When man tries to be the Holy Spirit and convict people of their sins...

More spiritual abuse there...

We can call for repentance, and that is very new testament.... something you here very little of any more...

If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses.

There is a difference between persuading people to read the counsels of God, even those we believe the individual needs, and taking the prerogative of that which is the Holy Spirit's alone, that of convicting the heart, which is blasphemy when making effort to convict. Persuade/convict, a fine line? You be the judge.

[:"red"] "I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom:

preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires..." [/] 2 Timothy 4:1-3 NASB

[:"red"] "Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." [/] Romans 14:5 KJV

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

I'm really not too sure about the efforts of others to persuade, for it seems a good thing to convince another to follow what is truth. I think the rub comes in where individuals professing to serve the Lord, speak so loud that the still small voice of the Holy Spirit cannot be heard. Sometimes the evidence that it isn't the Holy Spirit using the individual, is the animosity just below the surface of the individual when they are challenged in their conclusions.

I believe that is one reason why God recommended that each individual should be persuaded in their own mind. This, if followed, allows the one being persuaded to know they themselves are the one making the decision for themselves. It also removes one reason for no later confusion or recriminations when pain results in their own lives, as a result of their own decision.

Cheers!!

Related to this idea of man taking God's place, we just plain don't talk about REALITY at all, where the REALITY and FACTS of someone's experience don't fit the preconceived notions we hold as sacrosanct concerning some key element of that experience. Especially if that experience involves the divine, the demonic, or the supernatural in any form. We insist it MUST be this or that because "this or that" fits our "theologically correct" notion of things. We deny people the right to their rightful experience and the facts of their experience precisely as they exist. We force them to "shut up" and not talk about anything that doesn't fit the preconceived framework we have about how all such things work -- and thus we never grow, never learn, never expand our thinking beyond those narrow confines for we will not admit of any new wine (reality) that cannot be crammed into those old wineskins (stale, stagnant, rigid frameworks that don't take everything into account but presume to account for everything).

There are important things out there for us to learn from one another, but without permitting ourselves to hear, learn or consider anything outside our predetermined conclusions about things, we deny ourselves the chance to do so. And then wonder why we are so stagnant. And demonize those who have tasted portions of reality we cannot readily conceive as a result, who refuse to just shut up and play along down to our level.

Or, do they present the message (plant the seeds), and allow the Holy Spirit to conivict the heart, (harest the sold)?
