Probably. grin.gif

We seem, as humans, to do that a lot.

But they are then those for whom we should pray harder. They have judged another's character... and that's a dangerous thing to do.

I hope if I do that, I have eyes to see and ears to hear what I have done, and get it taken care of at the Throne right away. frown.gif

I am a sinner. And many sins I have yet to overcome. I often wonder if I will be able to before Jesus comes again.

A related question I've always had is, what exactly is *sin*? From other threads, I've gathered that what might be sin for one person, may not be sin for someone else. So how does a person know for sure what *sin* is? Is it a thought? An idea? Actions? Wishes? Is it to be determined by one's conscience? By feeling guilty? confused.gif

One size does not fit all..

There is a difference between

A rich man who steals food or cheats a store

and

A poor man who steals food to feed his family.

(in the OT it clearly states that a poor hungry man who steals to feed his family has no condemnation)

I also see a difference between a

Married person who habitually cheats on the spouse,

and a

Single person who is so 'skin-hungry' that they are in a horrible situation...

and a zillion other examples...

we are not to judge, we are too live the life, and do the mission God has given us.

I wasn't thinking about what other people do that might be sinful - I was thinking about me. How do I know what sins *I* am guilty of? Of course, I know some of the really awful things I've done are sinful, but what about other things I *don't* know about? I thought the Bible says that we should confess our sins, but if I don't know what I've done that's sinful, how can I confess it? frown.gif

(if my questions seem kinda dumb, just ignore them....sometimes it's hard to know what's okay to ask and what questions to keep to myself.)

Hi Pam -

I can so relate to your struggle. It's one I've wrestled with more than once.

I finally got so desperate, that I asked Him to reveal to me all hidden sins that I could then confess them and be forgiven. From time to time He has brought things to my mind that I haven't thought of in years... and we work through them. Usually winding up with me on my knees in tears of remorse, confessing, and receiving forgiveness.

Occasionally, I've been known to be stubborn, and then it takes longer, and Jesus has to resort to some serious tail-kicking before I surrender and see His point. (I hate it when that happens...I'm spiritually "sore" for days afterwards!)

Other things, He's revealed by leading me to study and understand them, and then precept on precept, line on line, I become heart convicted, I repent, confess, and my behavior changes.

Couple of simple rules I follow for conducting my life. If it's not specifically forbidden, or doesn't violate either of the two commandments to Love the Lord thy God with all thy body, mind, and spirit, and thy neigbor as thyself, then in faith I can choose to do... whatever. And if I'm wrong in my understanding, Jesus will let me know.... at which point it's my job to NOT get my nose out of joint and be willing to change/stop/repent or whatever He says is needed.

Clear as mud right?

IMHO A just and loving God would not hold us accountable for what we do not know. I believe, as we have been instructed, we are only accountable for what we know.

Shirley we can not go wrong if we sincerely ask for and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us; and we obey.

The only "dumb" question is the one which is not asked! If you have a question it is a strong probability that many others have the same question but for personal reasons just won't ask.

I wanna tack on to what Namoi said....There is absolutely no such thing as a 'dumb question' when it comes to personal knowledge. Just unasked ones.... And if you don't ask, how will you know?

I have probably oversimplified this answer, but let me ask this question.... why is God so interested in your sins? IOWs, are your friends more interested in your sins than in you? Then why do you think that God so interested in your sins? I know that He can deal with your sins, but, to be totally honest, we are born with iniquity in us, and that makes us do harmful actions against others...Of course we have to be forgiven for the misbehaviors that we do, but the problem is the iniquity in us, and we can not do anything about it,,,,,except one thing....Tell Jesus. Except for complaining about it, iniquity is out of our relm of action...but well within God's relm...Just let God deal with it as He sees fit.

Most believers will quickly admit they are sinners but get terribly upset as soon as someone points out a sin in their life.

When someone points out a sine in my life, I prayfully go to God and ask Him what He would have me do.

"Let the righteous smite me, it shall be a kindness; And let him reprove me, it shall be as oil upon the head; Let not my head refuse it" Ps. 141:5

I've wondered that too!. Here's one of my faviourite texts that I have been looking at again.

Phil 1:6 And I am sure that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on that day when Christ Jesus comes back again. NLT

...For it is God who works in You...

I have to keep reminding myself that it is his work not mine! grin.gif

That just shall live by faith....they live their lives trusing that God will enable them to overcome.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

Sinner = one who has sinned

"For ALL have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God."

Are there such things as sinners? Sounds like it. I'm one. You're one. We're ALL sinners, because we've all sinned.

and, THAT's the truth.

The greatest want of the world is the want of men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true & honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty..., men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall.{Ed 57.3}

Amelia and CA friends, in addition to Philippians 1:6 (a promise I cling to), I would like to share this admonition:

“Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise.” Hebrews 10:35-36 amen2.gif

Lord, lay some soul upon my heart and love that soul through me; that I may humbly do my part to win that soul for Thee.

Hi, Newbie Stef,

As well as amen2.gif it seems only fair to include Gal 6:1-3.

[:"red"] "Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.

Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.

For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself." [/] NASB

Despite the truth of that, I find it difficult to believe the person who comforts themselves with that reality has real confidence and assurance of their place in heaven, for it seems too close to the reasoning put forth by the prince of darkness as to why he should be allowed into the heavenly realms.

Consider these words if you will.

'I'm a sinner, but so are you.'

[:"red"] "Love....is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances..." [/] 1 Cor 13:7 AMP

Would God give us the gift of hope if there were no good reason to hope. OTOH [:"red"] "...(for there is no man that sinneth not)..." [/] 1 Kings 8:46 KJV

[:"red"] "And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night." [/] Revelation 12:10 KJV

Shane for some of us there's a good reason for that behavior. We know how confused we can tend to become, in particular in conjunction with the arousal of vulnerable emotions like shame and guilt, and are guarding ourselves against further confusion by not committing spiritual adultery with our consciences.

The word "adultery" is related to "adulterate" which means to taint something ... so what I mean is, we are trying to prevent our consciences from being adulterated (tainted) by the judgments of other sinful, erring mortals ... because we have enough difficulty as it is sorting out the taint of our OWN sinful, erring mortalness.

Does that help you understand our kind better?

163860-EmoticonPrayer.gif For folks like us, you can always take it to the Lord in your private prayers if the matter is one that causes you genuine concern. Have faith that HE will work it out, and if the concern is valid, bring us conviction in a manner we CAN receive and accept, in HIS timing.

(1) I think you jumped to conclusions when you assumed the statement was intended as something by which to "comfort" myself instead of simply a detached statement of Biblical fact.

(2) From there you seem to suggest that believing the best about others and recognizing all are sinners are mutually exclusive somehow? Not by a long shot. Believing the best about others does not mean lying to oneself that they are not sinners. The Bible clearly states ALL have sinned.

(3) As you pointed out, the Bible states clearly that there is no man (person) who has not sinned. Thus to state that anyone on earth is a sinner is not a judgment nor an accusation, but a statement of fact. It is every bit as much a statement of fact as it would be to point at a human being and state, "You're a human."
