Because of this fact, my family would often stay until late in the evening. At the time I was about ten or eleven so as you can imagine, I would get very hungry. This was especially the case around mid-afternoon, which was quite a few hours after the potluck lunch. My mom knew how kids could be, so she would pack a bunch of snacks for me and my sister to eat during the day. I had an insatiable desire for food, and was so out of control that I would hide from anyone possible – especially my friends – just so I wouldn’t have to share. The good news is, today I can safely say that I grew out of my snack-hoarding ways. Not only that, but experience would teach me that there were those around me, with much greater needs than mine own. I learned that it was important to give, not just because “it was a nice thing to do”, but because it was my duty as a follower of Christ.
