African Violet

Gail

This was a plant that I used to have. It is a drawing that I actually drew. The leaves are all combinations of just two colours, Sap Green and Payne's Grey.

I suppose that I can draw but it is a slow process for me. I have more fun laying down the colour

Exactly! I can draw (slowly), but I'd rather paint. Sometimes I eyeball the drawing, sometimes I use a grid, and for the class I just took, the teacher had us trace printouts of photos. It certainly helps a lot when your goal is how to use paints rather than how to draw!

Lately I've been using a Micron pen to scribble out drawings, then laying in washes of color. The scribble drawings certainly help loosen the tightness in my typical approach to drawing -- two or three lines where you'd normally draw one, making a conscious effort to keep from putting the lines on top of each other, TRYING to wobble on the straight lines!
