Downsides of Theological Discussions
LifeHiscost reacted to B/W Photodude for a topic
I find it sometimes difficult to follow some of the "logic trails" of some posts here of different authors where any belief in EGW has been discarded, the Holy Spirit has been discarded, even parts of the Bible that conflict with some privately held beliefs are discarded with the assumption that "someone added them later." And who knows what the IJ is all about as the word doesn't even appear in the Bible?! ? It just seems so much confusion. I just find that the gift of prophecy as given thru EGW has been a blessing and was promised to the end time church. And many other theologians who followed along afterwards such as Andreasen, Douglas, and contemporary writers such as Clifford Goldstein have also been incredible to me in putting together a "coordinated" view of end time events with the caveat that there is much more to come. I have one friend who knows his Bible very well and we have great conversations, but don't mention anyone else and EGW only in limited amounts. All well and good, but then why do I even listen to him?! Books just happen to be a great way for those who are no longer with us to continue sharing their ideas and findings with those who come after. Every believer does not have to reinvent the wheel in trying to understand Bible prophecy.1 point -

Responding to the 1,000-year flood in South Carolina last month, Adventist Community Services Disaster Relief (ACS DR) set up warehouses and brought in flood buckets as soon as the water subsided enough to operate. A shipment of 630 flood buckets was received from the Allegheny East Conference, and S.C. Governor Nikki Haley asked the staff of the warehouse to come with her as she visited the affected counties and to hand out the buckets to the victims during her visit with the counties. The governor came by to personally thank each ACS DR volunteer for helping with her mobile distribution program and for operating the warehouse for the state, and to have her picture taken with the group. I am likely one of the individuals you are talking about. I don't totally "disregard EGW; I just question her when I can't find anything in scripture to back up what she says. I don't disregard the Holy Spirit; I just question the "personhood" of the HS. The Holy Spirit is as real to me as the Father and Son; it's just not a Person (IMHO). Just because an author is not an Adventist does not make him/her wrong or a heretic. Sometimes I have a difficult time following your logic. If everyone here thought exactly the same way everyone else thought there would be no discussion except unanimous "likes". As rudywoofs says, "when the choir sings in unison, there is no harmony".1 point -

It is interesting how this topic is going all over the place. ? In my earlier post, I showed the reliability of God's word (rightly understood) that prophecy of the cleansing of the Sanctuary was continuous from 605 BC through 457 BC. It is just as sure when it comes to the establishment of the IJ in 1844. But I have read that evidence is not what people need, because the evidence is there and some just do not see it. So it is not the lack of evidence as much as the hearts of the people receiving the evidence as truth.1 point -
Must be Baptized in the Name of Yahshua the Christ to Be saved.

(Let's magnify this a bit so we can actually read it!) The English and Hebrew above do NOT say the same thing. And the English and Hebrew above do NOT say the same thing. If I was to read it it would be Ho-shu-yah. There is a difference. It would be helpful to know where this even came from. This is why you should not be judging someone else's baptism when you have difficulties with the Hebrew name yourself. You have assumed the role of judge which in the NT is forbidden as the job of judge belongs to God and taking His place is to be antichrist.1 point -

I believe that in some humans situations there is such a thing as implied consent. If you are unable to answer for yourself in an emergent situation, medical personel will treat you believing that the average reasonable person would want to be taken care of when unable to answer for themselves. In a similar situation, many people if unknowing about heaven, if they had a choice would choose eternal life and being in heaven. And God knows who they might be. If you were to read in Romans, you will find that Paul does speak of those who know right and wrong by natural laws. I tend to believe the Holy Spirit also speaks to those who do not know Jesus and encourages ethical or loving behavior. Apparently, God is able to know what many would choose if able.1 point -

Yes. She considered it to be a great day and she let the people know. The pastor and I have spoken a number of times on the telephone, as this developed. But, we have never met in person. During her baptismal studies, she had told the pastor that she was weird. A few days ago, she informed him that he would find me to be weird also.1 point -

For this forum, I am posting more about the life of my sister than I have stated in the post above. Even here, I am posting only a brief part of the struggles that she has had. It should be noted that my sister is quite open about her life and past. There is nothing that I will say here that she does not tell people. The use of tobacco and alcohol is in her past. My Father sent her off to alcohol rehab either three or four times, I have forgotten, before it finally took. She has been free of alcohol for decades now. But, she found giving up tobacco to be harder than the alcohol. Tobacco is very addictive. Her two sons will be present for the service today. One is an executive in a bank in Southern California. The other is employed by the State of California, an accomplished photographer, with an Internet presence, a graduate education and an accomplished writer. Both are runners, with the bank executive running marathons. The second son spent a decade, or more, confined to a wheel chair and about 20 years in rehab. During those years, large amounts of money were spent on his medical care, by his Father. The time came when that was no longer possible and his Mother became responsible for his care. During that time he, while confined to a wheel chair, was charged with attempted murder of people who had assaulted him while confined to a wheel chair! He was not convicted, in part because the victims refused to cooperate with his prosecution. The time came when Marcy recognized that she had to make a tough decision. She threw her son and his wheel chair out on the street and he was forced to live under a near-by bridge. But, in reality, it was the needs of her son that helped Marcy to overcome her issues and to get her life back again. Today, your if you were to see him walking down the street, you would never imagine the years that he spent, unable to walk, in a wheel chair. Marcy's long journey back is told in part in my previous post. Taken together, with this post, I will suggest that it is a story of God involved with the lives of people here on Earth and working. along with other people to bring them into salvation. She has never been financially well of and that continues today. but, God has provided the basics. Yes, Marcy is not perfect. But, she is on a spiritual journey that continues beyond today.1 point
