Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted June 14, 2018 Moderators Share Posted June 14, 2018 For years, it has generally been believed that women the General Conference, voting in session, authorized women to be elected as local Elders. As a resullt, in North America, by 1990, some 1,100 women had been elected to that position. Recently it has been suggested that women have never been so authorized. The following article discusses which position is true and give background of this issue: https://atoday.org/has-a-general-conference-session-approved-female-church-elders/ Quote Gregory

Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted June 15, 2018 Author Moderators Share Posted June 15, 2018 The Wanderer has quoted four (4) sentences from Letter 5, 1861. The following provides a bit more context. That context is clearly that of how Mary was treating her husband in public. It was not the context of promoting a role for women. Quote And, Mary, suffer me a little upon this point: I wish in all sisterly and motherly kindness to kindly warn you upon another point. I have often noticed before others a manner you have in speaking to John in rather a dictating manner, the tone of your voice sounding impatient. Mary, others notice this and have spoken of it to me. It hurts your influence. Lt5-1861.8 We women must remember that God has placed us subject to the husband. He is the head, and our judgment and views and reasonings must agree with his if possible. If not, the preference in God’s Word is given to the husband where it is not a matter of conscience. We must yield to the head. I have said more, perhaps, upon this point than necessary. Please watch this point. Lt5-1861.9 I am not reproving you, remember, but merely cautioning you. Never talk to John as though he were a little boy. You reverence him and others will take an elevated position, Mary, and you will elevate others. GayatfootofCross
"...and he will rule over you". as Prescribed? Not Described? Evident in Paul's culture and understanding( and of course that understanding is reflected in EGW) "... and he will rule over you." -What sin in itself will cause. Just a thought.
