Cleaning House

Rachel and Leah were sisters who lived in different cities but talked on the phone daily. “I am so frustrated,” Rachel said to Leah. “My house is so disorganized and I keep procrastinating by not cleaning it.” “Well you better get moving!” Leah said to Rachel. “We’re coming to stay with you for Chanukah, and you should have the house clean and organized by then.” Rachel thought that was a good idea. But by next day’s conversation, Rachel was still sounding down. “What’s wrong?” Leah asked. "I went to the bookstore," Rachel explained. "And I bought a book on how to get organized. I was all fired up, and decided to clean out all the shelves in the living room. While I was working, I found the same darn book. I had bought it a couple of years ago."1 point -

Moishe started working in a factory and after his shift, the boss asked him to buy some supplies. The machines' conveyor belts needed talcum powder to prevent them from sticking, and the machines were making a tremendous racket, causing all of the working to get headaches so he had to buy aspirin for everyone. Moishe drove to the store in his neighborhood and loaded a shopping cart with four cases of baby powder and several boxes of aspirin. Moishe’s friend Chaim Yankel saw him in line and took a look at his cart and exclaimed, "Oy! Must be a rough night with the kinderlach!”1 point -
The Hour of Power

Rabbi Weber hired a junior rabbi to help with some of the responsibilities he had for his large congregation. As the first task he asked the new young Rabbi Abrahams to write his Shabbos morning sermon. He asked that it be thoughtful, humorous and 20 minutes maximum. After Shabbos services Rabbi Weber was furious. "Why did you write me an hour-long speech?" he demanded of Rabbi Abrahams. "Half the shul walked out before I finished." Young Rabbi Abrahams was baffled. "I wrote you a 20-minute speech," he replied. "I also gave you the two extra copies you asked for."1 point -
Which teachings are essential? Which are supportive?
JoeMo reacted to Lone Ranger for a topic
When I read it in one of your posts I initially passed over it without thought, because this was also my understanding. But on second thought I realized that I did not know of any texts to directly support this idea. There are several texts that can be understood as alluding to this, but, on the other hand there are about as many that state directly that Christ will "stand on the earth" when he returns. So it seems opinion is split on the question. A quick internet search will reveal more on both sides of the discussion, with supporting texts. I do not intend here to start a deep theological discussion; it's just a passing comment. If one sees merit in pursuing this line I believe another thread should be started.1 point -

I believe this is one of those little shreds of "doctrine" that I mentioned I have bags of. I cannot find any direct Scriptural support for this idea. Rather, it seems it is an implied conclusion drawn from select texts.1 point -

I watched all 3 videos. I'm not a big fan of Doug, but I agree - he did a good job! He had me going right up to the last 15 minutes of the 3rd video; where he went right back to the traditional SDA interpretation - that the papacy/RCC will declare themselves to be God - without much justification IMHO. That being said, I still think the end-time beast power will be Islam - not Christianity. But the video definitely presented a good case for MAJOR end-time event involvement by the western ("Christian?) world. The 3rd video was one of the best studies on Daniel 11 I have ever heard.1 point -

5 Things You Didn't Know About Mickey Mouse On November 18, 1928, the first successful sound-synchronized animated cartoon, Walt Disney's "Steamboat Willie" starring Mickey Mouse, premiered in New York. Here are 5 things you didn’t know about Minnie’s famous cartoon husband... Mickey Started as a Rabbit, Not a Mouse Walt Disney, along with Ub Iwerks, were the creators of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who looked suspiciously like the later Mickey Mouse, only with long ears. The film distributor, Universal Studios, wanted to cut Disney’s salary, hired away his employees and held the rights to Oswald. Disney and Iwerks went out on their own and came up with Mickey Mouse, who was called Mortimer at first, until Disney’s wife suggested the name Mickey. It Was a Long Time Before Mickey Spoke In 1929, Mickey Mouse finally had a voice after eight films, and it delighted cartoon fans when he spoke in “The Karnival Kid.” In previous films, Mr. Mouse made noises such as laughing and squealing but didn’t say any actual words. In the 1929 cartoon, his first words were “hot dog,” which he accompanied by dancing, and those two words became a catchphrase for the mouse’s character. “Steamboat Willie” Wasn’t the First Cartoon that Starred Mickey Mouse While “Steamboat Willie” was the first popular cartoon starring Mickey Mouse, it wasn’t the first. Wanting to emulate “Lucky Lindy,” in the earlier cartoon called “Plane Crazy,” Mickey builds several airplanes before getting one of them to fly. No distributor was interested in marketing the earlier cartoon, but interestingly enough, Minnie Mouse appears in this first cartoon along with Mickey. Ib Iworks Drew the Animation for Plane Crazy by Himself Ubbe Eert "Ub" Iwerks, an old friend of Disney and fellow animator, drew all the frames for “Plane Crazy,” which was an enormous task in the days before computer-driven animation. To complete the task, he made around 700 drawings each day on transparent paper. Some of the drawings he made in the day, while he worked on others in Disney’s garage after hours. Mickey Took a 30-Year Vacation The last cartoon Mickey Mouse appeared in before he disappeared was in 1953 and called “The Simple Things.” Because of the opening of Disneyland, feature films such as Bambi, a nationwide Mickey Mouse comic strip and popularity of “The Mickey Mouse Club,” the Mickey Mouse cartoons were no longer produced. He was reintroduced to the public in 1983 in a Christmas special called “Mickey’s Christmas Carol.”1 point -

OK, so I didn't find them here, and really didn't find the ones I originally had viewed, but find on AFTV web-site under a different title than I recalled and so I went onto you-tube and found them and am posting them! The first two lead up to the 3rd part where he does delve into the woes, the last 3 trumpets!! 01 - Islam, Christianity and Prophecy …. Doug Batchelor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FCtv9gt7Fs 02 - Islam, Christianity and Prophecy …. Doug Batchelor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0FeG3mU12E 03 - Islam, Christianity and Prophecy …. Doug Batchelor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgrB3wRF6Mo I believe Pr Doug Batchelor does a pretty good job! Like I mentioned the first two are a build up to the 3rd one! I enjoyed all of them. I re-watched all of them last night and today.1 point -

On one last comment as to posts made by Rachel: She has stated that certain specific doctrinal understandings are essential to salvation. She is correct from the perspective that doctrine teaches us about God, and our understanding of doctrine may affect how we relate to God and whether or not we want to spend eternity with God. As an example, I would not want to spend eternity with a God who kept people alive so they could be tortured by fire throughout eternity. If I believed that God did that, I would reject that God.1 point
