Mid Night Lecture
Ronaldmync and 2 others reacted to phkrause for a topic
Itzik was the cop in a small town in Northern Israel. One night, during his night patrol, he spotted the town drunk walking down the street looking like he was up to no good. “Hey!” said Itzik, rolling down his window. “You're not heading for any trouble, are you?” “No sir!” responded the drunkard with a big smile, “I’m heading to a lecture!” “A lecture?!” Itzik thought incredulously. “What rabbi is giving a lecture at 1 am!? This I gotta see!" After following him for a few blocks Itzik was surprised to see him going into his house. “Hey!” Itzik screamed out his window. “I thought you were heading to a lecture?!” The drunkard just held his index finger and headed inside. Sure enough within a minute Itzik heard the lecture loud and clear through the upstairs window, “WHAT IN THE WORLD WERE YOU DOING OUT ALL THIS TIME?! I'VE BEEN UP WORRYING ABOUT YOU AGAIN…”3 points -

KJV Matthew 24:14-15 14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. 15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) This is the ONLY instance where our Savior specifically referred to the book of Daniel to where He linked the main events shortly before His Second Coming: 1. Preaching of the Gospel to the whole world (v14) 2. Setting up of the abomination of desolation (v15) 3. Start of the great tribulation or time of trouble (v21) 4. Unusual celestial phenomena (v29) 5. Second Coming (v30) Had the gospel Jesus wanted preached to the world just before He comes again been proclaimed? What gospel did Christ preach? Mark 1:14-15 14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. His gospel concerns the kingdom of God. In that coming kingdom, Isaiah saw in vision (Isa 11:6-9) little children playing with lambs, leopards, lions, snakes, etc., harmful animals now, but there, all are harmless. The fact that there will be little children in that coming kingdom tells us that these little ones will be allowed entry into the heavenly portals. In Revelation, only those whose names are in the book of life will be allowed to enter there (Rev 21:27). It necessarily follows that the names of the little children in the kingdom of God are in the book of life, in harmony with the words of Jesus that the kingdom of heaven is for the little children and those like them (Matt 18:4; 19:14). But the gospel popularly being preached teaches people that only those who had believed will be saved, indirectly telling people that the writing of a person's name in the book of life can only happen after the person believes. And so, the names of little children who died before the age of reason, having not yet believed, are indirectly taught as not yet written in the book of life. It's about time that people need to be told the Gospel that Jesus wanted preached to the world before He comes again. Since we all - Christians and non-Christians - had been little children, all our names were written in the book of life, all because of God's grace given us in Christ Jesus before the world began (2 Tim 1:9). With our names in the book of life - the registry of the citizens of heaven, we are heaven-bound. We don't work our way to heaven, we are already headed there, unless a name is blotted out at death for not overcoming evil while alive (Rev 3:5). Following the proclamation of the Gospel into all the world, the abomination of desolation (AoD) will be set up. The setting up of the AoD will trigger the start of the great tribulation, so great that unless God intervenes to cut it short, no flesh shall remain alive. But for the sake of the elect who are to remain alive till He comes, the great tribulation will be cut short. And immediately after the great tribulation, the unusual celestial phenomena of a solar eclipse by day and a lunar eclipse at night will transpire. There never was an account that a combined solar and lunar eclipses on the same day had occurred since the creation of this earth. And following the meteoric swarms and the shaking of the powers of heaven, Jesus will come.2 points -

“Circumstances alter cases.” The phrase was often used by Ellen White. A positive example can be found in Testimonies for the Church, Volume Six (339:2), “While we present methods of work we cannot lay out an undeviating line in which everyone shall move, for circumstances alter cases. I received an email at my PVP website, asking for my opinion of another website: www.daniel11truth.com. The site is VERY complicated, with lots of charts and diagrams. I thought maybe some of you prophecy buffs here, could render an analysis. I'm NOT saying that I agree with this guy. Just that I'd appreciate your opinions. Maybe there is some obvious flaw that you could pick up on right away. Blessings, Rachel Cory1 point -

As the masses argue about their rhetorical differences our governments quietly continue work on their real agenda: AMERICAN AND BRITISH spies hacked into the internal computer network of the largest manufacturer of SIM cards in the world, stealing encryption keys used to protect the privacy of cellphone communications across the globe, according to top-secret documents provided to The Intercept by National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden. The hack was perpetrated by a joint unit consisting of operatives from the NSA and its British counterpart Government Communications Headquarters, or GCHQ. The breach, detailed in a secret 2010 GCHQ document, gave the surveillance agencies the potential to secretly monitor a large portion of the world’s cellular communications, including both voice and data. https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2015/02/19/great-sim-heist/1 point -

Understanding the freedom we have on the Sabbath...
JoeMo reacted to Scuba for a topic
Here are just a few of the man made rules and regulations that were put on the Sabbath through a misinterpretation of Scripture or just an all out mission to destroy the joy and delight of Sabbath keeping. 1. Cooking on the Sabbath is forbidden. 2. Swimming or walking too far on the Sabbath is forbidden. 3. Healing on the Sabbath is wrong. 4. Work of any kind for any reason is forbidden on the Sabbath. 5. Buying anything on the Sabbath is forbidden. 6. Going out to eat on the Sabbath is forbidden. 7. Setting up or Cleaning up on the Sabbath is forbidden. 8. Playing a game on the Sabbath is forbidden. 9. Turning on a light on the Sabbath is forbidden. 10. Using an elevator on the Sabbath is forbidden. 11. Watching TV on the Sabbath is forbidden. 12. Using the computer on the Sabbath is forbidden. These are just a few of the man made rules and regulations that were put on the Sabbath as to not violate the Law. None of these came from God nor were any of these taught or enforced by Jesus. What we are taught in the New Covenant is not that the Sabbath is done away with or changed to another day, but rather, we are taught not to judge anyone in what they do on the Sabbath to make the Sabbath a joy and a delight or if they are tending to needs that come up on the Sabbath. There is nothing worst than a ritualistic, legalistic Sabbath keeper who makes keeping the Sabbath more important then the one who God created the Sabbath for. Let us gather in fellowship every Sabbath to love God and one another. Let us work to make the Sabbath a joy and a delight for our friends and families in the Lord. In this we look forward to eternity and fellowship in the kingdom of God.1 point -

by contrast, did the LDS church get discussed extensively by the media when Mitt Romney was running for office? I may be wrong, but to my recollection, the LDS religion wasn't much of an issue... why would religion be more of an issue for Dr Carson than it was for Mitt Romney? Would you say anything.....
Igakusei reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
An article that everyone should read. However, be prepared. It will emotionally touch you. After 20 years of working in a hospital, I have come to some conclusions: 1) Life is quality, not quantity. 2) Medical science can often postpone death. But, when the body commits itself to dying, medical science cannot prevent death. The body always wins that battle. 3) So-called cost benefit analysis is much more than financial. Treatments may have pain and side effects. Is that cost worth the expected benefit? NOTE: We have such treatments that may only postpone death for a few days. 4) Individuals have to make their own decisions related to quality of life. I have seen total care patients come into our hospital who were happy with the life that they were living and content. Not my choice, but it was theirs. 5) Hospice care does increase the quality of one's life prior to their death. But, hospice care is a developing field. One should exercise as much choice in the selection of hospice care as one exercises in the selection of their physician. 6) Yes, God is powerful. Yes, I have seen changes that are beyond the power of science to explain. But, God expects us to use the minds that we have been given. Death is a reality that all of us have an obligation to face and to prepare for. That includes preparation of wills that are current and reflect our wishes. It includes conversations with our relatives as to our wishes as we near the end of our life. It includes personal understanding of the limits of medical science and the consequences of our decisions. It includes preparation of our family members for our eventual death and their life that will continue after we die. This all involves conversations. NOTE: Later today my wife and I will sign updated wills and following that we will communicate with our sons specifics as to what we have done and our wishes. My wife and I are in great health. But, due to an age difference, It is expected that she will live for years after I die. We have to plan for that. While my health is great, I may go blind, or have greatly reduced vision, prior to my death. That is a reality that we have to deal with. Yes, I have the best of care. We will do whatever is reasonable to preserve my eyesight. But, we will deal with reality. That reality, in total is that the longer I live the less functional my body will become. I may run a 10 K race. But, that does not mean that I can ever run a marathon. 7) Time is limited for all of us. But, in recognizing that we can set goals that we want to accomplish during the time that we have. We can accomplish those. I tell people who have been given X number of months to live that they have been given a blessing that many people do not have. They can set their goals and accomplish them. If they have always wanted to visit someplace, do it now while they can. If they need to establish a relationship with someone, do it now. Do what needs to be done so that one can die without regrets. 8) People like me want control of their lives. Preparation for death involved accepting that one cannot control everything. That includes giving information, with consequent control, of some things to others. In preparing the wills that we will sign today, we have had extended conversations with a son whom we have asked to step in and take charge after our deaths. This includes an honest sharing of what our wishes are. 9) Preparation for death includes an understanding of the consequences of medical decisions that must be made. What does it mean to be on a ventilator? How long does one want to be on such before one is removed. What does it mean to open a human chest and perform cardiac surgery? NOTE: I have personally witnessed the recovery period of a very elderly CABG patient. He actually spent several months in a NHCU. Well folks, the article touched me. I hope my thoughts, above, have stimulated your thinking and your preparation for your death.1 point -

And yet people are perfectly willing to load up on FaceBook will all kinds of data, Twitter, dating sites and still complain about what govs do for National Security. Maybe the gov should just have full time analysts monitoring those sites.....I forgot, they already do! Data is floating out in open spaces of our world, and off into space, does anyone not understand that what leaves a persons lips is available for someone to hear and use? Yes, privacy is being limited. The real question to be asked is, Does all this surveillance increase our security as a nation? Might depend on who you ask. Are people willing to give up some personal security for peace and security? I would say yes based on what social media experts say about the everyday use of such. One can not vomit out all the details of their daily life and then expect no one to collect it!! My thoughts...1 point -

April 2, 2013 Breath and Spirit "Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein." (Isaiah 42:5) God the LORD (Elohim Jehovah) is here identified as the Creator and organizer of all the universe, the heavens, and the earth, and all things therein. In context, He is also identifying Himself as the One sending forth "my servant" to be given as "a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles" (Isaiah 42:1, 6), the coming Messiah of Israel. He who does all these things also gives every person born both breath and spirit. The "breath" (Hebrew neshumah) is that "breath of life" which God breathed into Adam's nostrils when He created him at the beginning. Even those who do not believe in God must depend on Him for their very breath, since "he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things." Therefore, He is "not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:25, 27-28). He also gives each person a spirit (Hebrew ruach), a word used first of all in reference to the "Spirit of God" (Genesis 1:2). It is this attribute in particular that constitutes the created "image of God" in man (Genesis 1:27). The higher land animals all possess "the breath of life," along with man (Genesis 7:22), but only men and women are created in the image of God, each with an eternal spirit. Man's breath and spirit are closely related, and sometimes the words are used almost interchangeably. When the breath departs from a person's body at death, the spirit also departs with it, but the latter "shall return unto God who gave it" (Ecclesiastes 12:7). The breath also will be activated again on the coming resurrection day. HMM1 point
