I was glad to hear about how he was reaching out to God. Sad about his death.

    Prince

Prince was raised as a Seventh-day Adventist. At a later time, he converted to the Jehovah's Witness faith. This is probably due to his life-long interest in obtaining a deeper understanding of the Biblical teachings. With this conversion he became an active member, although not a full member, and this distinction is important. This conversion brought about a change in life. He participated in the door-to-door ministry that JWs are expected to perform. Also, in his public witness he proclaimed a rejection of the life-style that his music had once advocated. He made his religious faith and commitment a part of his public witness. He publicly stated that he was practicing a celibate life. In some respect, his religious faith as a JW maintained some of the aspects of the SDA faith. Although, he was probably more a JW than a SDA in his later years. Prince was indeed a complex person. This complexity included his religious beliefs and practices. In any case, an evaluation of his relationship with God is beyond what we have been given the authority to do. That rests solely with God at this point in time. * * Edited by Gail

Who are the seven heads of Revelation 17?

MCBGM, nowhere in Daniel 9:24-27 does it even hint that the 70 weeks end with the destruction of the temple. It simply implies that the destruction of the temple is a subsequent external consequence of rejecting and killing the Messiah during the last of the 70 weeks. The destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple transpires 39 years after the termination of the 70th week.

    Supernatural

"There are some things that we used to think are supernatural that we now explain scientifically" does not necessarily logically imply that "everything we now think of as supernatural will eventually be explained scientifically". Although... if angels and higher dimensions and God's power are explained by higher level scientific rules that we have not yet understood, maybe the second is the case? It depends on what we mean by 'supernatural', and what we mean by 'science'. I'm very happy to accept, though, that discovering that some things thought to be supernatural, like thunder and lightning, actually have natural explanations does not mean everything supernatural does.

  8. 1. Apples and oranges comparison! EGW's space trips is not found among SDA doctrinal beliefs; the immaculate conception and her subsequent personal sinlessness is, it appears to me, a dearly held doctrine in the RCC. 2. Do you believe that prophets in vision "whether out of the body or in the body" are capable of travel or speaking with extra-terestials? 3. Scripture is clear - "all have sinned," and there is only ONE Person called in Scripture as being "without sin". 4. If Mary was sinless, she herself would not have needed a Savior. 5. If you beg to differ, then just show scriptural basis for your belief.

The RCC has made great strides in acceptance within the mainstream Protestantism. We can wait and see OTOH, Steve Wohlberg has come out with a theory regarding where Islam works into prophecy. If nothing else, he is correct in saying that the nations are angry.

Yes, he was well-respected. I have not seen much or listened to much of his music but saw him on a "super group" video (You know, with Eric Clapton, George Harrison and I think Jeff Lynne and others). I was impressed at his guitar skill.

The supernatural- the one place where science does not reign. I like the largeness of the thought! Man is not supreme after all!

I like the notion of science of the supernatural or maybe supernatural science. I think it was the Discovery Channel that once had a program focusing not he idea of naturally occurring phenomena that could have caused the plagues in Egypt. I thought it rather intriguing to consider, although a good friend that has a more conservative/traditional religious perspective found it troubling. I think he was disturbed by the impression of thing way the mystery or miraculous nature of God's actions in bringing about those plagues. I didn't see it as diminishing God's power or ability or the miraculous nature of His intervention. To me it tends dot reinforce the awesomeness of God to be able to manipulate natural laws and control nature in a very precise and skillful ways to achieve His purposes. Nothing is impossible for God. He just has supernatural science and technology. It is sort of like being able to master some amazing skills to harness technology or even achieve ever higher achievements in the many activities of life. There was a time when mankind thought it impossible to travel faster than whatever was the fastest thing of time, a galloping horse. Or that we couldn't travel faster than the speed of sound. There were even scientific theories that it would do great physical harm for the human body to be subjected to greater speed. But we know even consider speed of light travel theoretically possible.

Whatever his beliefs and his practices, Prince was indeed a "prince" in the music world. His music influenced many of today's great pop artists - Beyoncé, the Bangles, Bruno Mars, and Cindi Loeper - to name a few.

FYI, The following are the various levels of relationship within the JW denomination: Student: Simply one who is taking Bible studies from the JWs. Associate: This person is expected to have a basic understanding of JW doctrine and is expected to attend JW services on a somewhat regular basis. As such they have been accepted by the congregation as an Associate. But, they are not subject to JW discipline and they may have some disagreement with JW Doctrine. They will not have been baptized. Publisher: These people have agreed to participate with the congregation in formal witness and attempts to convert others to the JWs. Some may be allowed to be a Publisher who have not been baptized. They will be Associates. Others will have been baptized. Pioneer: These are baptized members who have more formal requirements for ministry in the congregation. Missionary: These are baptized members who are more involved in establishing converts and congregations outside of the local congregation. Based solely upon my reading of the reports of Prince's involvement with the JWs, I think that he was probably an un-baptized Publisher.

    Ponderous pondering...

I can be comfortable with both....as long as they are 'real'. Since I lived in several SDA areas growing up, I became very suspicious of 'piety'. Now I will grant you that sounds like I am being judgemental, but it is just my sense in some situations and does not impact my friendship. I have always gravitated towards those on the 'fringe' because of they seemed more normal! Weird. I find respect with others towards different lifestyles. Do not feel compelled more or less to do something I feel is wrong. Just my independence in wanting to be my own judge of the situation. Everyone is different!!

Who are the seven heads of Revelation 17?

Are you trying to say that accepting Christ's divinity would be a violation of the Torah? If so, I think this is incorrect because we have a lot of passages in the OT where a person sent from God is also called God.

Who are the seven heads of Revelation 17?

No, rather, my statement was based on what Dan. 8 and 9 plainly say. Tell me, then, why Gabriel said, "Consider the mar'eh" just before he started talking about the 70 weeks? Where does Dan. 9 say that? Where does it say that?
