Global Warming, Full Quivers, and Social Irresponsibility

We are trying to switch everything over to propane as much as we can. Our local electricity is generated by natural gas which actually produces more CO2 per BTU than propane does. And propane is more efficient than electricity.

Green power sources like hydro-dams, wind turbines and solar farms are always pumping out their maximum amount of power into the grid. When the demand on the grid decreases, other sources such as coal-burning, natural gas-burning or nuclear, slow down their production and let the green sources provide for the demand that remains. So if Al Gore or any of us want to make a difference, the way to do it is decrease our total energy use. Even if we live in an area that has green electricity, like the Pacific Northwest or Brittish Columbia, if local demand drops below production, that green electricity will be sold to other areas and the CO2-producing plants will be slowed down.
