Every year, ancient Athenians carved a tile with the name of someone they disliked. If enough people wrote the same name, that person would have ten days to flee Athens for ten years. A tile was called an 'ostrakon' in Greek, giving rise to the word 'ostracise'.

In a bizarre coincidence, two different "Dennis the Menace" comic strips debuted on the same day in 1951. Both creators, Hank Ketcham (US) and David Law (UK) created them independently, unaware of the other's existence.

Maybe they used the internet to copy each other.

The term "genuine leather" doesn't simply mean real leather; it refers to the lowest quality of all products made from real leather. It can be interpreted as: "Hey... at least it's real leather."

Witches are traditionally depicted as green, thanks to "The Wizard of Oz." In L. Frank Baum's original novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," the Wicked Witch is not described as having green skin. The decision to make her green was made for the 1939 film adaptation. Since then, the green-skinned witch has become a standard stereotype.
