Does Scripture Condone Female Leadership in the Church?

This is a popular debate among believers in the modern day. There are two different polarized sides to this issue. There are those who believe it is perfectly fine for a woman to have a leadership role in the church; however, there are others who don’t believe it is okay for women to have leadership roles in the church. This topic can easily cause friction and arguments among believers, yet we need to remember to strive for unity. We don’t need to allow any nonessential aspects of the faith to separate us as believers.

By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near. {5T 451.1}

A lot of people don't consider this matter to be a non-essential issue. The solution is simple. People who don't accept female leadership can simply move to another congregation or denomination. Southern Baptists recently broke fellowship with a congregation or two over this issue. The LCMS does not allow women into their ministerial training program. Some denominations have principles to which they adhere. Adventism does not. If the denominational position is no female pastors, congregations which defy the denomination should be eliminated. The denomination can simply close the church-- padlock it like they did to the Burbank, California church years ago.

Yes, perhaps, but a problem is that Ellen G. White was a female leader in the SDA denomination.

One can debate whether or not she was ordained.  But, it is unlikely that any informed person would argue that she was neither female nor a leader in this denomination.

Some might say that  she never held an elected office.  But, it is clear that she was given, the same credentials, over a period of several years, that we give SDA pastors.  If we consider SDA male clergy to be SDA leaders we must consider EGW to be a SDA female leader.

I take no issue with females being pastors or holding other roles of leadership.  I do think that those serving in the local church should rotate positions.  For example, unless no one else is available to serve, no one should hold the same position for more than five consecutive years.  That is a separate issue from female ordination but somewhat related as many men do not want to give up their positions and are threatened by women.
