6 Shocking Facts You Didn't Know About Steve Jobs On February 24, 1955, Steve Jobs was born in the San Francisco Bay Area. He would go on to become the co-founder, chief executive and chairman of Apple Computer. Here are six shocking facts you didn't know about Steve Jobs... Jobs Dropped Out of College Steve Jobs was a college dropout and attended Reeds College for just 18 months. The course that interested him the most at Reed was calligraphy. In the class, he studied typefaces and put his knowledge of typography to work when the first Macintosh computer was designed. Jobs said: “I learned about serif and sans serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It’s this appreciation for aesthetics which ultimately set Apple apart in the tech world. Jobs had no idea, at the time, how much his knowledge in calligraphy would influence the typography and font of Apple products. He Was Offered an Internship at Hewlett-Packard in 8th Grade The HP website tells the story like this: "When he was in eighth grade, Steve Jobs decided to build a frequency counter for a school project and needed parts. Someone suggested that he call Bill Hewlett. Finding a William Hewlett in the telephone book, the 12-year-old Jobs called and asked, "Is this the Bill Hewlett of Hewlett-Packard?" "Yes," said Bill. Jobs made his request. Bill spent some time talking to him about his project. Several days later, Jobs went to HP and picked up a bag full of parts that Bill had put together for him. Subsequently, Jobs landed a summer job at HP." Jobs Worked at Atari Before Starting Apple Back in the early 1970s, Jobs landed a computer job with Atari, the video game company. He was a technician, and a highly valued one at that, although he had a reputation for being obnoxious. Jobs and Steve Wozniak, also later an Apple leader, designed the game Breakout for Atari in 1976. Reports are that people started complaining about the guy who never showered and walked around barefoot, and Atari had to move Jobs to the night shift because of his hygiene. He Has Over 300 Patents to His Name We all know he invented the iPhone, iPad and MacBook, but there are way more patents associated with his name. In fact, there are over 300! He appears as the lead inventor for over 30 products. Steve wasn’t just the inventor of desktop computers, iPods, laptops, keyboards and mice, he also invented packaging, power adapters, display devices and even the glass staircase inside of some Apple retail stores. He Was Fired From Apple Did you know that in 1985 Steve Jobs was fired from Apple—the company he helped to create. There was a disagreement between Jobs and Apple’s then-CEO, John Sculley. Jobs wanted to drop the price of the Macintosh and focus more of the advertising on it, instead of the Apple II. At the time, Mac sales were not doing well, but Sculley blamed it on the software, not the price. Apple’s Board of Directors sided with Sculley and Steve was let go from the company. Even though he fell out of his own company, he took it as a blessing in disguise and later in 1997 joined back as the CEO. He later said that the feeling was very liberating and it was the most creative period of his life. He Initially Opposed Apps It may come as a surprise, that Steve Jobs initially opposed the idea of having third-party apps on the iPhone. A member of Apple’s board of directors had to call him about six times to try to convince him to even consider the idea. He was against it because he “felt his team did not have the bandwidth to figure out all the complexities involved in policing third-party app developers.” Thankfully, he eventually agreed to it.1 point -

Im finding that your posts are wandering into quite a few different ideas/topics, and this makes it really hard to discuss and get somewhere. Its hard to know exactly what you want to discuss. This fundamental belief, is what I thought was under discussion?? Below, I have listed the different ideas contained therein; perhaps this will help to narrow the focus to what you are interested in discussing? 1/ All humanity is now involved in a great controversy between Christ and Satan regarding the character of God, His law, and His sovereignty over the universe. 2/ This conflict originated in heaven when a created being, endowed with freedom of choice, in self-exaltation became Satan, God's adversary, and led into rebellion a portion of the angels 3/ He introduced the spirit of rebellion into this world when he led Adam and Eve into sin. 4/ This human sin resulted in the distortion of the image of God in humanity, the disordering of the created world, and its eventual devastation at the time of the worldwide flood. 5/ Observed by the whole creation, this world became the arena of the universal conflict, out of which the God of love will ultimately be vindicated. 6/ To assist His people in this controversy, Christ sends the Holy Spirit and the loyal angels to guide, protect, and sustain them in the way of salvation. -The Great Controversy, Fundamental Belief 8 Are there any of these you are more interested in?1 point -

OK, I'll say this as nicely as I can here my friend. IMO, your statements in this topic are essentially comparing apples with oranges, and then wondering why they dont all "taste" the same. While you have touched on quite a few items within this topic, you have missed a number of essential points about "the great controversy." I would suggest that your posts, for this topic, are reflecting confusion. One thing I could mention regarding my point on that is that I am trying to figure out, "does he want to discuss EGW or the article, or the "great controversy" teaching?" It seems you are mixing in at least three different things here. This is an example. It is not an accurate statement of the official belief. Of course, its not "wrong" to want to examine the items you state there, which we can do. It would not be fair to say that this is what EGW teaches. IMO Gregory completely mistates the subject when he says things like That is just simply not true at all. Id be happy to discuss the topic anytime without EGW. She did not form that doctrine for the church, although, as Gregory stated, she did comment a lot about it. As always, when people want to stray away from the actual facts, it becomes relatively easy to state it in the preferred angles and project things about it that just are not there. This is the official doctrine. No EGW needed (but we can of course discuss her input). As we see, there is not a single word from her writings in this official belief, nor is her name even mentioned. This is a very important point because I used that very point in evangelism I was involved in. Many people are uncomfortable with studying anything but the Bible for source information, so I would often not discuss EGW at all for this subject. people appreciate the fact that God has got everything under control, and that God is just; which is the core of the official GC teaching. The writer of the article made the following statement: This reflects a very mixed up belief about the Bible itself. And a gross misunderstanding of the purpose of Bible prophecy. The point of "prophecy" is not to predict. While it has just a few predictions, it is never THE focus of most prophecy. When there is a "prediction" the Bible still makes Jesus the focal point of said "prophecy." I believe this is what the Adventist teaching on the GC does teach.1 point -

I would need to hear more on what you mean here by "double-down" before I could comment intelligently on that. But as far as "defending" the great controversy teaching," there's no real need to "defend" the idea at all. Its everywhere in scripture, and certainly is not unique to Adventists. I have noticed that Popes don't talk much about it. Additionally, I would suggest a clarification on what YOU mean by "great controversy teaching."1 point -

As a former employee of the virology department of USAMRIID (United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases) that has worked in both cold and "hot" suites, I will say that at the time of my service they had 5 mutant varieties of the plague on ice . They were cultivated and stockpiled to have on hand so that if the plague ever mutated along those lines there would be a stockpile available from which to produce a vaccine. The point of the comment is say that the plague did not mutate on its own while being cultivated there. The scientist facilitated the mutations preemptively.1 point -

5 Places Airplanes Can't Fly Over On February 22, 1935, it became illegal for planes to fly over the White House. While the sight of an airplane flying overhead is normal for most people, there are areas in the United States where planes can't fly. These no-fly zones cover places that range from historical to top secret. Here are 5 places that airplanes can't fly over... The White House You might think the White House barred planes from flying overhead for security reasons. But in this case, the no-fly zone was created on this day in 1935 because President Franklin D. Roosevelt couldn't sleep with the drone of engines and propellers overhead. The ban is still in place, although it hasn't kept all aircraft out. There have been a few incidents in which an aircraft breached the no-fly zone, including one in which a small plane crashed two stories below President Clinton’s bedroom. In 1974, an Army private stole a helicopter from Fort Meade and hovered above the White House for six minutes and landed on the South Lawn. Area 51 If you were hoping to fly an aircraft over the infamous Area 51 to see what you could spot, you'd be in for a nasty surprise. The area around it is restricted to most, but not all, air travel. The only commuter flights allowed to fly to Area 51 must originate from a specific terminal at a specific airport (Las Vegas’s McCarran International Airport). The planes themselves must use the call sign “Janet” to get clearance to enter the airspace. While these restrictions may add to the forbidden appeal of sneaking around Area 51, it's a legitimate military zone that handles top-secret information. It's not an area you'd want to mess around in. Disneyland and Disney World Both Disney properties in the United States have no-fly zones that extend in a three-mile radius around each, up to 3,000 feet above the park. They were included in a massive air-safety-focused act of Congress, Operation Liberty Shield, enacted in 2003. While the zones prevent plane noise from interrupting people's days at the park, critics say the zones do nothing to prevent terrorism and only prevent banner-towing planes from flying over the park. Some conservative groups have treated the zones as free-speech issues because they can't fly protest banners during some of the parks' events. A Number of Presidential Properties What do Mount Vernon, Kennebunkport, and Camp David have in common? They're all presidential-related properties that have no-fly zones. Mount Vernon was George Washington's home, which has a no-fly zone up to 1,500 feet above mean sea level; Kennebunkport is home to the Bush family compound at Walker's Point, which has a no-fly zone up to 1,000 feet above mean sea level; and Camp David is the Maryland retreat where many presidents have gone to relax and to hold historical meetings and conferences. It has a no-fly zone of up to 5,000 feet above mean sea level. Pantex Nuclear Assembly Plant This spot is located about 17 miles northeast of Amarillo, Texas, and it is exactly what it sounds like—it’s a site for the production of nuclear weapons. Pantex also dismantles excess nukes and keeps tabs on existing ones. It’s one of several locations run by the National Nuclear Security Administration—but it’s actually the only one with a no-fly zone. As you might expect, the site is also closed to the public.1 point -

Greetings Greg, A few comments on why I do not accept the article. Daniel 8: I hold a different view as to the start and finish of the 2300 years. I believe that it starts in BC333-334 and terminates in AD 1967. The little horn depicts the growth of the military aspect of Rome, when in BC133 Attalos III of Pergamon bequeathed his kingdom to the Romans and it became the Roman province of Asia in BC 129. Antiochus was not a little horn, but one of the four horns. The little horn power did stand up against “the prince of the host”, Jesus and removed the daily sacrifice in AD 70 Daniel 8:11-12. Jesus alludes to and quotes Daniel 8:11-14 in Matthew 24:15 and Luke 21:20-24 and applies this to the Romans in AD 70 and the ongoing treading down of Jerusalem for a period of time after this. Daniel 7: The fourth kingdom is Roman, and Daniel 7 is parallel with Daniel 2, the fourth kingdom of iron. The little horn is the Papacy. Both prophecies conclude with the return of Jesus and the establishment of the Kingdom of God upon the earth to replace the kingdoms of men. Daniel 7 ties in with the beast prophecies of Revelation, and these are Roman, not Greek. Daniel 9: I support the view that 70 weeks represent 490 years and speaks of the sufferings of the Messiah. Kind regards Trevor1 point -

Photodue: No disease, be it virus or bacteria is man made. Any living organism is created period by THE ALMIGHTY ONES. The Bible clearly states that pestilence and disease will come because of people sinful nature. I spoke about the Canaanites and that they knew about YAHWEH. However, they like Israel was given 430 years to get their acts together. Gen 15:16 The Chinese and all Asian people are trace back to Canaan. They are one of the most idol worshipping people. They also have a free sexual industry and they eat all types of unclean animals. It is sad but they are open to various diseases and pestilence due to their life style and the whole world today is becoming just like them. Finally, scientist causes more maglignent strings of these diseases and with the over use of antibiotics. Bacteria are everywhere and the body has them to prepare for death. Viruses are organism that need a host to grow to attack the body. Just to close man can create anything what he does it make it worst. Ex 15:26; Psa103:2-4; Mat 9:35; 24:7; Luke 21:11 Peace!1 point -
Report Sexual Abuse
phkrause reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
With thanks to Adventist today: Because of Project Safe Church, there is a website where anyone in the Lake Union (LU) can report sexual abuse by an LU employee or volunteer. That report will go to a trained care provider, who will help the victim develop a statement. That statement will be turned over to a trained sexual ethics committee that will gather more evidence and eventually adjudicate the case, passing their recommendations on to the conference administrators. In other words, because of this system, a sexual abuse allegation in the Lake Union has far less chance of being swept under the rug, forgotten, or mishandled. Perpetrators, be warned; saints, rejoice! “This is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes” (Psalm 118:23). I would like to ask that you 1) pray for Project Safe Church; 2) spread the word to your conference or union leaders that such a system exists; 3) share this email on your social media or forward it to your contacts; 4) donate to the cause as God leads through jenniferjill.org, earmarking it “Project Safe Church.” Source: Jennifer Jill Schwirzer Do you know someone who has been sexually abused by an employee, elected leader or volunteer of the Adventist Church in the Lake Union? Folks, several of you and me, have side-tracked the discussion here. This section was established as a special place where HCH could promote his views. In this section he has been given a greater freedom to promote them than he had elsewhere in this forum. At t he same time, people responding to him also have a greater freedom to do so than they would have elsewhere in this forum. I beleve that we ought to move this part of the discussion to another part of this forum. I plan to establish a thread, titled The Status of the NAD Today in the SDA Issues section. Here we can talk about TOP, music and such issues that have entered the discussion here. My expectation for that section includes: * Respectful treatment of others and their views. * Posts can include frank statements of belief. * We remain respectful of the SDA denomination and those who lead it. * We discuss from the standpoint as to where we individually are. * We do not become the highly critical website that some others are. * We do not become a thread that simply cites (references) other critical websites. * We have some responsibility for what we post, regardless of what others have posted. I am willing to see how this goes, and give it a try. As needed I will feel free to revise and add to what I have posted above.1 point -

the author of said article must have been too busy listing his credentials and name-dropping of "scholarly" references to say anything new or substantial. I find it hard to believe that anyone with his "education" could miss the fact that Christ is in every single chapter of scripture, and that Daniel is NOT about predictions; its about Jesus. This article didn't "challenge" me at all. Not even a little bit. All he has to do is be as "careful" as he tells others to be and his problems would be solved.1 point -

Sounds like so many other non-Adventist churches as they try to explain away the book of Daniel. If the "errors" were so far off base, perhaps they would have been corrected over a hundred fifty years ago. Of course, you have to really believe that EGW was actually receiving visions from God. I am aware that much understanding of Daniel did not come from visions. I tend to agree with one pastor who said three times in this earth's history God raised up a movement and his third movement was the Seventh-day Adventist church. The author of this article seems to want to kick out the legs of one of our most important prophetic beliefs. As one pastor said, "The Seventh-day Adventist faith claims one verse as our own." No one pays much attention to Daniel 8:14 And to deny the seventy week prophecy as being related to the ministry and death of Jesus?! Another prophecy that people may not believe is one that in the end times people would be deceived by seducing doctrines. So, I think I will stick with the historical (as laid out by the pioneers of the SDA church) Adventist approach to prophecy.1 point -
