A librarian at La Sierra University for many years, I experienced him as a quietly friendly and encouraging person who loved old and new books. Great! He was one of the very first participants in the "Roy Branson and Friends Sabbath School Class." He always sat at the first row nearest to the west door and often had two or three "new" volumes of all sorts with him. His soft and smiling "Hi Dave!" always lifted my spirits! It was apparent that he was... increasingly unwell and his attendance became more irregular; however, I did not anticipate that he would die as soon as June 22. Jon lived his long life daring to believe at every step of the way that death is not the final word. May we do as well!
