Daniel Revisited
JoeMo and one other reacted to Kevin H for a topic
Actually the phrase is not "Evenings and mornings" but "Evenings-mornings". The term for the daily sacrifice is "morning and evening". I've read in more than one commentary that the author of Daniel suffered from dyslexia and meant to write "Morning and evening" but that by mistake switched them around and forgot to include the word "and" in between them. That is what is necessary for us to correct what he actually wrote so that it can be not what he wrote but what he meant to write for it to apply to the morning and evening sacrifice. The term "Evenings-mornings" is similar to the evening and morning of the creation week, indicating a connection to the daily cycle, but also in a focus on the cycles. The ancient near east had many cycles. A day in Egypt was either the 24 hour cycle of the sun or the annual flooding of the Nile (Yes, one of those day-year situations that Desmond Ford said does not exist.) Two fantastic books to study the cycles are "Before Philosophy" 1946 University of Chicago Press by Henri Frankfort and others. (Why our church does not reprint this book amazes me. So many of our arguments would end if our people would read this book.) Another is "The Myth of the Eternal Return" by Mircea Eliade. We find the Hebrew cycles in Leviticus 23 and here and there in Deuteronomy. Leviticus 23 tells us what a Hebrew week is: It is 6 days and the Sabbath, Six months and either the Day of Atonement or Passover, Six years and the Sabbatical year, and six Sabbatical years and the Jubilee. From this we see that the daily cycles are literal days, literal months, literal years, or literal Sabbatical years. Since Deuteronomy downplays the Jubilee and Daniel was a Deuteronomist we can not focus on the Sabbatical years. Thus to Daniel 2300 evenings-mornings can mean 2300 days, 2300 months or 2300 years. Daniel knew that which one it would be was based on the spreading of the gospel to fit the condition. If the Hebrews could be faithful over the next few years, the prophecy of Deuteronomy 4 would have been fulfilled and the exile end with a second great exodus lead by the Messiah. When this did not happen Daniel 9 connects it to the 70 weeks of years. Ezekiel applies it to the last 2300 days of the 70 weeks of years and tells what could have happened had Jesus been accepted. With his rejection we move on to the possibility of 2300 months or 2300 years. The 2300 year application brings us to 1844, which was the end of a Sabbatical year and the start of a Jubilee, and the first Sabbatical year and Jubilee since Edward Robinson did the first serious study of the Holy Land that brought us to the dawning of the age of exegesis, the rediscovery of the ancient world, an age where we could start to investigate the pages of scripture like never before. If we were to do the math we can probably find a time when something could have happened at the 2300 month mark, but it was the 2300 year application that was the last time this prophecy could cycle around and where things did happen. In Ezekiel (who was a priest and would take the Sabbatical years as an option) we find a prophecy for 2310 days, and they are the last 2310 days of the end of the great controversy for the burring the wicked after they are destroyed. If we remove the 10 days between the New Year and Day of Atonement, we have another 2300 day prophecy. Ezekiel places it in what would have happened had Jesus been accepted and they would have been the last 2300 days of the 70 week prophecy. Ezekiel's prophecy is a sister prophecy and fits with 2300 days, not 2300 morning and evening sacrifices. There is nothing to support the 1150 days or 2300 morning and evening sacrifices. Those who want to apply the book of Daniel to Antiochus still does not have the prophecy fit but it is closer to 1150 days than 2300 days. But they need a dyslexic Daniel who meant to write "morning and evening" but by mistake wrote "evenings - mornings" But "evenings-mornings fits the emphases that Daniel is thinking about the cycles, it fits with in the exegetical context of Deuteronomy 4 where the world could have ended with the exile, and the third year of Belshazzar covered the year that was exactly 1150 days from business as usual and exactly 2300 days from the year that has Medio-Persia laying seize to Babylon, Belshazzar's feast and the early days of the Medio-Persia rule, and it fits with the 2310 day sister prophecy in Ezekiel.2 points -
COVID-19 Today

I have a son who is employed in Silicon valley as an engineer. Due to the COVID-19 virus, the company for which he works has had to return its employees to the U.S. from China. He works at a site near where he lives that has 400+ people working at that site. The company has now decided to send those employees home and tells them to work from home. So, he called us yesterday and said he would attempt to work from our place, as he often does when he visits. He wanted to know if we could set him up in some additional space as he was going to bring some additional equipment with him that he would need to set up. When we asked him what he would be bringing, he informed us that he normally worked with six (6) desktop computers and two (2) laptop computers at his workspace and he would probably come with all of them! The computers are a mixture of Apple and PC types. I do not know if we have the bandwidth to handle it. But, we shall see.1 point -

5 Surprising Facts You Didn't Know About The Telephone On March 7, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell received a patent for his telephone, beating out competitors and initiating a massive change in how people would communicate. Here are 5 surprising facts about the telephone.. The Telephone Was the Result of Research to Expand the Use of the Telegraph. The telephone was basically a happy accident. At the time, telegraphs couldn't send speech -- they relied on Morse Code -- and they could send only one message at a time through the wires. In other words, if you hooked up several telegraphs to the same transmission wire, only one telegraph could send a message at a time. Bell wanted to change this so multiple messages could be transmitted along a wire at the same time. His thinking was that changing the frequency of the signals sent could enable several signals to fit along the same wire. It was through that work that Bell started looking at transmitting a human voice, rather than Morse Code. Western Union Passed on an Offer to Buy the Telephone For $100,000 In 1876, a cash-strapped Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the first successful telephone offered to sell his telephone patent to Western Union for $100,000. They declined. Bell Filed for a Patent Two Hours Before His Rival Bell's name is one you may have heard of all your life, but you should learn the names Gray and Meucci, too. Elisha Gray was one of Bell's contemporaries and competitors, and he was also working on a telephone-like device as a way to improve the telegraph. He and Bell submitted paperwork on the same day -- Bell, a patent application, and Gray, a patent caveat, which was supposed to suspend other patent applications for the same product. But Bell's application was received two hourse before Gray's, so Bell got his patent. Gray sued but eventually lost. Antonio Meucci's Telephone Proceeded Both Gray and Bell by 5 Years Italian inventor Antonio Meucci had filed his own patent caveat for a telephone device in December of 1871. But, Antonio Meucci did not renew his caveat after 1874 and Alexander Graham Bell was granted the patent for in March of 1876. Still, some scholars consider Meucci the real inventor of the telephone. Bell Created a Wireless Phone No, really, Bell created a version of a wireless phone that used light instead of wires. It was called the photophone and was patented in 1880. He believed it could be used by sailors at sea to communicate with harbors on land, but there wasn't enough associated technology to put the photophone to widespread use. The photophone itself actually worked — that means a wireless phone existed long before any of the cell phones that seemed so advanced in the 20th century.1 point -
