Robert
The topic is a quote from Ellen White. Note, Babylon is not yet fallen. By "Babylon" she doesn't mean literal Babylon, but spiritual Babylon. Who is Babylon in the context of the 3 angel's message? Rev 14:6 Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the everlasting gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth...7 He said in a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory" According to Ellen White, "The principle that man can save himself by his own works lay at the foundation of every heathen religion." DA 35 So salvation by works, either partially, or fully, is giving men the glory. But those in Babylon cannot "fall" (apostatize) until they renounce "the everlasting gospel". Matt 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. If the gospel had been preached, the end would have come, but we are still here. We must ask ourselves, why? pnattmbtc
A prayerful study of the Bible would show Protestants the real character of the papacy and would cause them to abhor and to shun it; but many are so wise in their own conceit that they feel no need of humbly seeking God that they may be led into the truth. Although priding themselves on their enlightenment, they are ignorant both of the Scriptures and of the power of God. They must have some means of quieting their consciences, and they seek that which is least spiritual and humiliating. What they desire is a method of forgetting God which shall pass as a method of remembering Him. The papacy is well adapted to meet the wants of all these. It is prepared for two classes of mankind, embracing nearly the whole world--those who would be saved by their merits, and those who would be saved in their sins. Here is the secret of its power. GC 573 Two classes mentioned here: 1.Those who would be saved by their merits. 2.Those who would be saved in their sins. Quote Christ exalted the character of God, attributing to him the praise, and giving to him the credit, of the whole purpose of his own mission on earth,--to set men right through the revelation of God.
