Robert
EGW says that, “Sin originated in self-seeking. Lucifer, the covering cherub, desired to be first in heaven.” [FLB 68] You must remember that while Lucifer perceived God as "number one" he failed to realize that in God's kingdom "the greatest" is the One who is "slave of all." Let's look at this quote: Mark 10:43 "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first [:"red"]must be slave of all."[/] Clearly in heaven "the greatest" is God because He lives to "serve"! There's no "self" in God's selfless agape, love. More later....
Robert
I have already established that, "Sin originated in self-seeking...." Ellen White tells us that "there should be less proud self-seeking, less self-importance." [5T, 479] Does this infer that we are not "free" of self-seeking? Let's look into this issue. I will begin by exploring what constitutes "self-seeking". Let's start with Education: "To what motive is appeal [to higher education] most often made? [:"red"] To self-seeking.[/] Much of the education given is a perversion of the name. In true education the selfish ambition, the greed for power, the disregard for the rights and needs of humanity, that are the curse of our world, find a counter influence." [ED, 225] "Christ's life on earth teaches that to obtain the higher education does not mean to gain popularity, to secure worldly advantage, to have all the temporal wants abundantly supplied, and to be honored by the titled and wealthy of earth....His life rebukes all self-seeking." [CT, 34] More later...
