C/A means different things to different people.  What's your reason for becoming a member of ClubAdventist?

Friendship?

Comfort?

Acceptance?

Assistance or request for prayer?

Needing an answer or opinion to a troubling question?

Proffering a new theological idea?

Debate?

Share a laugh?

Confrontation?

Other?

(most of us would probably list more than one reason.  But there are a few whose reason really eludes me.  Why would anyone come on a friendly forum and immediately proceed to be obnoxious, bully, and generally behave as if they had never before had any training in the social graces?)

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Because I believe, they can hide behind there "avatar" and not have to be face to face!!

By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near. {5T 451.1}

I originally joined because I was just about ready to dump the church, and return to witchcraft.

C/A literally pulled me back.

I am here because I needed a friend or two in the church. I needed a place where I could speak freely the things that are on my mind--without the fear of judgment. I am here because I have made friends over the years. I am here because I need Jesus.

I've been a denizen since fairly early on, and am coming up on 15,000 posts now. I come here to think with friends, and have learned a heap and (I hope) grown over the years. 'Iron sharpens iron', as the Book says, and we learn... perhaps most from those with whom we disagree.

There are ways to disagree without being disagreeable, and I always try to and aspire to, but sometimes fall short. I hope I apologise and withdraw the comments when I fail, but even better not to have made it in the first place. Like all of us, I'm still growing up.

This is me David also!

It does no good to have the knowledge of the great GOD without showing dignity and respect with people who disagree.

Our friends and family and enemies of our theology, nation, and morals and family are God's Beloved too.

and ..

to answer the Question I am here for fellowship and making a point in getting out there Just How Much God really really does love us all.

It changes everything once that gets deep inside.

It is the Saving GRACE!

Oh how I long that for my lovely tribe to catch a glimpse of this REALITY!

David Geelan, thank you for echoing many hearts here !

May the JOY of the LORD be your Strength!

I joined at the invitation of one of the moderators, who read my posts on another forum.  I too was about to jump ship because of the hypocrisy I perceived at all levels of the church; and the problems I had with some of the "cultural" interpretations of the 28 Fundies.  A very kind and concerned member of this forum took the time to go through each of the Fundies with me as posted on the official church website.  I couldn't find any fault in the way they were actually stated, so I postponed leaving.  As I started posting more, I found some wonderful, smart, open-minded people here; as well as those who believe differently than I do.  The ones that have mastered the art of disagreeing without being disagreeable have inspired me to study more.  I still have issues with the way some of the more traditional folks see things; but I'm sure there are those that have issues with my viewpoint.  As long as the differences of opinion inspire spirited conversation and deeper study, that's a good thing IMHO.

This actually has sorta become my home church.  I spend more time with CA than I do my local congregation.  I am blessed to be here.

You are not the only one for whom this site is their home church. There are members who nearly wrote off Christians in general save for knowing someone they encountered here.

I praise God for THEM. The regulars are, like the older brother of the prodigal, here always. But the ones that come back are like having come back from the dead. The hard lesson the younger son learned was humbling that he was changed, but some have not gotten to that point yet. Some are curious, lookieloos. The argument FOR Christ will be not only what you have learned in Scripture, but how your understanding of that has changed your life for better or worse. People will be drawn to Jesus, and if you reflect Him in your dealings with others you will have the attractive appeal that He does.

As I ponder why I first came here, I am not sure I can pin down a specific reason or perhaps a single reason.  The one word that keeps coming to mind is "curiosity".  But I think more significant is what keeps me here and compels me to keep coming back.  That is a combination of friendship, appreciating and needing intellectual stimulation and challenge.  I do love a good discussion and especially exploring new ideas and new ways of seeing old familiar ideas with fellow curious  and open minded people.

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

(And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

I like hearing others peoples experience or the way they think about different issues and ways of life. I don't care for preaching or the 'it has to be this way'. Finding a  world outside of 'being scared conservatism' was awesome, so I enjoy outside the box thinking. Have always been a bit of a question type of person...a way to learn.

I came to discuss the Bible for these last days. Many do not like the things I present but I don't do it for malice or of any evil intent. I do it for us to look at what is happening today. I ask the questions have SDA become just another denomination or church. Are we really ready for YAHSHUA to come. Have we push the Time of Trouble and the end events far off in to the future. What do we believe and why do we believe it. Why do we think we are the remnant, why have we accept things today like the other Protestant churches, where is our faith. Why do we shy away from dealing with Biblical issues that we have held on to,  are they truth or myths. These are things that truly concern me. I want to be saved, I have question my faith and my church and see a lot of errors we are holding on too. Now is the time to take a stand! I pray for all and hope you all will pray for me.

Blessings and Happy Sabbath!

Thank you for your prayers, Stinsonmarri. We each need to uphold each other as we see the day approaching. I am not concerned for any who are clinging each day tor the pathway Jesus has laid out for the body of Christ to follow.

13“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it....Matthew 7

I could not give you and any others who might have thoughts about your post, any greater incentive than to watch this sermon, about an hour and a half, this Sabbath to fortify your minds in the Word. And a :happysabbath:To you.

And by the way, here's a promise to give anyone who is unsure of their salvation, the assurance that Jesus alone promises those who know Him.

1Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.....Hebrews 12

I like seeing how different people think,though it's spiritually and emotionally draining to never find anyone on the same wavelength.

A bit of distraction from the chaos around me in some very remote, lonely places on the planet - oh, and curiosity and nostalgia...

First post - but I've had a profile for 3 years. There are some of us (I suspect) who regularly visit this forum (for me, it is in the weekends when I travel - which is about 6-months in any given year).

Ex-SDA (35 years now) - but found this forum online when I was out on a humanitarian mission in Ethiopia (that's the nostalgia and distraction reason covered)

Curiosity to see if anything has changed since I got up and left my home town and church all those years ago. Seems like an eclectic group of people here, with debates ranging across a spectrum of beliefs and viewpoints.

All the best

I was a robot-walking spiritual zombie when I came across CA in 2005 or so, even though I regularly attended SDA church. It was that Desire of Ages study that nailed it and resuscitated my poor, dead heart. I still miss that study. I'm not a heavy user here, but I do read and/or post weekly. I get these ideas about various topics when I'm falling asleep or waking up, and I have to write them down on scratch paper so that I can remember the ideas later. I frequently incorporate those ideas in my posts thinking that I might get a hit on a lurker. I've said some things here that I now regret, but those mistakes are part of growing up.

I like everyone who posts here, now. The hardliners and SDA**biters don't seem to be around much anymore, thanks to the moderators, I presume. It is good to have our ideas challenged so we can see our positions from others' points of view.

I have a problem with your quotation above.

1)  You do not give the reference from EGW.  It actually comes from Gospel workers, page 126.

2) You do not clearly differentiate between your words and what EGW wrote.

3)  You have changed her wording.  Where EGW wrote "God" you have replaced it with "Elohim."  That is very inappropriate.  Further it suggests that you think that your version of what EGW should have written is better than what she actually wrote.

4) You have printed some of her words in bold, when they are not so printed in GW.

If you quote form EGW, or any other person, please be accurate.

The following is what she actually wrote.

Quote

How Shall We Search the Scriptures?

     How shall we search the Scriptures in order to understand what they teach? We should come to the investigation of God's word with a contrite heart, a teachable and prayerful spirit. We are not to think, as did the Jews, that our own ideas and opinions are infallible; nor with the papists, that certain individuals are the sole guardians of truth and knowledge, that men have no right to search the Scriptures for themselves, but must accept the explanations given by the Fathers of the church. We should not study the Bible for the purpose of sustaining our preconceived opinions, but with the single object of learning what God has said.  {GW92 125.1}

     Some have feared that if in even a single point they acknowledge themselves in error, other minds would be led to doubt the whole theory of truth. Therefore they have felt that investigation should not be permitted; that it would tend to dissension and disunion. But if such is to be the result of investigation, the sooner it comes the better. If there are those whose faith in God's word will not stand the test of an investigation of the Scriptures, the sooner they are revealed the better; for then the way will be opened to show them their error. We cannot hold that a position once taken, an idea once advocated, is not, under any circumstances, to be relinquished. There is but one who is infallible,—He who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  {GW92 125.2}
     Those who allow prejudice to bar the mind against the reception of truth cannot receive the divine enlightenment. Yet, when a view of Scripture is  presented, many do not ask, Is it True,—in harmony with God's word? but, By whom is it advocated? and unless it comes through the very channel that pleases them, they do not accept it. So thoroughly satisfied are they with their own ideas, that they
126
will not examine the Scripture evidence, with a desire to learn, but refuse to be interested, merely because of their prejudices.  {GW92 125.3}

     The Lord often works where we least expect him; he surprises us by revealing his power through instruments of his own choice, while he passes by the men to whom we have looked as those through whom light should come. God desires us to receive the truth upon its own merits,—because it is truth.  {GW92 126.1}

     The Bible must not be interpreted to suit the ideas of men, however long they may have held these ideas to be true. We are not to accept the opinion of commentators as the voice of God; they were erring mortals like ourselves. God has given reasoning powers to us as well as to them. We should make the Bible its own expositor.  {GW92 126.2}

     All should be careful about presenting new views of Scripture before they have given these points thorough study, and are fully prepared to sustain them from the Bible. Introduce nothing that will cause dissension, without clear evidence that in it God is giving a special message for this time.  {GW92 126.3}

     But beware of rejecting that which is truth. The great danger with our people has been that of depending upon men, and making flesh their arm. Those who have not been in the habit of searching the Bible for themselves, or weighing evidence, have confidence in the leading men, and accept the decisions they make, and thus many will reject the very messages God sends to his people, if these leading brethren do not accept them.  {GW92 126.4}

     No one should claim that he has all the light there is for God's people. The Lord will not tolerate this. He has said, “I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it.” [Revelation 3:8.] Even if all our leading men should refuse light and truth, that door will still remain open. The Lord will raise up men who will give the people the message for this time.  {GW92 126.5}
