Christianity and Judaism, two of the world’s major religions, shared the same foundation—ancient Judaism. The two religions, however, eventually split in a series of partings, becoming two separate entities.

By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near. {5T 451.1}

According to Christ it was inevitable.  Judaism was setup to be the one stop shop for one's religious needs with the temple being ground zero where all the action took place. You needed your sins forgiven you headed to the temple not because God couldn't forgive sin by thought but because that was the way it had been set up.

Along comes Jesus who forgave sins "in the street" and who empowered His Disciples to forgive sins apart from making a trek to the temple with animals under each arm or paying a hefty fee to buy the animals from the temple hawkers.

There was bound to be a separation and it seems that it was on both sides.

Hebrews 10:25: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden underfoot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Christians assembling themselves together would include Christians and those becoming Christians -  it would NOT include nonbelievers. The Bible mentions that Paul indeed assembled with Jews in the Synagogues as part of his missionary work - this wouldn't have been Christian Assembly [ AKA Christian Mass ]. If one didn't go to Mass and partake of the blood [aka the cup] it was considered worse than one under the old covenant who blew off Moses.
