The nature of the Holy Spirit

Gustave said in the quote below: * The nature of God is beyond our human experience and therefore, beyond our human understanding. * Within that context, Gustave is absolutely correct.

The nature of the Holy Spirit

Prior to the Incarnation God (Father, Son & Holy Spirit) were Spirit. The Incarnation changed things as God, in the Person of the Son, added human nature to His Divine Nature. God became man without ceasing to be God.

    SDA Fundamentalism

Benjamin Wilkinson, mentioned in the Spectrum article, wrote at least two books. One was the Church Triumphant; the other, The Authorized Version Vindicated. A GC committee responded to the KJV Vindicated, more or less denouncing it as an irresponsible and poorly conceived book. In one of these volumes, Wilkinson claimed that he had discovered correspondence from the RC church to a Jesuit who was employed at an SDA college as a Bible teacher. Wilkinson claimed that the Jesuit disappeared when he was discovered. Wilkinson was responsible for two ridiculous teachings that still plague certain elements of the denomination today i.e., KJV only and Jesuit infiltration. One of Wilkinson's devotees, Jim Arrabito, claimed that Dr. Froom was a Jesuit because of his roll in the production of QOD. He had no response when it was pointed out that Froom's parents were SDA. Jim was largely responsible for resurrecting the KJV only perspective and Jesuit infiltration through the fascinating seminars he produced in the 1980s. As for the Jesuit story propagated by Wilkinson, it would be a relatively easy task to discover just who this alleged Jesuit was, since he was a college professor at Union College during Wilkinson's tenure there. Not many SDA Bible teachers just disappear. Cliff Goldstein was offering a cash prize to anyone who could produce evidence of Jesuit infiltration, so there is/was some relatively easy money available to anyone who would like to follow up on this allegation

    Judging Favorably

Mrs. Goldenberg got a ticket for running a red light and came to court to fight it. When asked for her occupation, she said that she was a schoolteacher. Judge Rosenbaum recognized the old teacher and said, “Mrs. Goldenberg, do you remember me?” Mrs. Goldenberg thought about it for a moment, squinted and said, “Little Heshy Rosenbaum is that you?” “It’s Harry, Mrs. Goldenberg,” the judge said. “Your Honor actually.” “Look at you, all grown up,” Mrs. Goldenberg smiled sweetly, hoping that her former student would help her with her ticket. “I’ve been waiting so many years to see you in court,” Judge Rosenbaum said. “I am so glad to hear it,” said Mrs. Goldenberg. “So the good news is that I am going to waive the fee on your ticket.” “Thank you so much Heshy, I mean, Your Honor, that’s very nice of you.” “The bad news is that I want you to sit down at that table right now and write: 'I will not run through a red light' five hundred times!!"

    Full of It

Shimmy and Rivky Leibowitz were proud parents to a new baby boy – their first. One day, Rivky had to go out to do some errands for the day so Shimmy stayed home to watch baby Moishie. Soon after Rivky left, baby Moishie started to cry. Shimmy did everything he could think of but baby Moishie wouldn't stop crying. Finally, Shimmy got so worried he decided to take the baby to the doctor. After the doctor listened to everything Shimmy had done to get baby Moishie to stop crying, the doctor began to examine the baby's ears, chest and then down to the diaper area. When he undid the diaper, he found that the diaper was indeed very full. "Here's the problem," the doctor said. "He needs a change." Shimmy was very perplexed, "But the diaper package says it is good for up to 10 lbs.!"

    When Life Begins

A minister, a priest and a rabbi were discussing when life begins. "Those of my faith," said the minister, "believe that life starts when the heart begins to beat." "We take a bit of a different view," said the priest, "in that we believe life starts at the moment of conception." "Well," said the rabbi, "it is our belief that life starts when the kids move out and graduate from med school."

    Daniel 8 - 12 Reexamined

We will not get Daniel right until we get the exegetical applications of Daniel. We like to ask "What does it mean" but we are going to get all different types of answers, both good, bad and shades in between until we ask the question "What DID it mean" All Biblical texts have an immediate or not all that too far into the future application. When we see what COULD have happened then we can make a better application as to how it will happen, at least when it is time for us to know we will recognize it. At AUC every Bible class (not necessary every religion class but every Bible class) required the reading of the article from the Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary "The Role of Israel in Old Testament Prophecy" with a paper on that article. Of course this meant that the religion and theology students had to read it about twice a year, and most other students would have to read it a few times. It would be wise for us to have Sabbath dedicated to this topic at least once a year. That fantastic article gives an over view or a macrovision; but as we study we can and need to develop a microvision of this chapter to the section of the Bible we are studying. A big problem that we have with Daniel is that Satan points us to different times so that we end up not reading it in it's historical context. The two most popular views are that Daniel 1-12 was written directly by Daniel during the Babylon captivity, and that as he sat by the rivers of the waters of Babylon the only thing on his mind was that the pope was coming, or for others that Antiochus Epiphanes was coming. The other view is that Daniel was written during the Antiochus Epiphanes event. I'm starting to get tired but Deuteronomy 4 predicted the exile being the end of the world. Daniel 1-7 s based on the idea that the Lord would have set up the kingdom not too long after the exile... Im tired so have to come back

    Questions and Answers (13:14)

Lou: Thinking further about the prodigal son story, is it necessary to repent and to confess one’s sins before one is forgiven? Graham: In the story, the boy had hardly begun to speak when the father interrupted and said, “I forgave you long ago.” An even more stunning illustration is Jesus forgiving on the cross. 15. This goes along with what I heard once, "We will have the capacity to sin (in heaven), but we won't want to." Just like the angels in heaven now, they still have the power of choice. But when they see what our world is like now, there is no way they would be tempted to follow Satan.

  16. The Bible says we will be priests and kings in the Kingdom; not mindless automatons. "And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen." (Rev. 1:6) "And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth." (Rev. 5:10) Also note that it says we will rule on earth; not in some gigantic spaceship.

    The Investigative Judgment

hch, I have noticed two blatant oversights in your posts the past few days - one concerning the 10 virgins with 5 being awake and 5 being asleep. As was pointed out, the Bible speaks of all the virgins being awake - 5 having extra oil and 5 not having enough. Also the one above about 6,000 vs 7,000 years. If you make mistakes on such "pablum", how are we supposed to trust the credibility of the "meatier" things you post about eschatology?

    Daniel 8 - 12 Reexamined

I post on a number of topics that I consider to be of current interest and discussion in the SDA church today. My posting does not indicate whether or not I agree with the position of what I have posted. Certainly in some cases I do agree. But in others I disagree, in part if not totally.

    Daniel 8 - 12 Reexamined

I have been wondering about all this push to prove Islam is the bad guy of Revelation. I don't buy it. Islam and other religions of the world, IMHO, could disappear overnight in the final events of the world. Babylon as the false religion of Daniel and Revelation will be there until the end. There is another principle in action in many of these strange interpretations of the Bible that I hope to get into soon. People have largely stopped talking about the impersonation of Jesus by the AntiChrist and the relationship to the Roman church. When the spectacle of the angel of light shows up in person, I suspect that all religions will quickly fall into place behind Rome and there will be no more Islam, Bhuddism, Hinduism, and so on. While Jesus will be seen by every eye at his coming, the AntiChrist will virtually be seen by nearly every eye via satellite feeds and HD big screen TVs all over the world, if everyone hasn't migrated to 4K by then. The whole world watching in unison can happen that fast. I recall flipping channels one night on my TV between shows and happened to land on a 24hr news show and to my amazement I was watching the Fukishima tsunami in real live progress. Nearly the entire world can be tuned into the same event at the same time. I remember watching the aftermath of the Kennedy assassination (back in the days of black & white TVs where one of the kids in the family was the remote!) and was stunned to see Oswald get shot in live action. But I digress!
