Speaking of Identity Theft

1) My credit card has been compromised several times. In 2014 it was replaced three (3) times. 2) My bank has telephoned me several times to ask if an attempted charge was valid. Some were. Others were not. Out of this I have learned to telephone the bank before I traveled and inform them of the dates and areas to which I would be traveling. 3) I now have a chip card and so far it has not been compromised. 4) Debit card: I prefer not to use mine. My entire account can be cleared out. Federal law does not give the protections for a debit card that Federal law provides for a credit card. Your bank may (?) provide you with the same protections, but it is not required to do so. My bank provided substantial fraud protections for a debit card, but that is simply their choice.2 points -

I once had a bank fraud investigator contact me to verify my identity because someone had applied for credit at the bank in my name. I don't remember if it was a loan or a credit card. But after a number of significantly probing questions the investigator was satisfied that her. Suspicions of attempted ID theft had occurred she disclosed the info that had been used for the application. It was flagged because it was somewhat dated, leaving a gap in current info. As nearly as We could determine it was quite probably compromised personnel info from a previous employer. Not sure if it was illegally accessing files or old files not properly disposed of. This was before they would have been electronic and I suspected that the files had not been shredded and the crook got them dumpster diving. Ever since I have been a compulsive shredder of anything that has any personal info.2 points -

Reminds me of a story I heard or read recently of a person, fairly well known in Adventist circles that had an accident after which she was attended to by several uniformed emergency response "people" that arrived on the scene almost immediately afterwards and stayed with her until an ambulance arrived. They left quickly when the ambulance attendants came to her so she was not able to thank them. When later she stopped at the fire and rescue department to thank everyone for helping her, she especially wanted to thank those men who had syed with her. When she described them and the uniforms they were wearing she was told that no fire and rescue personnel wore such uniforms.2 points -

They will often look and sound like practicing Adventists, often they have not attended Church for years, do not support it with Tithe and Offerings. Often belong to an 'offshoot', for lack of a better word, that proclaim that the Church is Babylon and we are to come out of it and join them, which usually means send the Lord's Tithe to them. It is not unusually for them to take early statements by EGW, and not reflect what she grew and was shown later on in life. The condemn most leadership today, and will cause discouragement to as many as they can, in the name of 'love'.1 point -

"Those who are really seeking to perfect Christian character will never indulge the thought that they are sinless." SL 7. "We feel sad to see professed Christians led astray by the false and betwitching theory that they are perfect, because it is so difficult to undeceive them and lead them into the right path." SL 12 _________________ These statements are needed and they are priceless but they do not infer that it is impossible for one to live a righteous life. If we keep reading from SL, p.12 and 13, we read the following words which shed more light on the subject: "A healthy man, who is able to attend to the vocations of life and who goes forth day after day to his labor with buoyant spirits and with a healthy current of blood flowing through his veins, does not call attention of every one he meets to his soundness of body. Health and vigor are the natural conditions of his life, and therefore he is scarcely conscious that he is in the enjoyment of such a boon. Thus it is with the truly righteous man." SL 12,13. In other words, the overcomer (Rom.8:37) will be the last to parade his goodness for "The truly righteous man is unconscious of his goodness and piety. Religious principle has become the spring of his life and conduct, and it is just as natural for him to bear the fruits of the Spirit as for the fig tree to bear figs or for the rosebush to yield roses... His life is hid with Christ in God, yet he does not boast of this, nor seem conscious of it." SL 13. Like the apostle Paul, the truly righteous man will always confess himself to be as the "chief of sinners" (1 Tim.1:15) and yet this man is overcoming through Christ by the Spirit. This is the spirit of the Gospel.1 point -

When Jesus said, "This is my body", He meant that the Passover bread was to be the SYMBOL of His body, and the Passover wine (cup of redemption) was to be the SYMBOL of His blood. Henceforth, when a believer partook of these emblems, he would "show the Lord's death". He would demonstrate his belief in what Christ did. Catholics take the SYMBOL and declare it REAL. The bread actually becomes the dead flesh of Jesus, and the wine actually becomes His blood. I mention this as a parallel to what Samie and Robert are teaching. Robert says that every human being ACTUALLY - in reality - DIED when Jesus died. And because they died, they paid the penalty (death) for their own sins. Jesus metaphysically incorporated every human being into Himself, so they could all pay the death penalty for their sins. And because they were "in Christ" when He died, they all rose from the dead when Jesus was resurrected by His Father. I believe that Jesus won the right to REPRESENT humankind, to stand in place of humankind. He did not actually BECOME all of humankind. Other words used for this same principle are "bought with a price" and "paid the redemption price" for us. Jesus won the right to DOMINION over the entire earth. (He won this by His perfect obedience of the Law.) He thus won the right to represent the entire human race before the throne of God (or any individual within the human race). Just because Jesus "paid the price" for you, does not guarantee that Christ will finally bring you into His forever kingdom. Why - because Christ will not force anyone into His kingdom. He will retain for His kingdom only those who knowingly consent through belief in Christ as Savior and submission to Christ as King.1 point -

To explain quantum mechanics as to angelic travel would require me to violate the rule for this thread and quote from others as the explaination is above my level. Briefly: Quantum Mechanics experiments have demonstrated that something traveling from point A to point B can instantly have traveled to point C and be in both places at the same moment of time, to include instant travel.1 point -

Jessie-Jess: I can accept the fact that you are offended by the opening post. But, if you are offended, you probably should not be reading this thread. Borderline obscene: I will not argue the reality of what apparently rests in your mind. But, that mind is yours. I will suggest that few adults living in our society today, who are in touch with the real world would agree with you. Inappropriate: This is probably the subject level of a High School biology class. Sexuality issues are a big issue today. People in touch with the time want to know. Recently I attended a Sabbath afternoon meeting in large SDA Church. A physician spoke and he said much more than has been said here. He presented information regarding the genetic make-up of people that was new to me. Did you know that a single person could have some organs in their body that have the typical female--double X chromosome--make up while other organs in their body have the typical male--XY Chromosome--make up. IOW, a single person may have heart cells that show a female makeup and a brain that shows male makeup. Yes, this is true. This type of person results when a male and a female, fertilized egg fuses together into one person, rather than developing into two fraternal twins. By the way, the audience had people in attendance who were younger than 18 years of age. By the way, Iearned stuff that I had not previously known from that meeting. Erotic, nothing in the OP was erotic. I will say: The Gospel deals with life as we experience it in our humanity. The gospel must speak to people today in the terms of what society is about today. Such discussions and posts are reality and a valid part of the Christian life.1 point -

I like this topic too. The wife of our minister Branca, was told by the automobile driver behind her that when Branca was in a disastrous accident that she saw three angels flying over her car as it rolled and tumbled down a ravine. That experience affected not only her but those of us who heard about it. I will never forget it as long as I live.1 point -

One nice thing I've found is that the IRS really isn't out to get the taxpayers. At least, not the IRS people I've been working with. They've even assigned me a taxpayer advocate who's working with me as a liason between me and the IRS. She's employed by the Federal Government and NOT the IRS. I should have last year's issues resolved by the end of this month. Whew.1 point -

I feel that sharing my name and photo is almost as bad as sharing other personal info such as birthday, place of birth, SSN, etc. Using a handle and avatar reduces the chance of turning up on someone's search engine, perhaps someone with no good intentions. I tend to use a fake birthday if one is needed to join a group, and avoid publishing any personal info in a social setting just to reduce the possibility of identity theft, which my name and photo might make easier. Although I did share a photo of myself in a group setting here in CA, but it's not a great picture.1 point -

~ I'd Rather See A Sermon ~ By: Edgar A. Guest I'd rather see a sermon than hear one any day; I'd rather one should walk with me than merely tell the way. The eye's a better pupil and more willing than the ear, Fine counsel is confusing, but example's always clear; And the best of all preachers are the men who live their creeds, For to see good put in action is what everybody needs. I soon can learn to do it if you'll let me see it done; I can watch your hands in action, but your tongue too fast may run. And the lecture you deliver may be very wise and true, But I'd rather get my lessons by observing what you do; For I might misunderstand you and the high advice you give, But there's no misunderstanding how you act and how you live. o to be a Wordsmith!1 point -

I can't tell you what lifestyle is right. Nor can you. What I do know is a homosexual lifestyle is wrong Period, always wrong or the bible cannot be trusted. Just as adultery is always wrong. There is a vast difference between believing something to be wrong and dictating to someone how they should live their life. Two very good friends of mine happen to be a lesbian couple. I don't have the slightest desire to dictate how they should live their lives as they don't try to dictate mine. It is a friendship that would never have lasted had either of us been forced to condone, agree or celebrate the lifestyle of the other. Our personal beliefs on that was settled in the beginning and there isn't any reason to keep bringing it up or beating each other over the head with our beliefs. They are great women who live a lifestyle that I strongly disagree with. But I am not required to agree or accept it as just another choice. Believing this to be wrong is not lording it over anyone. Just as believing the drunk, thief, gossip or liar is wrong is lording it over those that live that life. Perhaps the views of those that support this lifestyle feel called upon to lord it over me? Nah couldn't be,could it. The gay/lesbian lifestyle is the only one it seems that is elevated to a special place for special consideration? How you or GFC live your life is your business until you tell me I have to accept it as something special or I am lording it over someone. Interesting that you will identify yourself only as guest1 point -

Concerning any issue there will always be the isolated but what if? The bible is quite clear.... and defraud. You do this even to your brethren. 9Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.… Nowhere in that verse does it place any sin in the favored position of "well this isn't as bad as the other sins that are listed. Just flip this around. It is interesting that as many times as the sin of gossip, hypocrisy has come up that never have I read,"well that isn't as bad as a homosexual lifestyle". Gossip is soundly judged and condemned by the "do not judge crowd". They of course know what the "worse sin" is. Nor is there at times the flippant response that is frequently given here concerning the homosexual lifestyle.A response of "there are usually two sides to every story and sometimes three" is never applied to the numerous complaints of persecution when it concerns the gay/lesbian agenda. Why not? If perhaps we only need a little more study to determine that the homosexual lifestyle is not wrong, would a little further study show same for liars and gossips? Nowhere has anyone indicated or stated that gays/lesbians should be banned from church, shunned or treated any differently by those opposed to legalizing gay marriage.Yet that is always brought up as an indictment against those that disagree with the gay agenda, as if that has been said. Homosexuality does not deserve a special protected position . No matter how you slice and dice it,it remains wrong. Not more wrong than any other sin, just plain wrong1 point -

It isn't a question of being uncomfortable. There never has been a time of a perfect church with perfect members. Nor are all stories true of this relentless persecution by these terrible pretend christians sitting in the pew. And at times those that feel so persecuted have a responsibility in that because of their own behavior There is little doubt that LGBTIQQAA have certainly been the object of scorn when they should not have been. So have people that look funny from a birth defect, morbid obesity, poor in ragged clothes or a multitude of reasons. That is not a reason to celebrate the cause of their torment. Yet the gay/lesbian lifestyle is cause to do just that. There isn't any cause to beat them over the head with bible verses when they walk in the door. Nor is there cause to wink at it because you know there are worse sins. It isn't your call to determine which sin is worse. A gay lifestyle repented of is not "as bad" as what some may see as unrepented minor sins. Both will cost you eternal life if not repented of. If someone has the "unchristian" belief that this lifestyle is just plain wrong and are opposed to legalizing gay marriage they are somehow unfeeling, unchristian, self righteous bigots. LGBTIQQAA,celibate or not should not be treated any differently than the most respected member of the congregation or the man in the back pew nursing a hangover from a fri night bender. Somehow it is the evil SDA church vs the ever so deserving LGBTIQQAA. They are no more or less deserving than anyone else. Nor should the lifestyle be celebrated. Except maybe by some of you that believe a little more study will show it really isn't wrong. Or prohibition of this lifestyle really meant only in certain circumstances.1 point -

Wolves in sheep's clothing are the many fleecing pastors that are merchandising the Word of God and the gospel with smooth things and a false gospel saved in sin! Some of these are living extremely high on the "hog" for their own aggrandizement. They may just be living the only "heaven" they will ever have! Note these verses well, Isa 30:8 ¶ Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever: Isa 30:9 That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: Isa 30:10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: Isa 30:11 Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us. Isa 30:12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon: Isa 30:13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant. Mt 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. Lu 11:35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. Lu 21:8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. Ac 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. Ro 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. 1Co 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.1 point
