You Can’t Take it With You

Heschy Feldman worked all of his life and had saved his money and was a real miser. He loved money more than just about anything. Just before he died, Heschy said to his wife Hindy, "Now listen. When I die, I want you to take all my money and put it in the casket with me. Because I want to take my money to the afterlife with me." And so he got Hindy to promise him with all of her heart that when he died, she would put all of the money in the casket with him. Well one day Heschy died. He was stretched out in the casket, Hindy was sitting there in black, and her friend was sitting next to her. When they finished the ceremony, just before the pall bearers got ready to take the casket away, Hindy said, "Wait just a minute!" She had a box with her, she opened up the casket and put it inside. Then they took the casket away. So Hindy’s friend said, "Bubbaleh, I know you weren't fool enough to put all that money in there with that man." Hindy said, "Listen, I'm an honest person, I can't lie. I promised him that I was going to put that money in that casket with him." "You mean to tell me you put that money in the casket with Heschy?" "I sure did," said Hindy. "I wrote him a check."1 point -
Getting Into Heaven

Mrs. Goldstein was trying to teach her first grade Hebrew school students about heaven. "If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale, and gave all my money to the shul, would I get into heaven?" she asked. "NO!" all the children answered. "If I cleaned the shul every day, mowed the yard, and kept everything neat and tidy, would I get into heaven?" Again the answer was, "NO!" "Well," Mrs. Goldstein continued, "then how can I get to heaven?" Little Moishie Rosenbaum shouted, "You have to be dead!"1 point -
Morty’s Driver’s License

John Livingstone was sitting on his lawn sun tanning and reading, when he was startled by a fairly late model car crashing through a hedge and onto his lawn. Out came an elderly Jew named Morty Nussbaum and John helped him sit down. "My goodness," John exclaimed. "You are quite old to be driving!" "Yes," Morty replied. "I am old enough that I don't need a license anymore. The last time I went to my doctor he examined me and asked if I had a driving license. I told him yes and handed it to him." "He took scissors out of a drawer, cut the license into pieces and threw them in the wastebasket. 'You won't be needing this anymore,' he said." "So I thanked him and left."1 point -

Personally, I don't believe Paul wrote the Letter to the Hebrews. He always identified himself as the author of his other epistles. He always opened with greetings from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. This greeting is missing from the Letter to the Hebrews. The style of writing is not like his other epistles (according to scholars who can recognize such things). The identity of the author has been debated for centuries.1 point -

I would respectfully disagree with this. Sometimes, very bad things can be changed, if someone speaks up. What we should be really worried about is that almost no one is doing that. I think that its precisely because of the erosian of democracy, that we can say this is not true; for when a government, says they don't care what the people think, they are going to just impose something on us; they actually couldn't care less if anyone "damns" them, one way or the other. And thats something always worth speaking about. IMO1 point -

Obviously its not!! This I believe will happen in all countries sooner or later, probably sooner than later. Here in the USA we have church and state pretty much as one, if not totally right now it will be very shortly I believe. With the evangelicals now dictating every move or at least it seems that way, it wont be long until they say its time time for many changes, and also with the Pope calling on all to be more vigilant about many things, my feelings are that the evangelicals will be soon reaching out to him, lots of the leaders have already been doing that right now. I say thank God, lets get the end of time moving!!1 point -

These appeals to "democracy" are meaningless, since it's a case of "damned if you do and damned if you don't". If a government follows the wishes of the people, it's accused of governing by opinion poll. If they make a hard decision against the opinion polls, they are accused of being undemocratic. Occasionally a government has to do what's "right" irrespective of opinion polls. Sometimes what a government thinks is "right" turns out to be quite wrong. Sometimes it's just a question of differing points of view.1 point -

What Does God's Word Reveal About God?

this is a mis-interpretation of the "threat" here. I did not say what I wanted the text to say. It has nothing to do with what "I want" it to say. I made a simple observation that the claim using Psalms 33:6 simply does not say what the author of said book wants it to say. Are you able to show why he was correct in using that particular text to "prove" God created something out of nothing? I dont think it can be denied that Psalms 33:6 just doesnt say that at all. I did provide other relative texts to show the context, and would now add the caveate that Psalms 33:6 is a pretext, rather than a proof text, when used like this to say something that it doesn't say. Its just not there is all I am saying. Why is it so important for you to believe the something from nothing deal? Well; I guess you have a vivid imagination; but my point was to just get people thinking about how we use the scriptures to say things in doesn't; and even more than this; I was looking for ideas on just what does the Bible tell us about God? It looks to me like there are things we are just "imagining." Its eternal life to know God, and whom He has sent; (John 17:3) and so in my mind, this would include the ways that we use scripture to "prove" things that we can "imagine" but are not in fact there. Does Psalms 33:6 tell us that God created "something out of nothing" or does it tell us something else?1 point -
