    Don't judge people you don't know. 2017

Among us humans, as we live and interact with one another, the matter of judging is always present. Mostly to being some negative judging without consideration of facts which we fail to have. The conclusion drawn from one's subjective observation is colored with our personal prejudices. If we in our character development are basically negative in a condemning way our conclusions will be mean and damming. If we are of a forgiving nature and lean more to being positive and optimistic, than our conclusions are mostly merciful and kind. After viewing this v-clip I was moved to a touch of sadness because it portrayed poverty that I lived in for a period of time. The Lord be praised! He lifted me up and set me in a new status of upper-class well-to-do living. Never have I lost my heart for loving those who have less that we do. I see this v-clip as portraying loving kindness to one's 'neighbor'. I don't see wrong judging going on in the movie.

What meal did you eat as a kid that...

My mom used to make beef hash. She had this metal clamp looking thing that clamped down on the table, and we would put the meat and onions and whatnot into the top of it and turn the crank and it would grind together and come out of the side. While I thought the process was fun, I didn't really care for the end result and I haven't eaten it since leaving home. In fact, I don't think she makes it anymore. What was really bad, was one time I took my daughter into an antique store and there was one of those metal clamps (I don't know what they are called) on one of the shelves. I picked it up and said, "This is not an antique I used one when I was a kid." then I looked at my daughter and said, "And if you know what is good for you, you won't say whatever it is you are thinking." She speaks sarcasm, so I knew something was coming.

Jerusalem Day and the 2300 Days of Daniel 8

Interesting post. The prophetic year-day principle as used in the Bible always includes periods of both literal days and literal years, and those periods include notable physical events at the beginning and the end of both the literal days and the literal years. This interpretation does use notable events to begin and end the 2300 year period, but it seems to be missing a period of 2300 literal days and the corresponding events.

Is there lard in the beans?

Violating health laws is not a sin. It is less than God's ideal. God wants us to prosper and experience life abundantly. Following the health laws are part of making that happen. It is not part of the moral law like the Ten Commandments. It is divine counsel given to us for our benefit in this life. This is one of the things I love about Adventism. It reflects the Bible unlike any other faith I know. Many faiths draw hard lines of right and wrong. Do this and don't do that. Adventism tries to teach the love of God, His compassion and the sympathy He has for us. Adventism frames the law of God as the law of love. Jesus rebuked pointless rules and regulations set up by the religious leaders of His day. The health laws are for our good and given to us out of love. Although the issue at hand was ceremonial uncleanliness, the distinction Christ made in Mark 7:19 still holds true for diet in general. What we eat does not contaminate our heart (mind) but passes right through us. The exception to that is alcohol and drugs and drunkenness is forbidden in the Bible. In the case of alcohol and drugs, it does go into the mind (heart) and change our behavior. Prisons are filled with people that committed crimes while under the influence of drugs or alcohol that they would have never committed had they been sober. However there are not any prisoners that committed crimes because they were under the influence of bacon. Knowingly eating meat offered to idols is sinful because makes the person part of the religious practice of idol worship. It is forbidden in Acts 15:29. We might well note that gentile nations ate pork and the eating of unclean meat was not listed among the prohibitions in Acts 15:29. Daniel and the Hebrew worthies refused to eat the king's meat because it had been offered to idols. It most likely was also unclean, or some of it was. However if it was just an issue of being unclean, Daniel and the Hebrew worthies could have asked to only eat the clean meats. The major issue in the story of Daniel was participating in pagan worship by eating of the meat. Knowingly eating meat offered to idols is a sin. This is a violation of the Second Commandment to not worship idols. It is a moral issue more than it is a health issue. The subject for another thread is whether or not one sin is greater than another. I would rather have a man hate me and be resentful than to murder me.

Is there lard in the beans?

The 2005 book "Seventh-day Adventists Believe" states that eating unclean meat "is less than God's ideal." (page 319). Avoiding unclean meats is part of the Baptismal vows. The Church Manual also states that part of the Health Ministries department is "promoting optimum health, free of tobacco, alcohol, other drugs, and unclean foods. Where possible, members shall be encouraged to follow a primarily vegetarian diet." (page 93). Under Fundamental Belief #22 it also states, "we are to adopt the most healthful diet possible and abstain from unclean foods identified in the Scriptures." (page 170) Clearly the church teaches not to eat unclean meats and that is part of being a member as we agree to it when we take the baptismal vows. However the issue in this thread is the application of 1 Corinthians 10:27. We know that in the worship of Apollos, swine were offered as sacrifices along with cattle, sheep and goats. We also know that on some occasions, horses and dogs were sacrificed. So while the context of the passage is addressing sacrificed meats, these did include unclean meats at times. One way of reading Paul's comments is in the context of Matthew 23:24 when Christ reprimanded the Pharisees for straining gnats out of water while they swallow a camel. While there are less and less restaurants and factories using lard today, it is still out there. Unclean bone marrow may be in many packages of Jell-O and marshmallows. Medically we know that small amounts of these items is not going to harm our overall health. In fact, some products that use vegetable oil instead of lard have a higher fat content and pose a greater health hazard. The Old Testament laws can be classified in one of four ways. 1. moral laws 2. civil laws 3. ceremonial laws 4. health laws. The clean and unclean distinction falls into the health laws category. I do not find anywhere that this is a moral issue but rather a health issue. As Adventists, the health message is our right hand in carrying the gospel to the world. We are to avoid smoking, drinking, eating unclean meats and promote vegetarianism. That is part of being a member. It is part of our high calling to warn the world that the end is near. However I think we go overboard and cross a line when we start making the health laws into a moral issue. I quit asking restaurants if the beans have lard in them. If I can taste it (and sometimes I can) I will avoid going back there or not order beans the next time I do. Whether or not all sin is equal is a topic for another thread. I know that to look at a woman with lust is sinful. To rape a woman is also sinful. If asked, most women would rather have a man lust after them than to rape them.

Christ’s Ministry in the Heavenly Sanctuary # 24

How many times have we tried to get non-SDA's to "see" a verse of Scripture in a different way? Can't we try the same thing - on ourselves?

Jerusalem Day and the 2300 Days of Daniel 8

Jerusalem Day and the 2300 Days of Daniel 8 Israel will celebrate Jerusalem Day from the evening of May 23rd to evening May24th 2017. This celebrates the capture of East Jerusalem during the Six Day War in 1967. Thus this year will be the 50th Anniversary of this event. They also speak of this as the reunification of Jerusalem. Jesus in the Mount Olivet prophecy clearly prophesied that Jerusalem would be conquered by the Roman army, and this was fulfilled in AD70. He also stated that the inhabitants of Jerusalem and Judea would go into captivity, and that Jerusalem would be trodden down for a long period of time. Luke 21:20-24 (KJV): 20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. 21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. 22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. 23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. 24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. Now these events were clearly fulfilled in AD70, when the Roman armies besieged and captured Jerusalem and destroyed the Temple. The Arch of Titus in Rome commemorates this victory with an engraving of the Jews taken into captivity to become slaves. Prominent in the depiction is a Jew carrying the 7-Branched Lampstand, in effect symbolizing the putting out of the religion of Judaism and the nation of Israel, through whom God had previously used to shine forth the light of his truth to the nations. Now these events were also prophesied in Daniel: Daniel 8:9-14 (KJV): 9 And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land. 10 And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. 11 Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. 12 And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered. 13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? 14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed. This speaks of the overthrow of Jerusalem and a long period of down treading. From Jesus’ quotation and allusion in Luke 21, this clearly speaks about the Roman overthrow of Jerusalem and the Temple in AD70. This also speaks here of the crucifixion of Jesus by the Roman authorities. What are we to make of the 2300 days of Daniel 8:14? If we take the principal event in the vision, the overthrow of the Medo-Persian Ram by the Grecian Ram headed up by Alexander the Great in BC 334-333 and add the 2300 years we come to AD 1967, when Jerusalem was liberated from the treading down of the Gentiles, and once again came under the control of the Jews. Kind regards Trevor

What meal did you eat as a kid that...

Just about everything that I could not eat as a young child, I now eat as an adult. However. as a young adult, eating for two (2) years in an Army Mess hall, there are two items that I ended my Army life not wanting to eat. 1) I can eat cornflakes, but I do not eat such. 2) I have an extremely hard time with the goopy yellow (or grey) mustard that comes in a jar. I do not mind the ground mustard that may be put into a baked item. But, the stuff in a jar that you might spread on a sandwich is well beyond my ability to eat.

Is there lard in the beans?

When I was at a self supporting Independent Ministry where masses go for healing of the body ..We were talking about healthier places to eat. A lovely sanguine Hispanic Woman told me to be careful of Food Trucks (taco trucks) when it comes to their delicious beans. She gave an example of what she has done in the past. She goes up and orders a vegie burrito and asks if the beans have LARD in them. "o no we do not put LARD in our beans" She then tells them.. " My doctor says I can't have them. Are you sure?" " o yes we do not have LARD in our beans." She counters back.. " If the beans have LARD in them My body will go in shock and i will drop on the ground right here and have a seizure! I could even die!!!" then the Taco Truck Person said "Yes. We have LARD in our beans" "
