Season 3 Episode 4 Hypocrites

This episode begins with the disciples on their missionary journeys.  Each pair is performing miracles.  Upon return, they gather together and compare stories.  Big James expresses concern that he had power without understanding.  Moreover, he felt like a fraud because he was teaching things he doesn't follow.  The word hypocrite wasn't mentioned but that is what was being discussed.  Andrew speaks up and says he felt the same way but it didn't bother him.  What is being contrast here?

Both were obeying Jesus.  Big James felt like a hypocrite and Andrew agreed that he felt the same way.  But it didn't bother Andrew.  Why?  Because Andrew was obeying Jesus.  Andrew knew he lacked understanding but that was OK.  Andrew didn't need to understand the what and why of everything.  Simply obeying Jesus was enough for him.  Big James wanted to understand more.  Of course, the understanding would come in time.

Now this story, of this discussion between the disciples is not in the Bible.  This was simply created by the writers of The Chosen.  But it is good for thought and discussion.  Many times we do not understand why God is asking us to do something or to go someplace.  We may want understanding.  Sometimes we will never understand.  Other times understanding will come for us in the far distant future.  The issue is trust in God.  Can we trust God even when we don't understand?  Keeping the Sabbath holy may be an example.  We may not understand the reason why we should keep it holy.  We may not know why the seventh day is designated as the Sabbath.  Keeping the Sabbath may be just a matter of trusting in God to do what He asks.
