I really hate to say this, but it is the above type of rigidness that kept my Dad out of the SDA church for years and years and years. His view of Adventists was that they were humorless, totally fixated on *their* views of right and wrong to the point of judging others, and self-righteous bigots who had no clue about the real world and how to relate to people. It took a long time, and interaction with some great people, before Dad changed his mind about Adventists. (I'm sure there are some here on C/A who will find it necessary to write something derisive about my Dad's views of Adventists. Go ahead. You can't hurt him now... )

Not trying to speak for Rachel; but JW's do NOT believe Christ was/is God. Trust me; Rachel has no doubts that Christ is God. The only thing that I (and maybe she) disagrees with you one is the nature of the pre-incarnate Christ - who was and continues to be the physical manifestation of Yahweh.

Has everyone forgotten that you have to actually 'click' on the links to view the site? You are not being forced, but, you wish to force others over to your way of thinking. What happens when a handful or less, comes along and decides that you and others should be banned for what they think is justifiable reasons? And then another group comes along and does the same to them. Soon there is no one left, only the self righteous! Are you willing to let others to decide for you what is 'moraly pure', and abide by their definitions or interpretations of the Bible?

This topic thread is a sad deja vu of an ongoing conflict which existed for some time long ago on ClubA. The contest fighting between the Pro-Mrs Gray camp and the Anti-Mrs Gray camp. It turns out that a rookie student lawyer was using his weak author skills to past his intent to manipulate the ClubA SDA sheeple and mock them by satirical talk through this Advatar. All was deception and manipulation of many who actually believed Mrs Gray was a real lady of the senior kind. Finally the truth came to the surface as to what was going on.

I have been looking through the Barely Adventist "humor" forum. To me it is all satire, and what is the definition of satire: Satire is used to hold something up to rebuke, a caustic exposure to reprobation, a lampooning, ridicule, and more. Thus I see the entire forum as an attack upon the church.

I believe this means that the Son (because He was a son) honored His Father, and did not seek to share His throne equally, but rather honored the Father as above himself. This even though the Son existed "in the express image of God". An express image is AN EXACT COPY. And this would mean that the Son was equal in nature and power. He did not seek to claim equal authority, even though He was equal in all other respects. When the war with Satan is finally finished: NRS 1 Corinthians 15:24 "Then comes the end, when he [Christ] hands over the kingdom to God the Father, after he has destroyed every ruler and every authority and power. 25 For he [Christ] must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27 For "God [the Father] has put all things in subjection under his feet." But when it says, "All things are put in subjection," it is plain that this does not include the one [God the Father] who put all things in subjection under him [Christ]. 28 When all things are subjected to him [Christ], then the Son himself will also be subjected to the one who put all things in subjection under him, so that God may be all in all. Words in brackets are mine. So the authority of God the Father is ABOVE that of His Son - forever. God the Father is above ALL. "The HEAD of Christ is God" (1 Cor 11:3). This WHY the Father is continually called "the God of Christ" or "His God and Father" through the NT. Lucifer - on the other hand - DID seek to be equal with God. More than that, he has sought to displace God - by deception, by manipulation, and by force.

Exodus 20:3-6 “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” “Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them nor serve them.” I believe that the earth was cut off from God the Father by the sin of Adam. The Son then became the mediator - the representative of His Father to our world. As such, the Son of God became God of this world - Yahweh to Israel. He was worshiped as Yahweh. He spoke and wrote the Ten Commandments. He appeared to the 70 Elders of Israel on Mount Sinai. He appeared to Abraham, wrestled with Jacob, and spoke to Moses from the burning bush. His taking this role of Mediator was predicated upon His promise to submit Himself to the temptations of Satan, while in human form and nature. Only when the Son incarnated, was the rupture between mankind and God the Father partly closed. The Spirit of the Father was restored to earth, when the Son became a man. Before the incarnation, only the Son of God, along with the angels, served and protected those of humankind who called on the "name of the LORD".

JWs do not worship Christ. We are to WORSHIP only God. I think of the word God as generic - like human. It's not a name. It's a type. God means divine being, as opposed to human being, or animal, etc etc. The Son of God INHERITED the divine nature of His Father. Therefore the Son was a divine being, prior to His incarnation. When He incarnated, He gave up His God nature, and took human nature. And human nature after it had been degraded for 4000 years. He overcame evil in the same way that you and I are to overcome - by the indwelling of the divine. For Christ, that meant the indwelling of His divine Father (who IS spirit according to John 4). Because He was the SON, He obeys His Father. The Father is "above all", and "greater than all". This is why Christ instructed His disciples to pray TO the Father, in the name of the Son. Scripture is clear that the Son of God is to be worshiped. Philippians 2:10-11 “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Notice that only two divine Beings are worshiped.) Hebrews 1:6 “But when He again brings the first born into the world, He [God the Father] says: ‘Let all the angels of God worship Him.’” Luke 24:51-52 “Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,” Revelation 5:13 “And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: “Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!” (Two divine beings are worshiped here.)

Why would those that believe satire is used frequently to demean others an indication those same would write something derisive? I don't make a practise of reading Barely Adventist after the first couple of times but it was enough to recognize the same "derisive" intent used against others on the forum. Others have their own personal reasons for disliking it,I don't like it primarily because it does not stay there. State an opinion on certain topics or a belief that others don't share and the usual posters are quick to use the same brand of satire to make Adventists humorless, totally fixated on *their* views of right and wrong to the point of judging others, and self-righteous bigots who had no clue about the real world and how to relate to people.

I'm gonna stick to my guns and continue reading Barely Adventist and exercise my right to laugh at some of the peculiar stuff about my faith. I resemble some of the satires in BA; and I'm glad someone besides me finds it humorous. Anyone who disagrees with my attempt at unifying this place in favor of Barely Adventist should be promptly banned from this site.

Gerry the reality is that the full story as to what pastor and church did has not been made public. You do not know and neither do I. That is the bottom line. Further, you do not know exactly what the denominational officials did in response to this incident. In reality the only thing that we can say is: An issue of concern was brought to the attention of denominational officials. The proper people investigated it and took action based upon that investigation. Anything else that we might say is speculation and potentially incorrect.

I could be wrong, but the article seems to indicate that the one baptized was still in active relationship with the partner, otherwise there would be no controversy whatsoever.

The Administrators of this website are Mr S.Jensen, Mr T.Wetmore and Ms Gail ... They have been in office here 17 years. We all are assuming they are united in goals and outlook on morals governing not only the members behavior when posting, but general moral practices of the SDA traditions represented (hopefully) in purity by this website. I pray that the next time the three of them have a pow-wow about this disruptive deceitful B.A. matter, they will come to the conclusion it would be an act of wisdom exercised by completely removing all visual evidence of BarelyAdventist from the Humor Sector.

Barely Adventist hasn't posted anything about other religions, that I know of... As with other satirical websites of various denominations, the topical content is designed for specific audiences. In our Humor section, pk posts Jewish jokes that are satire. For instance: I think the above is funny. But according to some here, poking fun at the Jewish reputation regarding money would be terribly insensitive. I really don't think some here understand the nature and intent of satire.. Kinda sad.

Why not have a Barely Catholic,Barely Muslim or Barely Mormon humor section. If SDA's don't mind and in fact think it funny why shouldn't we think the same concerning others. Those that don't like it and disagree as to it being humorous are subject to the true christians doubling down if anything is said. Yet how many times have those of you that think absurd mockery is really humor blasted anyone that in your opinion is disparaging another religion?

Is it really true that there is no "worse of a sinner than anyone of us"? Must every sinner continue in his or her sin and remain a sinner? Was Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross really in vain? Are we all going to simply be lost because we cannot obtain victory over sin? Does the Bible admonish us in vain to "endure" to the end, to "fight" the good fight of faith, to "resist" the devil so that he flees from us, and to know and understand that God will make a way of "escape" from temptations?

Depends on who is doing the tickling. Done by those that generally show respect to others for a difference in opinion I enjoy. Those that use "tickling" to mock and make absurd statements to show their disdain of others NOPE. To some mocking contempt is humor. Some see it for what it is and believe that is the disdain they hold for others. What is humorous about the absurd "satire" about the GC and cleaning inspectors? Why would those that do prepare for the sabbath come to mind when looking for something humorous to post? Maybe you didn't or don't. I really don't care, nor would I find it necessary to use use the same contempt towards you for doing differently than I and call it humor. We had sabbath clothes laid out fri afternoon, early baths etc. Didn't have anything to do with the absurdity of Barely Adventist and to me it comes across as those that don't want to make something shallow and superficial by those who do. We had 8-10 kids under 10 most of the time. Unless we wanted sabbath morning to turn into a circus and end up being in time for the benediction routine was necessary. Others I know that kept to a routine for sabbath did so because they didn't like the rush and last minute eruptions that occur during other times. One young mother decided to plan a sabbath routine did so after realizing after a hectic sabbath morning with her family she ended up in church with two different shoes instead of a pair. Certainly more offensive "satires" have been posted but can you explain why anyone would want to "tickle" someone in a manner that hasn't anything to do with humor but mocking others by those that treat sabbath morning as any other day?

Hi rudywoofs, I have a suggestion as to what I would like to see happen here. Whoever it is that writes Barely Adventist I leave in God's hands. He will either change the person's heart or put a stop to Barely Adventist. One way or another He will take care of it. Before I say what I would like to see happen here I have a few things to say to put context to my suggestions. It seems that I am seen as an enemy of the adminstration of this site. Why I do not know. I just want you to know that the hostility is not returned. I have no wish for there to be animosity between me and thee. Do you realize that when you use "saint" as a pejorative that you are also speaking of yourself? You too are a saint according the Bible. All church members are. Look up how the Bible uses the word. I love the Seventh-day Adventist church. I am a member because I have studied its doctrines and found them to be Biblical. I have found no other church whose doctrines are all Biblical. I have no other place to go than the SDA church. No other church has the same understanding of the Bible that I do. And Ellen White? Outside of the Bible I have never seen the love of God portrayed in a more striking manner than how she portrays it. It is her Conflict of the Ages series that is responsible for me being a Christian today. I started with Patriarchs and Prophets and by the time I finished The Desire of Ages I knew two things without a doubt. One: I needed a Saviour badly. Two: God loved me with a greater love than I had ever understood to be possible. Because of these things I find it offensive to see the church and Ellen White spoken of sneeringly for when they are spoken of that way I see the reproach as falling on God Himself. Why? Because Ellen White tells us that the church, as enfeebled and defective as it may be, is the one object on earth on which God bestows His supreme regard. We are also told that when God's servants, His church, are held before a bar, and in this instance I am speaking of the bar of public opinion, that every reproach, every mocking, sneering, ridiculing comment made falls upon Christ too because He stands with His church. Thus when His church is mocked, Jesus sees Himself as being mocked too. That makes mocking His church an extemely serious thing for us to do. You told me, not very long ago, that Club Adventist was created as a way to share SDA beliefs. I have to say that mocking and ridiculing SDA beliefs and leadership is a very odd way of sharing our beliefs. I do not see it as "sharing" our beliefs with the world at all. That, to me, and I think the vast majority of people, makes Barely Adventist outside the stated scope of what Club Adventist was to be all about for I know of no one who thinks mockery and ridicule are a positive commentary on the object they are being used against. So, I would like to see the association between Barely Adventist and Club Adventist terminated. Stop promulgating the denigration of the church, its leadership, and its doctrines, and go back to actually fulfilling the stated goal of this site.

It seems to me, that even though the article doesn't go into all the specifics, at least in my mind, that the individual must of made some kind of commitment? Otherwise I would think that they would not have baptized her at all? Don't you think?? Because I would think that she will always be a lesbian, just like an alcoholic, for the rest of her life?? I could be wrong! She is not any worse of a sinner than anyone of us!

Just my opinion - If it would have been "impossible" for Christ to sin, couldn't satan call "foul"? The very fact that Christ was temped in all ways yet was without sin (Heb. 4:15) tells me that it was possible for Christ to sin. How can something be a temptation if we are totally immune to falling for the temptation? The fact that God sent His Son" in the likeness of sinful flesh" (Rom. 8:3) tells me that Christ could have sinned (but He didn't), or else He would have been sent in the likeness of sinless flesh.
