well, when my 5 year old child shared with me what she learned in sabbath school by asking if people were going to hunt us down and try to kill us, and then when she got older told me that she was afraid to have children because she didn't want them hurt during persecution, I think there is a problem with the message being taught....

There is a good novel out there right now which explores these thoughts- Third Coming by Celeste Perrino Walker. It's an easy read- I recommend it even though I'm not really into storybooks

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

When I was a kid of about 6 or 7 and after being told in school and at church about the last days I had nightmares about blood coming out of the faucets, out of the sprinklers, the oceans and rivers were blood, the rain was blood.

I had nightmares about my friends, my family, my teachers, everyone - turning me over to be tortured and killed. Nobody could be trusted.

Talk about making a kid's life hell..

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

One has to wonder if that becomes a motivation (fear) to put oneself on the Lord's side, and if that is the right motivation

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

I have some issues with fear in my life. Now I know why... It's my parents fault <img src="/adventist/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> I should have known.

Well... all joking aside, I question of we really need to be teaching our children such in depth teachings of prophecy at such a young age.

I don't know, if schools are teaching sex education and allowing abortion without the parents knowledge maybe teaching what the Lord has taught us is more important than telling them the world might end any time soon.

It seems to go back to worrying about tomorrow when you have enough problems with today and it will distract them from the most important thing which is their relationship with the Lord. Even Jesus did not reveal EVERYTHING at the same time to the disciples and sometimes we are not just ready to take things in as a child. There are times for some revealing but not traumatize a child that early and instead of loving the Lord and having a Holy fear they will just be terrified of His coming.

I have lived through the usual childhood issues with last day events, but was confronted again earlier this year with my fears. This happened when Soo - of whom we have talked previously - said she had had another visit from the angel with some thoughts for this country. (I am not discussing that particular happening). I felt oonfronted and extremely uneasy, and prayed about my fears. It was brought to me that the only way to overcome the fears was to have a vibrant relationship with Jesus, and to reread Desire of Ages was a good way to start. I have been doing that this year, in addition to my Bible reading, and have certainly found encouragement. So I have agreement with the previous post.

When I had children still at home and no longer had a husband, I feared not being able to buy or sell. My main concern was making my mortgage payment and or real estate taxes... not having a home.

I confessed this fear to God. Over the ensuing years circumstances changed and I inherited a lifetime membership in a sportsman's club complete with a little cabin. A place I could live for a long time without finances if I had to.

This taught me that God has a thousand ways to provide for us. I no longer fear the end times.

When Sunday laws are passed and they start hunting down Sabbath-keepers, I don't think I will be worried about my home any longer. I will be headed south into the Mexican mountains.

I once heard pastor William Loveless of the Loma Linda U. church say that if you really want to get lost in modern times, you definitely don't want to be among a lot of people trying to hide in the mountains. The satellites can could easily find you there. He said it would be harder for them to find you today if you were hiding out in one of the largest cities.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

If one cannot buy or sell, it will be pretty hard survive in a city. The winter will make it hard to survive in many of the mountains in North America. In the end, it will be a matter of God providing and I think a good share of the saints will be martyrs. I also don't see how many will be able to survive in the mountains or wilderness as vegetarians.

Should be easy if you know how to grow your own food. I don't think that the primary reason for getting out of cities is to "hide"... In this day and age there is nowhere to "hide". IMO it is more go scatter God's people where they are not so visible and easy to persecute as they would be if they were all congregated in the centers where they like to congregate now. So...Shane, is it your opinion that if we wish to be 'translated' we must stay in the cities?....but the SOP says that those who do "will have put off the eating of meat" (rough translation)... I think that we have a problem...... or is this one of the times that we think that EGW was just expressing 'her own opinion'?

Me too. Thankfully, even though it's going to be all that and worse, I'm so thankful I'm a daughter of the King and as such, entitled to the same care and protection Jesus would get.

Interestingly, I'm going to get better care than He got, because He got what I deserve, I'm going to get what He deserves. And by the time it gets to that point... while it may be hard, all the points will have been made, all the choices will have been made, all that will be left is Abba's judgement and the Adversary's temper tantrum.

There are times for some revealing but not traumatize a child that early and instead of loving the Lord and having a Holy fear they will just be terrified of His coming.

If events occur involving our children and they have not been forewarned by their parents, they will question what other things might have been kept from them, an attitude that fosters distrust. It seems to me, while not necessarily filling in all the details that are often just a matter of conjecture, it would be better to suggest there will come unnerving events, but our loving Father will always have for us the means to provide deliverance that will meet all our needs.

The promises that parents cling to, in the name of He Who gave it, will far more likely be accepted by trusting children than by adults who have fears that have been fostered as a result of past disappointments of their own.

"No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it." 1 Corinthians 10:13 NASB

" For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:.... a time to keep silence, and a time to speak" Ecc 3:1,7 ASV

I.... confronted again earlier this year with my fears.

More often than not our fears as children of God are based on our correct conclusion that we have not done well enough to deserve the rewards of God's heavenly kingdom, or even perhaps His prevailing care for present safety afforded by the angels of God sent to minister to us.

My personal basis for freedom from fear is to accept His love and prevailing influence by the Holy Spirit. Even should I misjudge my own need for His correction when it comes, I'm satisfied He knows just how much to exert for my well being and He will see me through till such time as He can use me for better purposes than just giving witness to patience, another gift of the Holy Spirit.

"What if some did not believe and were without faith? Does their lack of faith and their faithlessness nullify and make ineffective and void the faithfulness of God and His fidelity [to His Word]?" Romans 3:3 AMP

"...whatsoever is not of faith is sin." Rom 14:23 KJV

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love." 1 John 4:18 NASB

Since my own love is not perfect I lean on the fact that Jesus' love is perfect. Love equated with righteousness enables me to lean on the righteousness of Jesus, as I understand, it being all we need to guarantee us a place in His kingdom.

"....and the righteousness of God [is] through the faith of Jesus Christ to all, and upon all those believing, -- for there is no difference, " Romans 3:22 YLT

the Adversary's temper tantrum.

Clio

Seems like he's jumping the gun.

"When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end.

For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will also be famines. These things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.

But be on your guard; for they will deliver you to the courts, and you will be flogged in the synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them.

The gospel must first be preached to all the nations." Mark 13:7-10 NASB Underlined mine LHC

Seems that gives good reason to share Jesus' love, the gospel, with all we are able.

"For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

And the King shall...say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25:35-37,40 KJV

Remember the Amish schoolhouse shooting a while back? Some of those little girls bravely offered to give their own lives so that the smaller children would be spared.

Whatever it is that they teach their kids about how to be calm and courageous in the face of danger and persecution, we need more of it in the Adventist church.

Sheesh... there was no order implied. But yes... telling everyone I come into contact what Jesus has done for me... I do that.

He's more than willing to do what they need for them.

when i was still a kid, its make me afraid too because the way our pastors and teachers taught us and they presented more on the negative view and i always looking up the sky waiting for the sign that those angels together with Jesus will sound their trumpets in the clouds. but by the time i was in highschool one minister told us about beautiful thing and presenting in a manner that you cant wait anymore Jesus to come because he uttered positive and exciting events.

The people who are really fearful are the people that don't know. They place all their hopes in life going on as is, yet they see that things are going awry.

As for the kiddies, tell them a ficticious fairy tale, like left behind for kids. Tell them that everything will be okay cause the church will be secretly raptured to heaven before all the bad stuff happens for sure.

I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.

In all honesty, I haven't heard/read ANYTHING that makes me look forward to last day events. smiley_no.gif I mean, the way people treat each other now is bad enough.....

This is to Jen and Charis especially.

Once a person is convinced that God really is Love and that it is more blessed to give than to receive, at least in my experience, just the realisation that all this suffering will come to an end when Jesus returns makes my place in heaven entirely secondary to the reality of peace and deliverance to all who will be there. If God could be glorified by my absence in heaven and the giving of my life would be helpful to immediately stop the pain and suffering of this world, then so be it.

OTOH maybe I see it that way because I have little conception of how wonderful heaven is going to be. However I believe some of that reality that we are able to see is the same experience Jesus was aware of and passed on to His disciples, though He Himself did not see through the gates of hell for Himself, yet was willing to die for me and yet without that same hope.

"And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

Mark 15:34 KJV

Remember, His death was the second death reserved for unrepentant sinners, a death without hope of life, and yet He went through it not knowing whether He would rise after the fact, being willing to trade His life in heaven that we might be there. That thought boggles my mind when I am lucid about His position as Commander of the universe.

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Revelation 21:4 KJV

"...and now there doth remain faith, hope, love -- these three; and the greatest of these [is] love.

EAGERLY PURSUE and seek to acquire [this] love [make it your aim, your great quest..." 1 Cor 13:13 14:1 YLT AMP
