I am interjecting a comment just in case there is a lack of understanding what has been a common SDA position. SDAs have often thought that the term Michael the archangel referred to Christ as God in heaven as being in charge of the created angels. It was not a statement that Christ was a created angel.1 point -

This isn't what Ellen White taught. Ellen taught that the Divine and human natures were "blended" (AKA mixed) and that Michael the archangel risked his future (and continued) existence on the outcome of the "conflict" subsequent to incarnating on the planet's surface.1 point -

This thread began as a discussion as to the authority of EGW. It has gone off in the direction of the Trinity. To get back to her authority: Yes, she had authority. We a re indebted to her for the guidance that she gave this Church (SDA) in manly ways. She gave much advice as to ministry and direction. We would not be what we are today if it had not been for her guidance. * She is not and was never intended to be the ultimate, absolute authority as to doctrine and belief. * The Bible, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit is the ultimate, absolute authority as to doctrine, not EGW. * In addition, it can not be said that every word she wrote waws given to her by God. Her writings clearly show that she was often indebted to the writings of other authors of her day.1 point -

Yes God can not sin. Yes, humanity can sin. Yes, Jesus was fully God. Yes, Jesus was fully human. Seventh-day Adventists have never agreed on what it meant for Jesus to be fully human. They have always disagreed as to what it meant for Jesus to be both God and human. .1 point -

The medieval castle dates to 1180, and once served as the residence of the Counts of Flanders. 🍺 Ward also points to a favorite bit of local lore: In 1949, students occupied the empty castle in protest of a new beer tax, staying overnight before the standoff ended peacefully the next morning.1 point -

Adventist view on the Nature of Christ
phkrause reacted to hobie for a topic
Christ had to do as we must do or there was no point in His coming. Here is more on this .. Christ's perfect humanity is the same that man may have through connection with Christ. As God, Christ could not be tempted any more than He was not tempted from His allegiance in heaven. But as Christ humbled Himself to the nature of man, He could be tempted. He had not taken on Him even the nature of the angels, but humanity, perfectly identical with our own nature, except without the taint of sin. A human body, a human mind, with all the peculiar properties, He was bone, brain, and muscle. A man of our flesh, He was compassed with the weakness of humanity. The circumstances of His life were of that character that He was exposed to all the inconveniences that belong to men, not in wealth, not in ease, but in poverty and want and humiliation. He breathed the very air man must breathe. He trod our earth as man. He had reason, conscience, memory, will, and affections of the human soul which was united with His divine nature. Our Lord was tempted as man is tempted. He was capable of yielding to temptations, as are human beings. His finite nature was pure and spotless, but the divine nature that led Him to say to Philip, "He that hath seen Me hath seen the Father" also, was not humanized; neither was humanity deified by the blending or union of the two natures; each retained its essential character and properties. But here we must not become in our ideas common and earthly, and in our perverted ideas we must not think that the liability of Christ to yield to Satan's temptations degraded His humanity and He possessed the same sinful, corrupt propensities as man. The divine nature, combined with the human, made Him capable of yielding to Satan's temptations. Here the test to Christ was far greater than that of Adam and Eve, for Christ took our nature, fallen but not corrupted, and would not be corrupted unless He received the words of Satan in the place of the words of God. To suppose He was not capable of yielding to temptation places Him where He cannot be a perfect example for man, and the force and the power of this part of Christ's humiliation, which is the most eventful, is no instruction or help to human beings. But the facts of this history are not fable, but a living, acting, experience. [To deny this] would rob Jesus of His greatest glory--allegiance to God--which enshrouded Him as a garment in this world on the field of battle with the relentless foe, and He is not reckoned with the transgressor. He descended in His humiliation to be tempted as man would be tempted, and His nature was that of man, capable of yielding to temptation. His very purity and holiness were assailed by a fallen foe, the very one that became corrupted and then was ejected from heaven. How deeply and keenly must Christ have felt this humiliation."1 point -
Covid -- Less we forget.
phkrause reacted to Hanseng for a topic
People should be free to avoid vaccines. The gov't should construct camps. Put all the antivaxxers in them, regardless of the reasons for their belief. Charge them a fee for every day they are kept there. Some countries in Asia did something similar during Covid. Even vaccinated people in "red" zones were corralled into quarantine camps Probably not widely publicized, some Asian countries were more or less a slaughterhouse during Covid. Basic medical supplies were unavailable. Neighboring countries sealed their borders. There were online videos available, possibly fake, of people dying in the streets. I've seen enough miraculous happenings through modern medicine to consider antivaxxers stupid, no matter how smart they are. People die from throat spray, peanut dust, bee stings. Dead people are brought back to life through code blue measures, recover from AIDS through antivirals. People in the midst of a heart attack can be relieved through interventional cardiology. Individual rights should end when freedom exposes other people to danger. There are already laws which empower public health officials to forcibly quarantine [lock 'em up] individuals with communicable disease. Years ago in Sacramento, there was a guy, possibly an illegal immigrant, who had multiple drug resistant TB. He was quarantined in his own home. One day a public health official happened by to discover numerous children playing with him. The guy was arrested and forced into a secure location where he could not start an epidemic of a devastating disease. You think people with Ebola are allowed to roam around freely? Time to remove the tin foil pyramid spinner cap, toss the crystals and either self isolate OR get vaccinated.1 point -
Why was 'Tartarus' used?
Asia Joe reacted to Hanseng for a topic
This word tartarus is used just 4 times in the entire Bible, including the Greek OT. One Hebrew equivalent, evinced by Proverbs 30:16 is Sheol. Get it? The Hebrew word sheol is used in place of tartarus in Proverbs 30:16; therefore, Sheol is a Greek equivalent of tartarus. Sheol is used more than 60 times in the OT. Sheol is usually translated as hades in the NT. Jesus has the keys to hades (Rev. 1:18). The Online Bible numerical equivalents of these words are these tartarus 5020: Sheol 07585 hades 86 Thayer's lexicon has this to say about hades: 1) name Hades or Pluto, the god of the lower regions 2) Orcus, the nether world, the realm of the dead 3) later use of this word: the grave, death, hell In Biblical Greek it is associated with Orcus, the infernal regions, a dark and dismal place in the very depths of the earth, the common receptacle of disembodied spirits. Usually Hades is just the abode of the wicked, Lu 16:23; Re 20:13,14; a very uncomfortable place. TDNT.1 point -

Ronald Lason Dies
phkrause reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
On August 3, 2026, Dr. Ronald Lawson PhD, died. He was a con traversal figure in Adventism, He was seldom welcomed and often dismissed Yet throughout it all he remained on the far distant edge of this Church. As a historian/sociologist he once traveled the world interviewing some 4,500 SDA members as to their understanding and relationship to Adventism. His research was published in the scholarly journals. The following Spectrum provides more information on his life https://spectrummagazine.org/news/ronald-lawson-trailblazing-gay-adventist-sociologist-scholar-and-advocate-dies-at-86/ It should be clearly stated that I differed with his understanding of certain Biblical issues. In those areas my understanding conforms to main-line Adventism. I also agree with an application of those beliefs that demonstrates grace rather than legalism. I once asked him to evaluate my understanding of certain aspects of SDAs living in Germany under Hitler, In his response he clearly informed me that my suggestion totally lacked historical evidence. With the announcement of his death, many have posted on the Internet their thoughts as to how he will spend eternity. I do not consider this to be either helpful or Christian. I ask that such not be posted here in Club Adventist. Sometimes Adventists point to scandals in other Christian groups an ignore that such has happened in Adventism. One such involving the highest levels of Adventism occurred while I was living in Denver. I am well aware of it. Dr. Lawson wrote a 43-page report of it which is available on the Internet, I consider it to be just, accurate and helpful. Those with probably a superficial knowledge of Dr, Lawson will probably remember him as a co-founder of SDA Kinship. The General Conference filed a lawsuit requesting that Kinship be banned from using the trademarked name Adventist The GC was represented by a well qualified legal team and expected an easy victory. The G/c team was matched by the pro bono team that defended Kinship, The following article informs as to that litigation. https://ronaldlawson.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/kinship-goes-to-trial.pdf The final decision of the Court was definitive:: The GC could not prevent the use by Kinship of the word Adventist./ It also opened that use by others in other ways1 point -

Need to see what it teaches and the real issue here. Here is a good summary..: Here’s the conundrum: to suggest Jesus, as the God-Man, is unable to sin seems to denigrate His true humanity. This position seems to make the incarnation a farce – a foregone conclusion. It implies Jesus never felt the true force of the temptations. This position is known as impeccability. but, to suggest Jesus could sin seems to denigrate His deity. This position is known as peccability. So, what to do? The solution seems to be a qualified form of peccability, as follows:12 Jesus was genuinely tempted to sin, not like us, but like the original Adam and Eve (morally neutral), so, it was theoretically possible for Him to sin, but He chose not to sin1 point -

Normally, in the Bible, Jesus, as well as the disciples, simply cast the demon out. If we find an exception to the norm, it is wise to ask "Why the exception?" instead of turning to the exception and see how we can make this the rule. If I recall correctly, there are two exceptions to the norm. The boy with the seizures and the one or two men where the pigs ran into the sea. Fundamentalists may not be happy with my comments here, but please take for your consideration. With the boy having the seizures; Jesus says that this kind does not come out except for fasting and prayer. While I am not an expert in language, from what I've read and heard in lectures from those who understand the language, the idea of fasting and prayer can be understood as say a doctor or scientist who is prayerfully studying and experimenting and so focused on their research that they often forget to eat and sleep. So could this boy simply have had a physical condition that gave seizures, and while Jesus could do the physical healing, that he was telling his disciples that this is not simply demons, but something that they really need to study to discover the cause and develop a cure? The second exception is the one or two men where the pigs ran into the sea. Ok, I confess that their breaking the chains is something that may indicate traditional demons. However, a couple of things to keep in mind, with another suggestion if you bear with me. This man/These men were pagans. He/They were gentiles. They lived in a Greek City State set up from the conquests of Greece to show people in the rest of the world how wonderful Greek life is to encourage the people living in the area to not only be Greek subjects by conquest, but to change their lives and embrace Greece life and thought in total. (The idea of a city set on a hill, but instead of a Christian faith, these cities were to draw everyone to Greece.) There were 10 of these cities just east of the Jordan in the hills. It would have been to one of these 10 cities that would have been the "far country" for the Prodigal Son went. This man/These men would have known little of the Jews who lived in small Jewish communities across the lake. So first of all, Jesus needed to work with the man/men, and their pagan/gentile/Greek background. This man/These men living in the Greek City State probably were raised from childhood in how special it was to be Greek and how they were to be examples for all the non-Greeks living around them of how wonderful Greek life and thought are. Yet, for some reason, this missionary mindset made them uncomfortable. Also, may I also wonder if he/they may have also suffered from what we call mental illness. Jesus did what he did to work with these people who were ignorant of the Bible and ignorant of Judaism. Even if they had traditional demons Jesus still needed to work with how this man/these men are. And if it is just the suffering in them suppose to be showing how wonderful Greek life is, and they just are uncomfortable with this idea, and/or mental illness; Jesus can heal the mind, but they might from time to time start thinking things that could lead back to problems. Seeing the pigs run into the sea and drown is always a reminder that if they start thinking the wrong way that they remember the pigs and they choose against the bad thought they were about to think. Jesus also needed to learn where these men were coming from, remembering they were getting views about the demonic not from the Bible and/or Judaism, but from a pagan background. Jesus could not make the same assumptions about the cause of this/these men's sufferings as he could in the Jewish communities. Jesus needed to do what was appropriate for their pagan/Greek background. And this personal care was important as this/these people born and raised to be missionaries of Greek life and thought, ended up becoming the first Christian missionaries to the gentiles.1 point -
