NORAD is the arm of the U.S. Air Force that is charged with protecting the United States from attacks from the Air.  This includes tracking all aircraft that enters U.S. Air Space.  Beginning in 1955, those duties have included tracking an air-born vehicle that departs the North Pole in late December and is propelled by a group of horned animals.  In service to U.S. citizens, NORAD now reports on the progress of that vehicle.  This year, beginning at 5 AM, Eastern Time, December 24, interested citizens may telephone 1-877-446-6723 to be given a report on the progress of that vehicle in its journey to the United States.  For more information, see:
