Some people need brain surgery, some need a broken arm fixed, while others may need only a bandaid. At different points in life's experience we have different needs and may experience everything from bandaids to brain surgery. To the person needing a bandaid do you also include planning for brain surgery?

    Joel Osteen

Recently the National Geographic has produced a TV series, The Search For God, with Morgan Freeman, which I have taped for later viewing. This morning I viewed the segment, Who is God? It had a short clip with Joel Osteen, which I found to be interesting. Joel Osteen is a very popular preacher whom many SDA's find to be attractive. He is the Sr. pastor of a very large congregation in Texas. One can view them 24 hours a day, every day of the year. He is on satellite radio. In his personal life he has not been accused of financial wrong doing and he has not been accused of dalliances with women to whom he was not married. In the clip that I watched today, I found a couple of his comments to be of interest as they relate to his Sunday services: 1) One of his intents is to give the 10,000 or so who attend his church something that will be of immediate help to them in getting t[hem through the day. For this reason, he does not preach what many would call doctrine. 2) In addition, he intends to give people faith that Christ can impower them and give them the strength to meet the whatever comes to them during the day. I will agree that such is both important and of value. Further, I will say that such is a first step in the Christian life and it is what many people need who have missed out in this during their Christian life. But, I will add to the above that there are steps in the Christian life that go beyond the above. Christian growth does not stop with what is above, Rather the above should be a beginning of growth in one's walk with Christ. I do not criticize Joel for not going beyond what he has stated he is doing. We are not indebted to only one human for our nurture in the Christian life. Rather we can advance as one leads us on founded on what had gone before. The Bible speaks to this sin mentioning John the Baptist who was to prepare for the coming of the Christ. It may be that Joel can do a preparatory work that can lay the foundation for the work that others will do. But, he is not the end of ones Christian growth.

    Samantha has arrived

My daughter is now a mommy. She was in the delivery room as Samantha was being born, and was allowed to cut the umbilical cord. In the photo it looks as if my daughter had been crying, and she had, big tears of happiness. She and her husband were unable to conceive for many years, but made a connection in WA with an expectant mother who already had 3 children and definitely didn't want a 4th. My daughter had to suffer through a number of fertility treatments, none of which were successful. Samantha is officially adopted by my daughter and her husband, and was delivered by C-section a day or so ago. My daughter thought that she was perfect, even though Samantha howled during her first bath. She quieted down after she was wrapped up warmly and held by her new parents. The hospital gave the them a room to stay in until the baby is allowed to go home with them, just a day or two after birth. I think she has 1 month of maternity leave from the SDA conference where she works. Samantha.doc

Did God Implement the Plan of Redemption the Day Adam Sinned?

The plan of redemption was implemented the moment God awakened the first creature, probably billions of years before Adam.

    Look What I Did!

I used to think I had to cook the egg on both sides before adding the filling to make the omelet.. That's what always made mine break apart. Now I just cook over low heat, *cover the skillet* with a lid until the egg is just done, add the filling on half, and fold the other half over on top, and keep it on the heat until the filling is done, flipping it a couple times during the process. Easy to do when the egg is done.

    Look What I Did!

Liz, I'm really only good at making scrambled eggs usually! Don't feel bad. I think I figured out the "trick" to this omelet--it's the size of the pan! When I cook at home, I'm cooking for at least 2 of us (usually 4) and my pots and pans are bigger. My grandma's been living alone for 30 years, so her pots and pans are perfect for making smaller portions. Alien, you got it! It'll be ready in an hour.

I'd like to place an order, now. Please add some tiny pieces of red and green bell pepper to make it a little more interesting and crunchy, but leave the bacon out.

You are a good granddaughter. It's also really cool that you still have your grandparents or at least one of them. I can make great scrambled eggs and that's about it as far as eggs go.

I semi-scramble them. I used one whole egg and some egg whites (from a cardboard jug). Even when I make scrambled eggs, I usually only semi-scramble them. I like it that way...my husband thinks it's weird.

    Step Great Grandfather

As one who has retired from working in a teaching hospital for some 20 years, I think I have some minimum knowledge of what happens in a hospital, even if I do have more to learn. But, the hospital where I worked did not do delivery. Any female patient who was going to deliver was transferred to the hospital next door. We were one of three hospitals that were side-by-side. So, I have learned something in this experience with the birth of Noah and how he is fed since it is not thought that he is ready to eat on his own. Very simple: Mama is attached to an electric milking machine. I did not know that they existed for humans. The milk is collected and fed to Noah through a tube. The result: Noah get the benefit of human milk even if it is not from a more natural delivery method.

This is a MUST READ for a couple of friends on mine...

What is your point of the above? It is rather long and difficult to follow. Are you criticizing the church, people who attend, pastors...who? I do take it that you have some issue with the church, not sure what about. A rather presumptive statement that condemns many people, vast numbers that you do not even know. Based on you post, I get the impression you feel that the second group is the one you feel part of.

    Step Great Grandfather

Noah has transferred out of the neonatal unit to a regular bed for a newborn. He is off oxygen and breathing fine on his own. Staff does not feel that he should attempt to eat on his own, so he is getting food through a tube. All in all, he is doing well for a pre-mature baby.
