  1. When I say we have been through this drill before, I was speaking of going through false "prophetic" predictions that such and such president will be the last, or this pope will be the last, or Jesus will definitely come after such and happens or will come on this date.... The associations and connect the dots approach I am reading here is looking an awful lot like reading an astrology horoscope.

    Despite or Because?

I know when i spend more time in meditation and prayer, and letting jesus touch my thinking and my motives... that i am different... and when i don't my thorns cut those around me easily too easily. i need a miracle to be a representative of heaven. am i about me, or am I about Jesus, this is the question..... this is a hurting dying world in need desperately in need of the life giving kindness, patience, mercy... and strength of Jesus. i am selfish, deeply selfish and that is all those around me will read written upon my being... unless heaven writes something better.

    MASS MAILING OF GREAT CONTROVERSY

The Biblical teaching is that one must be fed spiritual milk prior to being fed meat. In human life, to feed a young baby solid food is clearly going to lead to problems, potentially both then and in future life. Also in human life one should normally be proficient in algebra prior to attempting to learn calculus. The same is true in our spiritual life. To confront a person with spiritual truth before they are at a spiritual level that allows them to receive it can do spiritual damage. Both postage and printing is not free. To do a mass mailing of a book that probably most will simply throw away is to waste resources that could be better used to bring people to Christ. Tell me, of what spiritual value is it for one to believe in the actual state of the dead, believe that the Catholic church should not call priests Holy Father and to believe that the 7th day is the Sabbath, if that person who so believes is not converted to Christ. While there may be exceptions, THE GREAT CONTROVERSEY is probably not the best tool to bring people to Christ. The overall human responsibility to bring people to Christ in a geographic area rests with congregations and their members and the administrative divisions of the organized church that governs that geographic area. All to often those who do mass mailing of THE GREAT CONTROVERSEY do not coordinate with those who are responsible. They seek to promote their agenda--mail GC. They fail to ask what is most needed. They are not around to provide follow-up to any interests who may be developed. They may need follow-up responses to people who are not prepared to provide such. When people fail to coordinate more harm may be done than actual good.

Please stop creating new threads about gays

Thank heavens you spoke up about this glaring problem. Gayguy' riding his agenda on his one-trick-pony has gone on way far too long. I had prayed for this place to come back to more harmony in christian-adventist dialogue and depart from all this fanfare for the support of a topic whose fundament is based on sin. Let's please follow JoeMo's advice and not respond to the existing threads on the homo topics. (feeling relief in being able to express what has been pent up in me.)

    The Creative Mind: Intuition

It was interesting to note that too much analytical thinking stifles intuition and creativity. I interpret this as learning so much music theory that the spontaneity and embellishments that make for individual style get lost. It is like the spirit getting lost in the letter.

    Despite or Because?

It's not a direct quote, but I'll understand if it breaks the rules here and the thread is deleted. I often hear comments like "He's a nasty piece of work, although he's a Christian". I hear it so often, though, that I feel as though the automatic assumption that being a Christian means being a good or nice person no longer really holds. Of course, a huge number of Christians are good and/or nice. But the automatic assumption...? I'm not so sure. (This is not about pointing fingers at others: I'm all too aware three point back at me. As a Christian, am *I* good and nice?)

I agree with your post Stan, but yet I am puzzled by words of posts agreeing with you while getting in another dig at the person and subject. I guess it all depends on each persons perspective on the subject.

    The Creative Mind: Intuition

I would say it is part of the brains ability. People develop in different ways over time and utilize the brain power they were born with. Intuition is making decisions quickly based knowing rather than exploring and consciously needing to understand what is the correct decision. It could also be that the individual is totally aware and absorbing all information that may have preceded the event taking place.

what in Daniel connects to Obama's term as America's final president?

Right, CoAspen. I too have been around since the days of the Shepherds Rod people, and all their time-setting. I believe if hch has all this time on his hands he must be retired. Doing crossword puzzles is good enough for my mental stimulation. I never try to reinvent the wheel, or recalculate the 1260 years prophecy, or anything to that effect. In fact, when I was in elementary (church) school, we were taught that the "falling of the stars" took place on a certain date [my memory escapes me now as to just which date it was, but I think it was in 1833], and the "dark day" also took place on a certain date --when the cows came home at noon, thinking night had fallen-- but now I've outlived those theories. There have been MANY nights when "stars" have fallen -- meteor showers it's called nowadays. Jesus' coming has been delayed--or at least it didn't happen on man's timetable. This doesn't shake my faith in our message; it only proves to me that trying to set dates based on earthly events will never prove useful. Our Lord will return when God is ready for that to occur; not before. All I need do is stay close to Him, for He has promised that He will save everyone who does not actively resist. My time is better spent studying the Scriptures, which I've only just recently started doing on the blueletterbible.org website (using the NASB translation there). This is exciting to me. I don't need time-setting to keep me involved with Christ and His love for each of us.

    God of the Second Chance

Nine-year-old Braun lived in a little village not far from London. Braun’s parents were agnostics, but they felt that at least once in his life, he ought to go to church. So they dressed him up in his little black suit and black bow tie and asked the governess to take him. Read article here:http://www.signstimes.com/?p=article&a=40054018225.739

We are connected! Nothing should sever the ties that has been forming here. Perhaps ....with a better Spirit by all. meanwhile.. How about those Dolphins.. huh?

    MASS MAILING OF GREAT CONTROVERSY

I love the book Great Controversy. However she wrote it to try to present truth in her culture and she had some worries about how she was treating the Papacy and the difficulty of maintaining the balance between the historical criticisms we have of the Papacy and to not sound anti-Catholic. I have a sneaking suspicion that those who are doing massive mailings of the Great Controversy are not as much interested in Mrs. White's message that she brought too the book as wanting to re-create the culture where it was written. They are more focused on the Pope and expecting us to return to the 5th head, instead of the actual issues of the Great Controversy; the 3 deceptions of Satan, the 3 aspects of the trinity, liberty of conscience threatened; The papacy is just an illustration of one of the two ways Satan tries to trip us up: one way is external control psychology, where others try to force their beliefs upon us, and spiritualism where there is no right or wrong except for what's right or wrong in your experience. Then finally how does God destroy the wicked. People need to hear that message. People who are mailing out the Great Controversy need to hear that message as well. That is why I keep saying that probably a good introduction to Mrs. White would be if we could put together a booklet with "Why was sin Permitted" and "The Origin of Evil" (These two chapters cover the same information, one early in Mrs. White's ministry and has a rawness that is fresh and alive. The other written later and is more refined. The early raw work and the later refined work both have strengths and weaknesses that complement each other) and "It is Finished" probably the best thing that ever came from Mrs. White's pen. If we were going to mass mail one of her completed books, why not the Desire of Ages? Is it because they would rather put down the Pope then to bow to the beauty of Jesus?

  15. Sorry folks...but I am getting older and weaker....waiting for this strings of texts and quotes to make sense to me. I have been around since the days of Shepherds Rod and that was their way of 'predicting'. Many others have tried to do the same thing. That is simply the way conspiracies try to work their magic, never quite making a definitive point but weaving it all together hoping someone/s will do it for them. It leaves the predicter a way out when nothing happens according to their prediction. It continues on until with more agenda until they make a fatal mistake of being exact, much like the SR and others. Mount Carmel...remember that one?

    DJD406 - Naked Pride

Read More Daily Jesus Scripture: Colossians 2:12-13 Starting Question: How do you think Naaman felt when his men said they thought it would be easy to do what the prophet asked? What was making it difficult? What would make it easy? Naked Pride ** Continued from Facing Yourself yesterday ** Naaman’s men were right. If Elisha had asked Naaman to bring him the heads of 100 enemies of Israel, he would have willingly done it. Such a task is befitting of a great general. But to wash? It was so menial. It wasn’t as if Naaman hadn’t tried to wash the spots off. He had spent countless hours furiously picking, scraping and washing his sores—hoping. But to no avail. Could the prophet’s promise really be possible? Elisha’s message had been, “Go and wash yourself seven times in the Jordan River. Then your skin will be restored . . .” What if? What if his men were right? What if he was just being proud and obstinate? What if the prophet’s words were true? What if he washed and it worked? It sounded so simple—too simple, in fact. The words of his men exposed to him the truth of his feelings. He was offended by the Prophet, not so much by the treatment at the door, but by the treatment of his pride. He was a man of substance. Not a dirty vagabond. He may have leprosy, but he wasn’t about to act dirty. He came to pay for a proper healing, not be told to go have a bath. It was unthinkable. Or, was it? Naaman, broken by the realisation of his pride, rode off the path to the river’s edge. During his angry tirade, he had been riding along the river, forcing himself to ignore its presence. Only now, in his humbled state, did he consider it for what it really was—a baptismal font able to purify him from his leprosy and perhaps even more. At the water’s edge, Naaman slowly removed his armor, his clothes and his pride. His men were shocked to see the extent of his illness—he was covered in the marks of leprosy. Naaman walked into the deepest part of the river and lowered himself completely under. Immediately he stood to his full height, examining the sores on his body. They were still there. Again he lowered himself. Again no change. When he came up the seventh time, the glimmer of healthy white skin captured his gaze. He ran his hands over his entire body, searching for any remnant of the hated disease. There was none. He was spotless! Naaman whooped with joy, and shouted to his men, “It worked! I am healed!” ** Continued in New Man tomorrow ** Reflection Question: While baptism is a public symbol of the personal commitment we have made to Jesus, it is also much more. Have a look at these verses. What blessings come with baptism? How does baptism change a person’s nature? Prayer time: Before you pray together, ask: What would you like to say to Jesus today?View the full article

  17. That may be equally true regarding your response to my post. I never imagined that the counterfeit "always comes before" but when Satan understands God's plan he prepares a counterfeit that is designed to deceive God's people before they can understand and accept the true.

  19. There can be no counterfeit, beforehand. Not until the genuine article is first revealed (either in actuality or by prior description) can the counterfeit be developed and presented. Unless the counterfeiter can somehow see into the mind of God and know what God is planning.

Why I deny manmade climate change.

Correct, except that the energy from the sun reaches us as short-wavelength ultraviolet and visible radiation, and then is converted by a range of processes into long-wavelength infrared radiation, which is radiated back into space. The earth's energy budget should be neutral over all: as much energy radiated as received. Greenhouse gases disturb this because they *differentially* scatter and retain infrared radiation much more than visible and ultraviolet radiation, due to their molecular structure and the particular resonant frequencies of their bonds. Rather than being radiated out into space and lost, more of that energy is retained in the atmosphere, warming it. (the sun's loss of mass is well understood: the fusion processes that power it transform the lost mass into energy) (the NASA scientist stumbled, not because photons are not well understood, but because it is difficult to explain what is elegantly contained in the mathematics of quantum theory into clumsy English words. The photon does not 'suddenly appear'. The particle was always both wave and particle. Or rather, it was always a photon: both 'wave' and 'particle' are only metaphors that help us explain its behaviour)

    DJD407 - New Man

Read More Daily Jesus Scripture: James 1:16-18 Starting Question: Have you ever been thanked for something you didn't do? How did you respond? New Man Ecstatic, the new Naaman put on his clothes and armour, mounted his horse and headed back to the Prophet’s house at a full gallop. This time Elisha came out of his house and was very welcoming and friendly. Naaman stood before Elisha, and said, “Now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel. So please accept a gift from your servant.” He gestured to the wagons which held the payment for his healing — 750 pounds of silver, 150 pounds of gold, and ten sets of clothing. Elisha’s answer was beyond understanding, “As surely as the Lord lives, whom I serve, I will not accept any gifts.” Naaman tried everything to change the Prophet’s mind, but Elisha refused saying, “What are you paying me for? I have done nothing!” “But you healed me of Leprosy!” Naaman argued. “No I didn’t,” Elisha quipped. “I’ve never seen you before in my life! If you’ve been healed it’s because God saw fit to heal you!” “But I came to your door,” Naaman replied. “And your servant gave me a message from you, that I was to wash in the river and be healed!” Elisha crossed his arms and said, “That was a message from the Lord, not me! I can’t heal anyone from anything. Only God can do such things!” Slowly Naaman began to get the picture. Elisha wanted no reward because he hadn’t done anything — other than deliver a message from the God “whom he served.” God had healed Naaman. This God — the God of his slave girl — truly was the one true God and had an honest-to-goodness prophet! Naaman understood. It was God who was worthy of thanks. But how? His chariots loaded with treasure looked insignificant now. How do you thank a God that has everything? Perhaps by thinking outside the box. Naaman’s next statement, a request of Elisha, was very odd indeed. “Please allow me to load two of my mules with earth from this place, and I will take it back home with me.” Imagine the confusion that now settled on Elisha, and all the servants. Dirt? Naaman wants to dig up a pile of dirt from the prophet’s front yard and take it home? Has he gone mad? What is he going to do with two mules worth of dirt? ** Continued in New God tomorrow ** Reflection Question: What do you think Naaman is going to do with all that dirt? Why? 27. “The books of Daniel and the Revelation are one… In the order of God, most wonderful and advanced truths would be proclaimed…but no further light was to be revealed before these messages had done their specific work.” (1MR 99.3 ) “Daniel’s prophecies have their proper place in the first, second, and third angels’ messages...” (1MR 99.2) “The first, second, and third angels’ messages are to be repeated.” (RH, October 31, 1899 par. 11). “The message of the fall of Babylon, as given by the second angel, is repeated, with the additional mention of the corruptions which have been entering the churches since 1844.” (EW 277.1) [Note that when the 2nd angels message is repeated something is added mentioning the corruptions that have come into the churches. it is not just saying the message again. The message that is being repeated is different in that something has been added to it.] “In history and prophecy, the Word of God portrays the long continued conflict between truth and error. That conflict is yet in progress. Those things which have been will be repeated.” (1MR 47.3&17MR 11.1) “The work of this angel comes in at the right time to join in the last great work of the third angel’s message as it swells to a loud cry. And the people of God are thus prepared to stand in the hour of temptation, which they are soon to meet. I saw a great light resting upon them, and they united to fearlessly proclaim the third angel’s message.” (EW 277.1) “Study Revelation in connection with Daniel; for history will be repeated.” (1888 1491.1)
