Did God Die on the Cross? Part 1

In Matthew 28:20 Jesus says, "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (NIV) "I am with you", not another different third being. The Emperor Constantine commissioned and paid for a copying and compilation of the Scriptures known today as the “New Testament”. The resulting Greek text is known as the “Byzantine”. New scholarly work by those familiar with the ancient manuscripts, has revealed no Greek manuscript (or fragment) older than the time of Constantine, which contains the text of Matthew 28:19. One Aramaic manuscript survives. In that manuscript, Matthew 28:19 reads, “baptizing them in my name.” In other words, Christ commanded the disciples to baptize in HIS name. And many other passages confirm the disciples did just that. Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’” Acts 8:16 “For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.” Acts 19:5 “When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.” Romans 6:3 “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?” Galatians 3:27 “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 1 Corinthians 6:11 “But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” Eusebius of Caesarea wrote during the 4th century. He was a “friend” of Constantine. In his work “Ecclesiastical History, Book III, Cpt 5, Section 2", he quotes Matthew 28:19 as “make disciples of all the nations in my name”. Eusebius quotes the passage in the same way in “Oration in Praise of Emperor Constantine, Cpt 16, Sect. 8". He quotes the passage in the same way some 18 times. Finally, near the end of his life, he quotes the passage just once, as “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost”. He may have been influenced by his loyalty to the Emperor, or by fear of the Emperor. We just do not know. It is also possible, that someone altered that one quotation.

    Going Grey

One day little Rivkah Stern was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother has several strands of white hair sticking out. She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, "Mommy, why are some of your hairs white?" Her mother replied, "Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white." Little Rivkah thought about this revelation for a while and then said, "Mommy, what in the world did you do to Bubbie to make ALL of her hairs are white!?"

    Security Breach

There was an unexpected knock at Rachel Rubin’s front door, and like she always did she first opened the peephole and asked, "Who's there?" "Amazon delivery, ma'am. I have a package that needs a signature." "Where's the package?" Rachel asked suspiciously. The deliveryman held it up. "Could I see some ID?" Rachel said, still not convinced. "Lady," he replied wearily, "if I wanted to break into your house, I'd probably just use these." And he pulled out the keys Rachel had left in the door.

    Rules of Parenting

Rabbi Felder, trying to teach the children about the proper behavior in shul, was trying to elicit from the youngsters rules that their parents might give before taking them to a nice restaurant. "Don't play with your food," one second grader cited. "Don't be loud," said another, and so on. "And what rule do your parents give you before you go out to eat?" Rabbi Felder asked little Moishie Rothman. Without batting an eye, Moishie replied, "Order something cheap!"

5 Things You Didn't Know about Old Ironsides_2 On August 19, 1812, Old Ironsides, the nickname for the USS Constitution, earned its name during the War of 1812. Here are 5 things you didn’t know about this famous warship now known as America’s Ship of State... It Is the Navy’s Oldest Warship The USS Constitution was the first of six frigates built for the U.S. Navy and armed with 44 guns. Captain Samuel Nicholson took her to the Caribbean on her first voyage to participate in a quasi-war with France, where the captain and crew captured the Niger, a French ship, off the coast of Charleston. During the next two years, the ship patrolled the West Indies. In 1801, she returned to her homeport of Boston. The Nickname Wasn’t Because the Ship Was Made of Iron “Old Ironsides” didn’t get its name because it was constructed of iron. It was during the War of 1812 that it received the name because it was so well-built with its triple layer of oak and dense pine that cannonballs shot at it bounced off. The battle in question occurred after the commander of the ship, Captain Isaac Hull, ordered an attack on a British frigate, the Guerriere, which sustained heavy damage. Paul Revere Contributed to the Construction of the Ship Paul Revere, the man famous for his midnight ride to warn the colonists that the British were coming, was an engraver and silversmith. He made the fastenings and copper bolts used in the Constitution. This helped make the ship faster and stronger than other comparable warships during this period. The Launch of the Ship Was Delayed for an Unusual Reason The ship was built in Boston, Massachusetts, at the Edmund Hartt shipyard and was originally scheduled for launch September 20, 1797. A crowd gathered to watch, but the frigate only went down the launching deck about 27 feet before getting stuck. It took a month for builders to reconstruct the ground ways to finally launch the Constitution on October 21 into Boston Harbor. Old Ironsides Never Lost a Battle The USS Constitution won 42 battles during her service with the U.S. Navy. During the War of 1812, she defeated five warships commanded by the British, consisting of the HMS Guerriere, Cyane, Java, Levant and Pictou, as well as a number of merchant ships. Following the war, she was sailed to the Mediterranean to capture slave ships off the African coast.

Did God Die on the Cross? Part 1

... and yet, in reading the Book of Acts, the apostles never baptized any one in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In every instance, they baptized in the Name of Jesus. Some manuscript of Matthew even say "Baptizing them in My Name.

Rachel: Yes, I have begun several discussions on the Trinity. I have done so because I believe it to be an important topic. I have not confined the present discussions on the Trinity to the reserved section of this forum, as was once done, because I do not believe that the present discussions need to be so confined. You, as well as the others who participate in this discussion are welcome to continue to do so.

Did God Die on the Cross? Part 1

Good point Joe. But didn't Satan hear Jesus say that He would be "risen" ? Satan had already seen several people risen from death. Why would he not believe Jesus, when He predicted His own resurrection?

Who warned you to flee ...

Things may have been slow back in those days but not so slow that decades pass. More than ten years passed from organization until the first testimony of vol 4 was released. Date setting is still something that continues in some circles even today. Not sure when the last Adventist date setting occured, but it was important enough for EGW to write about it in the 1870s.
