Are we still suspicious towards the religious right?
Lester and one other reacted to GayatfootofCross for a topic
In my SDA lifetime all i ever known was Right wing Conservative SDA's. Face to Face. To this very day. The internet has opened up a world to me of SDA's who all don't prescribe to this oppressive false pic exclusive God. Strangers yet Family. I wonder if God has kept me alive just to see this.It has worked miracles on my heart. To See God differently and people as well. It has freed me and decompressed my anxiety since i horrifically discovered i was gay at 12. but sadly this current video is very represented of the SDA's i grew up with. And pretty much hang around with at church currently. There are people at my church who feel differently (of course)..but not completely..gays are still second class citizens according to their voting record and over all politics. baby steps baby steps Maybe if i went to larger churches in larger cities ..I would have been exposed to what God really thinks of the likes of me ..face to face with others!. God calls me to love on and serve both sides of the aisle like my very own. Ignore Rachel Maddow and just listen to this guy introducing THREE GOP Candidates November 2015. Very Right Wing of the Day from where I stand. A content blessed loved Gay Christian with God in my heart and in my face. And I don't deserve any of it. Are we still suspicious towards the religious right?
Lester and one other reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
1) Are you personally sceptical towards the religious right, in other words, the tendency to use the political process to advance a moral/religious agenda? Do you personally support the separation of church and state, or would you like to see more religion in government? GM: I support the separation of church and State. As such, I believe that there are some issues that rightfully belong to the Church and it is the Church, not government, that should convince people. An example of this is the issue of same-sex marriage. From the Biblical standpoint, I believe that marriage should be between a male and a female. But, in our society, marriage has a number of rights. This places marriage in the area of a civil right. From that standpoint, I believe that same-sex couples should have the right to marry. I am personally skeptical of the religious right and a potential for them to attempt to force their religious views on others. 2) How do you perceive the opinion of your fellow adventists concerning the religious right? Are they supportive of their goals, or are they mostly suspicious? What is the “vibe” in your local church and among your friends? Are those who oppose the religious right still a majority? GM: Many SDAs are supportive of the religious right. Many are not.2 points -
I'm now a licensed driver!
Kevin H reacted to Jessie-Jess for a topic
Finally, I have my driver's license! It's amazing! Praise God! He protected us on the way there, provided the funds needed, and even provided the practice opportunities and people to help, a lot of practice within the last few years, but despite all that practice, I cannot boast of any special skills or training, for I made mistakes during the car inspection, it seemed at first and second as though the test would not even happen, and the test was so short I thought I might have failed. Oh--the suspense! But praise God! When they took my picture, that's when I was sure. God is so good. God is so good. I'm so happy! Praise God!1 point -

Who is the One New Man Created on the Cross?
8thdaypriest reacted to pnattmbtc for a topic
Not very likely. People talk about things which are important to them. Especially in discussion forums. Look at what people talk about. It's about areas they are interested, areas that are important to them. Not in a personal way. Only corporately. That's all I've seen you talk about. Again, not in any personal way. You can ask what others think to get another opinion besides mine. This seems just semantics to me. What you mean by "in Christ" is different than what anyone else means, so you're talking about something different than everyone else is. I have no idea what made this important to you. If you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, I cannot imagine what you entice you talk about something you can't even explain what it means in place of that. You talk about at the cross our being attached to the body of Christ, and you can't even explain what that means. Surely, without question, talking about tangible, meaningful things, such as the love of God which would lead Him to sacrifice His Son, or the love of Christ, that would lead Him to give Himself, and the fact that this Christ is alive today and wants to dwell in our hearts trumps an idea whose meaning isn't even explainable. I think you're idea is confused. Here are some reasons why: 1.The idea comes from Jones and Waggoner, yet you seem not to know what they believed, and your idea is different from theirs, but we have direct endorsements from a prophet, over 1000 of them, proclaiming the truth of their message as light from heaven. Why not study this light and proclaim it? 2.It doesn't agree with what Ellen White has presented either. 3.It doesn't agree with Scripture, which you youself have recognized, by saying that John had to be "corrected". This is most damning of evidences, that your own theory leads you yourself to conclude that Scripture is an error. I can't imagine how you could think that such a theory could be coming from God. I don't understand why you don't see this. Surely God wouldn't give us a message from His Word that leads us to proclaim that Gospel writers He inspired need to be "corrected" How could this possibly be the "pure gospel"? 4.You can't explain what the language you use mean. You want us to believe something which is indistinguishable from gibberish. The "pure gospel" should be explainable is words that are simple, easy to understand, that make sense, otherwise it's just gibberish (i.e. meaningless words; that's what these are if you cannot explain their meaning). What does "at the cross God attached us to the body of Christ" mean? You can't say. Yet that which I believe to be the pure Gospel, Jesus' words "when you've seen Me, you've seen the Father" is easy to understand and explain in other words. 5.You can't explain why this should be important. What I mean is, what difference does it make? Why would God care about this? Why would God want us to believe this? Why would this be important to God? I can only think of one thing you've said along these lines, which is that we shouldn't be taking credit for what God has done. I agree completely, 100%, with your sentiment here, but there are other ways of arriving at this point which do not require that we believe that what's really important is what God does with objects which don't exist. What does this have to do with God's character? *That's* what's really important. When you can present a message which makes clear how great God is, *then* you'll have a message which can accomplish what you're looking for.1 point -

8thdaypriest reacted to Wingnut for a topic
One CANNOT know God through knowing the creation (rambles through nature). One knows Christ by having a personal relationship with Him. This is no philosophical knowledge. Samie, nothing you say will distract me from the fact that you don't see a personal relationship with Christ as ESSENTIAL. Anything else is bulk filler.1 point -
Are we still suspicious towards the religious right?
Gail reacted to Kevin H for a topic
Maybe not exactly with all the details that could have happened in the 1800s and very likely not according to the traditions but yes I see the basic principles: That Catholics and Protestants will use the philosophy of existentialism (Spiritualism: The idea of truth proceeds from you and your experience and there is no right or wrong except for what is right or wrong for you) or the beast (Having others make decisions for you), to unify the world for the merchants of the earth (the corporations).1 point -

Sojourner: Yes we need to fight pornography and not let it flood our streets like an open sewer However Seventh-day Adventists support birth-control. In a very hard to find book (because too many Adventists did not like it) titled something like "An Appeal to Mothers" by Mrs. White she encouraged birth-control. We can hate abortion but hate the underground abortion clinics and home made attempts that leave young girls dead even more. We can fight abortion on a grass roots level. Reaching out to people and helping them so that they know they have better choices than abortion. Keep abortion legal but obsolete.1 point -

The far right does concern me. Although I have always considered myself conservative, the new right includes too much religious convictions into government politics. As a friend suggested, cant we be anti-abortion but pro- choice legally? Can I desire less government control and yet understand the value othes have for society care for the less fortunate? (Matthew 25 even speaks to this!). And how does right to have a gun and pro-Israel become the only Christian viewpoint? And is anti-Muslim a Christian virtue?. 2). I think many Adventists are caught up in the fundamentalist/rightwing movement politically. It seems right!.1 point -

God sees everyone as unrighteous. Not that much difference between one sinner and another. We are all wretched before the Holiness of God. I dont think we need to be spending our strength laying into each other. Even that angels of heaven do not rail satan for all his evil. And this is after they saw how he hated the pure Son of God and went about to murder him, causing all heaven to lose every sympathy for him. It is not Godly to attack and accuse the guilty. Those very ones we despise God is seeking to lift up and save, and restore. I don't think mud slinging is of much value, especially on the guilty.1 point -

I'll bet we all (including Ben Carson) have done and said things that later had unintended bad consequences. I believe that many of the things people do or say that turn out badly are done unintentionally. I know that I have hurt some people very badly by stupid but unintended actions and words. I try to learn from those things. Yeah; Ben has done some stupid things in his past; but it sure seems to me that he learned from those mistakes; and is open to continue learning. I'm not saying he's my pick for president; but in my eyes he is an honorable man worthy of my respect and admiration.1 point -

Stinsonmarri, his second book THINK BIG he mentioned a lot of people at the Hospital, it was like name dropping for them because they help him, and had to work extra weekends etc because he was away so much. That was his worst book, and that is why. Am sure he learned a lesson on that. You sound very spiteful in your tone to him, I doubt if you meant to come across that way.1 point -

It is amazing how judgemental the media, and several in adventist become, not because of the significant difference he has made, but rather that he may not of checked out sources further on something he was informed of.. Why would someone go back years to find any little statement he made, which may not be credible? US politics, just gets more entertaining when you are sitting on the sidelines watching..1 point -

I think there is a thread for that - but this one is about "What is Seventh-day Adventist". But since you mention it. 1. What years do you think the pyramids were built? 2. What year do think the world wide flood happened? 3. How much time after the flood - did it take to start building the pyramids in your view? 4. What years do you think Joseph was ruling in Egypt? I am pretty certain that Ben Carson has his ideas on those details - what are your thoughts?1 point -
