Great article!!

By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near. {5T 451.1}

I wonder who Stephen Chavez would have been 400 years ago and what type of human being he would have been. For that matter who would any on this forum have been? Being raised in a culture where what he is condemning was simply life.

Take the United States, for example. The roots of this “noble experiment” are now more than 400 years old. And for most of us, the earliest and therefore most enduring impressions come from stories told by White/Eurocentric writers and scholars, telling the story from their perspective: that White people brought civilization, Christianity, and prosperity to heathens who were both uncivilized and ignorant. But is that the truth?

In some respects yes?   Those that already inhabited North and South America were not peacefully strolling thru the prairie grass hand in hand until the white settlers came and corrupted them.  They lived their lives as their culture dictated, including human sacrifices, fattening  and pampering the "lucky"  ones that would be be feeding the gods. War was a part of their culture,both the North and South America.

The settlers were stronger and better equiped and did exactly what indigenous people considered normal  and had been doing for centuries.

What of the indigenous people who already inhabited North and South America? Did they not have their own customs that were just as industrious and civilized as those who “discovered” them? Were their cultures, lifestyles, and beliefs less valuable because they didn’t come from Protestant or Roman Catholic traditions?

They certainly did. Maybe the author believes those were civilized actions. Torture of another human being is never acceptable to us but it was a way of life to many tribes prior to the white settlers. The white settlers weren't all kindness and sweetness either.

And what about the Africans brought to North America to serve as slave laborers and treated as chattel, not real persons? The Eurocentric account of the U.S. Civil War has been seen either as a campaign for states’ rights or a crusade against slavery, but hardly ever as an attempt to right the inequality between Blacks and Whites. The history of the southern United States post-Civil War is a horrific account of White supremacy, racial injustice, violence, and disenfranchisement.

Slavery has to have been one of the most hideous practices this world has ever taken part in, but hardly began 400 years ago.

The black people practiced slavery themselves, so did many other races, long before the white man. Again, an accepted practice no matter how evil. Doesn't make it right. Not for anyone to enslave another. How God will judge those from earliest times that embraced slavery will be interesting. How many C/A members being raised to believe slavery was right and proper would have been slave owners? Maybe the author , if raised 400 years ago would have been a proud slave owner

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.
