  1. I actually walked out of Christian concerts because they were incredibly loud... but, to be fair, I really don't like modern live pop music for that reason. There's the need to blast the roof off, and my ears can't survive it. That's actually coming from a guy who wrote electronic rock music.

  2. Great post, MT. I totally agree with your assessment of Jay-Z's rapping abilities. I was thinking the same thing as you stated when I was watching their performance - "They're married"; and I wasn't offended. My kids were watching it with me; but they are 20 and 22 years old; so I didn't find it inappropriate. I wonder - why are we more OK with letting our young people witness graphic violence (which is NOT part of a normal life); on TV; but uncomfortable with people expressing sexuality (which is a normal part of life)? I was impressed with Lorde's performance. For a 16 or 17 year old, she's got a great voice.

  3. Bonnie I would agree with you that it was cool that she was true to her beliefs and quietly left.... Except that she took it to social media. She had to let people know that she did it. Which to me screams passive aggressive publicity seeking. That may be cynical of me, but that's how it comes across imo. Others may have a different view on it, and that's fair enough. Regarding the performances...... So I watched the Beyonce and Jay-Z one last night. While I can understand that some people feel that it was a highly sexualized song and performance and be offended by that, I would offer another point of view. It was a performance by a married couple. A couple that has been together for a while, and who's highly sexualized performance was about being with each other - their legal, rings and wedding ceremony spouse. So in a way they are promoting marital values. I think the most offensive thing about it was that they let Jay-Z have a mic. May be a marketing genius and a music mogul, but he is really a horrible rapper.

  4. Quote: As noted, no performer should ever be able to say they don't know what is going on in their industry, at functions or otherwise. No surprises. Best option is....don't go or be a part of it!

  5. Even walking out or getting noticed that you left will get to the PR needed. An article was written about it...so...calculated or not, great pub! As noted, no performer should ever be able to say they don't know what is going on in their industry, at functions or otherwise. No surprises. Everything that takes place is calculated. It means money!! Christian or otherwise.

  6. That is true enough PK. But Katy Perry's performance was theater. But as close to any kind of real witchcraft or Satanism as a jack-o-lantern is.

  7. No, but those issue's make any points the article might be trying to make pretty hard to take seriously.

  8. There's always something... Although yesterday as I flipped through a slideshow of the performances on Reuters I checked out the various winning songs on Youtube. I must say that not one of them impressed me at all. I thought to myself, What is America coming to? in the way of musical direction Just MHO.
