she was in Orange City Nursing and Rehab, where they sent her for rehab for her broken femur! They didn't do a great job, the brace dung a hole in her leg and she wound up going to see a wound specialist, but she, after 3 and 1/2 years, going on 4 this may/june, still has the wound. Which doesn't seem to be healing. Just before Christmas, 2017, she fell and hurt herself pretty back. We happen to be at her house earlier that day, a sunday, raking and mowing her grass, etc. Later that day she fell and when her nurse came to work on her wound, he found her laying on the ground. Estimation is that she laid there for about 15 hours. He called 911 and got a ambulance to come and take her to the ER at Fish Memorial in Orange City. He tried calling us, but my cell was off, because we were at a meeting at Timbercrest Elementary for my oldest Grandson, checking on his progress and what the people working with him are doing. So I didn't get the message until we got home and I turned my cellphone back on. One of the things that happen at her fall was that her left lung filled up with fluid, she didn't want to get it drained. Anyway when she got out of the hospital, she came to live with us. She really can't be by herself anymore! As I mentioned before, the house we lived in was a 4 bedroom, but the owner decided to sell, so we had to move and stay in the same district so the kids, especially my older grandson, could stay in the same school and was already helping and working with his Autism!! But God got us into a 5 bedroom, which to me, obviously, looking back it makes sense because God knew we would be needing a bigger place so that my Mom could live with us. Since than she was been back to get her lung drained!! Yesterday her nurse came over to change the dressing and found that her other leg is now giving her problems so he called her doctor who said we should take her in to the ER and get it evaluated. They kept her and are giving her antibiotics for the infection!! Not sure when she'll get to come home. Also the fluid is building up in the lung again!! There not sure if they'll drain it yet. So keep praying for her, Thanks to all!! dgrimm60 1 Quote phkrause Obstinacy is a barrier to all improvement. - ChL 60
Outta Here Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Prayers for healing and answers! Hang in there, caring for our parents/grandparents is difficult, for sure, but rewarding as we're doing the "work" that God intends for us. phkrause 1 Quote
