Just for clarification, and I told a member I would respond publicly.

I know some have had struggles in the past and crossed lines, truth is, we all have, some got caught and others did not.  Our concern is what happens in here now and in the future.

If someone approaches you for fund raising, or private things that they should not be asking for, Please contact Gregory.

I know in the past we have raised money for members in need, and some of them were. Some of them according to reports were NOT. AND we paid for their week long parties. Still others sought after widows for funds to "Fill desperate needs".

None of the above fill the mission of this forum.

Thanks to Gregory for his comments and wanting to protect people here.

If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses.

And aside from not assuming everyone with the SDA moniker means "safe":

1) never EVER post online when you will be away from your home

2) do not post your date of birth, where you were born, or where you live

3) if you post obituaries, always edit out the names of children and where they live

4) do not post photos of your children with their names

5) do not post the name(s) of your parents or siblings

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

This includes those mobile phone photos people like to post "on the fly" when on vacation.

While it may be going overboard in personal efforts about safety, I no longer have a cellphone. First reason was savings but considering how many vultures there are out there now, I figured since I got by without one for 7 decades, I wouldn't go out of business if I didn't have one now. Making as intelligent decisions as we can after asking God to take care of us when we are unable to take care of ourselves, would seem to take care of any wolves that are trying to skin us alive.

Well, we live in a society where people love to litigate.  As good Christians we have to adapt to that society.  E.G.    Under U.S. Federal law, every owner of a discussion type website must take certain steps to determine whether or not any people 13 years of age and under participate in that website.  If such are participating, Federal law requires the compliance with certain safeguards.  A failure to comply has consequences.

Outside of legal requirements,, we as church members must consider ethical implications of certain issues.   This may require us to take certain steps that may not be required by law.  The law does not determine our ethics.

LifeHiscost speaking, especially to Debbyn re: me and my wife's welfare, computer problems and we're using the library computer when we can get to town. Also major auto expenses calling for restrictions to travel. Appreciate any prayers offered on our behalf. Hope to see the end of the present problems soon, health is good for both of us except for memory and some need for cooking capacity. LoL

Keep looking up. I really believe Jesus is on the verge of making His appearance.

LHC wishing to let all who might be interested, some one who is a Disciple of Christ (SDA) gifted us a refurbished HP laptop and our auto computer was worked on by an individual good with that expertise, and within a very reasonable price it works better than it has since it was new (2oo6). God bless all you who made it a subject of prayer. God is good.

By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near. {5T 451.1}

I appreciate the good word.

As a note on a current case:  I have personally consulted an attorney who specializes in criminal law, as well as other specialists, and others.

I (we) are following advice not to further publicize the specific circumstances of that case.

So, there are valid  reasons why we are not talking about it and will not allow discussion of that case to become public.

It has gotten dangerous even to post your name on a forum. Some have lost jobs due to harassment from those on the internet and even been stalked. I suspect that we shouldn't ask real names here although I do not see a problem with moderators/administraters knowing who anonymous posters are. Just a fact of life that if someone doesn't like your opinion, they will try to destroy you.

Read carefully the "privacy statement" from some of these websites. I read through one tonite, which I thought I might want to be part of, but reading on and on about what data they collect, who gets it, how they are going to track your activity, what they are going to do to your computer such as installing beacons and invisible trackers, I said no way! So, I just backed out of there. Would have been nice to win a trip to meet Joe Kenda on Homicide Hunter (!), but the price was just to high.

I also read recently of an aggressive monitoring program being started to monitor buying habits. GPS has gotten pretty accurate. In fact, if I am sitting in my car in my carport, my phone thru the map program can tell me how many feet I am from my house! So this accuracy of GPS is being enlisted in this way to monitor people. Say you click on an ad on a webpage, but you don't buy. But later on, you actually go into a brick & mortar store and actually do buy the item  you looked at. They will know by following your GPS locations as provided by your smartphone and matching it up to your viewing history on your computer. Zuckerburg is trying to push the envelope even further in that Facebook recently asked banks to provide them with spending histories as so many people pay by debit card. This is a good reason why you should write your representative and ask them to establish privacy guidelines similar to what is now in place in Europe. Facebooks misbehavior related to privacy issues is one reason I will not use their app on my devices. I also keep a second browser (Chrome) which I only use for Facebook. Also, frequently go thru your Facebook privacy settings as sometimes they make a small change and it opens up all the things you closed to prevent unnecessary info gathering. As I tell people, "Facebook is not your friend," even if I use it! Other things you can do is go thru your location settings on your smartphone and look how many apps monitor you location even when they have nothing to do with knowing where you are. Turn OFF location sharing except apps which need to know to give you an answer, such as the sundown app which tells when sundown is. A smartphone flashlight app does not need to track you and flashlight apps have been cited as being very guilty of surveilling people they do not need to.

Few people have any idea as to how their privacy may have been compromised.  I recently read an article that listed several instances in which privacy had been violated.  One given example was of a woman who discovered that she was being watched while breastfeeding her child, in her own home!

Some people attempt to hide behind websites that promise to hide your identity behind an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that will make it impossible to trace.  What they do not realize is that many of those will cooperate  with civil authorities, when formally requested, in identifying an individual

Several years ago, a member of this forum received some pornography from a person who had assumed the identity of a General Conference (SDA) official.  The message containing that porn was traced to an ISP in another country.  I turned that information over to the General Conference.  That  ISP cooperated and steps were taken to prevent the individual who has sent that e-mail from doing so again.

The bottom line is:  If you are on the Internet, you can be traced.

I have a close relative who is in law enforcement.  I have another close relative who is a software engineer in Silicon Valley, and I have recently consulted with a person who prosecutes such crimes.
