Who warned you to flee ...
phkrause and one other reacted to JoeMo for a topic
Amen! Well said! I myself have posted my opinions on plausible end-time scenarios; and hopefully I have made it clear that they are just my thoughts/opinions rather than a "thus sayeth the Lord". I really get frustrated when I see how one particular poster expresses things down to the smallest detail with great certainty, even though he has been consistently wrong on this forum as far as I remember. That being said, I do believe we are in the time of the end. I have no idea when it will happen, but most of us will likely be around when it does unless we die an untimely death. I agree. The gospels say the deceptions will be so believable as to deceive the very elect - if it were possible. With the prophesied apparent defeat of JudeoChristianity, I believe one of the main deceptions will be that the God of the Bible ain't as powerful and loving as the Bible says He is. Many people already believe that. The love of many [believers towards God - my insert] will wax cold.2 points -

I have read thru much of a number of threads on endtime prophecies here at Adventistan and elsewhere and it never ceases to amaze me of some of what I read. It seems that people have literary shoehorns to squeeze events and people into prophecy which really does not belong. One of the wildest ones I have read is a recent attempt to put Monica Lewinsky into Bible prophecy! Who other than Jesus and Cyrus were prophesied in the Bible? At the First Advent of Jesus, the religious people were seriously studying their Scriptures to have an idea when the Messiah would come. And He was walking among them! They had little clue. I tend to believe there there will be errors of understanding which will be even more egregious before the Second Advent. One person I know frequently uses the illustration of the devil and he will say the devil will dance you all around the cross and you will never see Jesus. Given that probably few on this earth understand Bible prophecy as well as Satan, I suspect he will dance people all thru prophecy and you will will never see the meanings behind it. Like Paul said in Timothy, "Ever learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth." I see many trying to render an interpretation of prophecy and who also clearly exchange Bible doctrines for the teachings of men. This situation brings to mind John the Baptist when he said to the religious leaders of the day, "Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?"1 point -

Did God Die on the Cross? Part 1
JoeMo reacted to Gustave for a topic
Jesus was One Person with TWO Natures (Divine & Human) these two natures were NOT mixed or blended but united into the One Person, Jesus Christ. When Jesus died God experienced Death. Now, to be absolutely clear Jesus did NOT experience what the Jehovah's Witnesses call soul sleeping. If we accept the Doctrine of the Trinity we accept that "GOD" became man without ceasing to be God. We accept that God incarnated into our flesh and was in all ways like us EXCEPT pertaining to sin. We accept that Jesus died on the Cross AND rose again from the dead on the 3rd day. Jesus was explicit that HE would raise Himself up from the dead. John 2, 19: "Destroy this temple, and in three days, I will raise it up". We also read in the Scriptures that THE FATHER raised Jesus from the dead We also read in the Scriptures that THE HOLY SPIRIT raised Jesus from the dead. This is why Scripture says that "GOD" (which is Father, Son & Holy Spirit) Raised Jesus from the dead.1 point -
Did God Die on the Cross? Part 1

I believe.... Jesus was enduring fully his humanity, including experiencing the second death. As a divine human agent and in subjection to his humanity, as in he hungered, he became exhausted, he also in his humanity felt complete separation from God in his humanity. He did not merely die the death of sleep, his humanity fully experienced the second death for every child of Adam, so he could bring to them the power of his death as a sinner, and also bring to each of us the power of His resurrection to live as a new creature, a new mind and a new life. He did this by faith and by decision. Just as we die with him to sin by faith and by choice, and then live by the power of the resurrection. When his humanity died the death of hell, his divinity passed through that experience fully as he was joined eternally to humanity, by His choice. He took on himself our guilt and infirmities, and failings and everything, he did not walk away from the suffering of complete separation from His Father. And this was in being innocent and pure and Holy. Hid divinity did not die but it fully experienced his humanity dying the death of the sinner. When he gives that experience to the lost at the end of time for all sinners, the second resurrection, he will know exactly what they are experiencing from his experience. His divinity could not die, our guilt and death was laid on his humanity and His divinity passed through all of the experience of the guilty completely because he chose to become joined to humanity and all of what that would mean forever. this was part of the cost of becoming the second adam, and becoming the head of the human race, redeeming us. He drank the cup, and was the first being in the universe to die from Sin, hence satan and all his angels witnessed their death for the first time and witnessed fully their end. This must have been horrifying. Jesus laid aside his divine prerogatives and experienced fully the limitations of humanity and the life of living by faith and not by sight. but after He was resurrected, and his humanity fully resurrected from the dead, because his humanity was innocent and the grave could not hold it, then he took back divine prerogatives except his shape became permanent, and he gave up omniscience. Only in eternity will we begin to grasp all of the price his divinity paid to save us. But when he returned to heaven he received the Glory He had with his Father before he came to earth as a man. God is so kind and merciful he even demonstrated for those who would die, just what was eternal death was before they experience it. Jesus was the source of the beginning for all creation, and the source and beginning of all redemption, all recreation. He did not leave his fallen creation without hope. Our passage to life is dying with Christ and rising in new life in the power of His resurrection alone.1 point -

Yes, but it was the first death - or "sleep" as Jesus called it when Lazarus died. Neither Jesus (nor any other being) has yet experienced the second death (unending oblivion - or "uncreation").1 point -

I was primarily talking about assigning dates to imagined prophesied events in Revelation and not to the Second Coming. Such dates as I was referring to would be like Iran is going to attack US warships on a certain date or charts drawn up that try to establish a proof that Revelation predicted 9/11 or any one of many other things said to be predicted by Revelation. There were so many errors in what you wrote that I do not have time to go thru them one by one. One that stood out was the assertion that the 144,000 would reap the harvest of souls. Unfortunately for a couple of reasons, this is clearly wrong. Jesus Himself defined just who the reapers were to be and they are angels. The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. Matthew 13:39 Paul added to this when he wrote, "16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words." 1 Thessalonians 4 The ones who remain would largely be those who were of the 144,000. But note that they would be LAST to leave after the resurrected are caught up into the heavens and those who remain then join them. No reaping there. (There is a contingent of people who died under the three angels message who will also be resurrected early and will be alive to see the coming of the Lord.) I did leave out the vol number on the quotes posted. Will have to be more careful!1 point -

5 Shocking Things You Didn't Know About Elvis Presley On August 16, 1977, Elvis Presley died of a heart attack. Elvis Presley, just 42 years old, was found unconscious on the bathroom floor of his Memphis mansion, Graceland. Here are five shocking facts you probably didn't know about Elvis Presley... Fifteen of the Songs Elvis Recorded Contained the Word “Blue” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Blue Hawaii” and “Blue Christmas” are probably the best well-known of Elvis’s blue songs, but there were 12 others, and no one seems to know why he was attracted to songs that contained this word. Other songs that Elvis recorded containing the word “blue” are “Milkcow Blues Boogie,” “G.I. Blues” and “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain.” One interesting thing about the King of Rock and Roll is that he never wrote any of the songs he recorded. Elvis Never Saw Priscilla Without Makeup In an interview with Priscilla Presley, she stated that her husband never saw her without makeup because mystique was important to him. She said he only wanted to see her made up and dressed. Reportedly, Presley went so far as to control what clothing his wife wore and would shop with her, and she wore at least a little makeup all the time. Presley Was a Germophobe The King of Rock and Roll, according to his wife, was a germaphobe and went out of his way to ensure he was safe from germs wherever he went. When he dined at the homes of other people, he went so far as to bring along his own silverware. In addition, when handed a drink, he would turn it around and drink from a cup next to the handle because he thought no one else ever did that. He Once Made a Midnight Run for Sandwiches Presley was well-known for his love of peanut butter and traveled on his jet one day in 1976 all the way from Graceland to Denver for a special sandwich sold by a local restaurant there. The sandwich consisted of a loaf of bread that was hollowed out and packed with a whole jar of peanut butter, the entire contents of a jelly jar and a package of bacon. This giant sandwich cost $50. Presley Underwent Several Plastic Surgeries Although it isn’t unusual for celebrities to have plastic surgery, Presley really had little done over the years. In 1956, he had his nose somewhat minimized by Hollywood plastic surgeon Dr. Maury Parks. In addition, he had a nose job while he was a soldier in the U.S. Army and a slight amount of work during the 1960s, according to Joe Esposito, who was the star’s friend and road manager.1 point -

The article presents a conundrum. Yes - God is immortal and cannot die. Yet, Jesus is only one member of the Godhead; so when Jesus died, God the Father was still out there. Secondly, Jesus Himself said He could lay down His life and take it back up again. Looks like He did just that. Thirdly, Jesus died the first death; from which the saved are resurrected. Jesus was the first fruits of that resurrection. If the author is talking about Jesus dying the second death - which is total and unending oblivion by definition - then I agree, God did not die on the cross.1 point -

Who warned you to flee ...

Another issue that concerns me regarding interpreting prophecy is time setting. While we have had warnings regarding setting times for the Second coming, I tend to believe that all prophecies with a time component have been fulfilled and there are none to be watched for in a timing sense. I found this section from Testimonies, p 307-308: Many who have called themselves Adventists have been time setters. Time after time has been set for Christ to come, but repeated failures have been the result. The definite time of our Lord's coming is declared to be beyond the ken of mortals. ... Because the times repeatedly set have passed, the world is in a more decided state of unbelief than before in regard to the near advent of Christ. They look upon the failures of the time setters with disgust; and because men have been so deceived, they turn from the truth substantiated by the word of God that the end of all things is at hand . Those who so presumptuously preach definite time, in so doing gratify the adversary of souls; for they are advancing infidelity rather than Christianity. They produce Scripture and by false interpretation show a chain of argument which apparently proves their position. But their failures show that they are false prophets, that they do not rightly interpret the language of inspiration. The word of God is truth and verity, but men have perverted its meaning. These errors have brought the truth of God for these last days into disrepute. ... Those who think they must preach definite time in order to make an impression upon the people do not work from the right standpoint. The feelings of the people may be stirred and their fears aroused, but they do not move from principle. An excitement is created; but when the time passes, as it has done repeatedly, those who moved out upon time fall back into coldness, darkness, and sin, and it is almost impossible to arouse their consciences without some great excitement. I would be careful of predicting a time for anything going into the future. Of course, I tend to see understanding prophecy more of a map to where we have been rather than where we are going.1 point -
